[Pietro looks tense, but he's dressed, at least. However, the uniform is unfamiliar. He's clearly still inside the ship.]

But can someone tell me why my powers aren't working?!

[His voice climbs a few octaves closer to panic at the end.]

Besides, the mutants seemed to have a handle on things. [SHIELD had been keeping them updated, too, just in case things went too far south.]

The Superhuman Registration Act. Basically anyone with powers is dangerous and they've gotta be on government lists and not have any secret identity even though these things are important.

Right. Yeah, your world sounds like something out of a comic book. And I'm guessing you mean 'other mutants'? Since I got the impression the Avengers were mutants.

[Hence why 'special treatment' compared to other mutants would apply.]

What? Oh, no. We're mostly plain ol' humans. I mean, Thor's some kind of... alien god or something. But most of us weren't born with superpowers.

Except me and my sister. I guess we're probably mutants. It was never particularly important.

Okay, that's ffffmessed up. And definitely not something he's ever promoted where I'm from. I'm pretty sure my sister would turn him inside out if he tried, and... well, the guy's a jerk, but not that big of a jerk.

I could see Fury doing that, though.

I was born with powers. [Was he trying to make himself seem cooler in front of a superhero? Well, obviously, who wouldn't? It was true, though.] Well, sort of, they didn't come out until I was a teenager, but...

[But as he understood it, that's now mutants worked, too.]

My world doesn't exactly have mutants, though.

Fury was helping Cap on the other side, actually. I can never keep track of what he's doing.

I just... I mean, Tony and I don't get along, but I don't see him doing that.

Yeah, Wanda and I were early bloomers, but we still didn't have powers until we were, like, eight or something. I think physical mutations are supposed to show up earlier, though.

[He pauses a beat.]

I am not very good at this. It isn't fair of me to ask you to help her, since you have just as much reason to be troubled.

[Pietro's first instinct is that someone really needs to be beaten up for that. But he's the only one who's still the 'wrong' person, isn't he?]

But everyone else did go back to normal, right? Including... y'know. [Telekinetic choking guy]

Universes are weird. People decided that people with powers were dangerous. Just because we have them.

It's not like mutants are loved everywhere back home, but I don't think it's that bad. Not with the X-men doing the whole save-the-world bit so publicly.

[He... has been sheltered from the worst of the bigotry, living in Avengers mansion like he did.]
