voice

[His voice is unnaturely calm despite the fact that he woke up in a strange alien ship.]

This is something you don't see every day. An alien ship, techn that's way out of my league...it's different. Unexpected. [His voice tensed slightly at 'unexpected'. Surprises suck.]

Anyway, if anybody can hear me out there, my name is James. I'm looking for a...special someone. [Yeah, there are some definite sinister undertones in that sentence. LET ME EAT YOU, BELLA.] I doubt she's here, though. Wherever here is.

So, my mystery recording device, is it worth leaving the ship? I don't want to go out to who knows where if I'm the only one here. That wouldn't be fun now, would it.

Well, if you're looking for a particular person you might consider offering a name, description, that sort of thing next time.

As in a Cullen number? [Clearly the stranger is talking about maths, yes?]

How should I know whether you'd ask about a number or a person? You've only just arrived.

[Hey, to some people maths are important.]

Perhaps as part of a planned code to see if others you trusted were around. Perhaps to test the relative level of intellectual advancement of the culture. There's any number of possible reasons.
