[It'd be so easy to just cut off there and go back to avoiding everybody and pretending that nothing's wrong. Would you be able to use the technology you're familiar with to create an alternate source of power for the ship?

It's...possible. My own ship is damaged, however, so I'd need to do some scavenging. And there's always the inherent risk of blending disparate technology.

What would you need?

A method to observe the inner workings of the ship would be a good way to start. It's a shame we don't have any schematics.
