This is Dylan Hunt. My first officer, Gaheris Rhade, left to explore the Wasteland three days ago and I haven't had a communication from him since. I'm going after him. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, from spare water cans to take with me to advice on your personal favorite desert survival techniques.

That's a worthy goal. I can't complain about that.

[Although he's a little disappointed at the idea of Gaheris leaving him to go off to some other timeline. It's selfish of him. That other timeline could use Gaheris. If he succeeds, billions of lives could be saved and that other Dylan wouldn't have to go through what he did. But he wishes he could take Gaheris with him instead. That other Dylan has friends aplenty, a fiancee, family, a home. Whereas he has so little. Just Andromeda and his tiny, often unreliable crew.]

I'll miss you when we leave here and go to our separate universes. [It'll be a lot like loosing Sara was, knowing that somewhere somewhen Gaheris is alive...but not for him.]

And if we're duplicates [he adds somewhat hesitantly], I'll make certain to drag you out in a timely fashion whenever you get shot again. [With that he pats Dylan and smirks at him again, as if he knows that he would.]

Rhade's gone? [Her voice is a little sharp. Not quite worry, but not exactly casual either.]

Safe to assume you're armed? [Because weaponry is the biggest help she can offer, at this point. Besides going with, obviously, but she's a little occupied at the moment.]

Yes. [He sighs.] There is that concern. We are unprepared, still, if they choose to attack again.

All right. [He considers.] In that event, perhaps it would be best, as well, to prepare for medical aid. Jim Kirk seems to find the facilities here...less than what he's used to.

Force lance. Wouldn't leave home without it.

I think he might be challenging himself. [That's better than thinking than Rhade might do something reckless out of a sense of self-destruction.]

Hey, I'm a captain, I always feel useful. [Less so without a ship, but that's just a technicality.]

[And why hadn't Rhade told her, Kara wants to ask, but she doesn't. She's pretty pissed, though.]

He wanted to explore and...and I suspect he wanted a challenge.

[Dylan's sure that there's more to it than that. (Like wanting to get away after finding out that in his future/Dylan's past he tried to kill Dylan and Dylan shot and killed Rhade.) But what he tells Kara is the part of the truth that isn't too personal and raw right now to talk about.]

I'll bring him back.

[If that was all it was, why wouldn't he have said anything? She figures there's more to the story than Dylan's letting on. And she's had it up to here with the 'butt out, it's not your concern, Kara' subtext. Or text text.]

Sure. Good luck with that. Bring him back alive so I can rip him a new one.

[With a softer, less combative tone. Kara may be a little worried, although she's trying hard not to show it.]

I have a few purified water packs left if you want them. A flash light. Spare weapons, ammo. Combat knife. Bug repellent, you'll probably be needing that.

He'd probably call it self-improvement through competition--even if he's just competing with himself and his own limits.

[Dylan knows other people who show worry in ways similar to Kara's.]

I'm sure he's okay. [Dylan forces himself to be optimistic.] Well, until you get a hold of him, then it might be a different story.

And thanks. Anything you can spare would be great. Especially the bug repellent.

I'd offer to come along, but I get the impression this is a Captain-Commander only thing.

[There's a wry quality to her words, she's used to these kinds of situations. Even if it still pisses her off.]

But I promise that next time Gaheris and I engage in some testosterone-fueled idiocy I'll invite you to come participate, too. [Kara can be an honorary bro. A really hot honorary bro.]

but he manages to procure several bottles of water, a stack of food blocks, a pack of everlasting matches, a tattered old hat, and a rucksack to put them in

he has a bit of a time finding his way out again, but he does, and he heads out the doors to wait]

[Dylan treks out to where the Doctor had directed him and sees...what must be the Doctor's ship, because there's nothing else artificial in the area and there's the Doctor beside it. But it looks tiny...and wooden. Too small and fragile for a spaceship.]

Is that...your ship? [He half expects the Doctor to laugh and tell him that that would be ridiculous and point out his somehow so-disguised-Dylan-didn't-see-it-at-all real ship.]
