I'm capable of going without air for...a while. [Longer than a human should be able to.] Genetic modification. Human lungs are more efficient in my era. [It's a feasible enough lie.]

[Damn. That lie is starting to slip. Time to decide whether to bolster it up with new lies or just let it fall. Since Kay already suspects and Narvin gains relatively little by clinging to that particular lie...]

All right. I'm not human, nor any subspecies of human or evolved form of human, although my people do have a treaty with Earth and I've been to the planet a few times. I'd rather word not get out. Humans are the clear majority here and I'd rather not face any possible prejudice.

I can go without air for twenty minutes fairly easily. Longer if I'm careful, although not without some discomfort.

Alright. [He buys that he's scared of the human majority.] I want to have a look around the ship for some medical facilities, but the air doesn't circulate too well in places. I'd like optimally to set up some sort of crude air circulation but for now...

You got any sort of scanners attached?

Some scanners, yes. They are essential to flight.

[Humans do sometimes get a little funny about aliens. Hiding his identity because of fear isn't even really a lie, although it's not the entire truth.]

[Again he thinks, trying to decide how much to say.]

The ship wasn't automated. I found records that show that there was definitely a crew. So logic dictates that the crew had to have access to medical resources somewhere. Whether or not they're accessible now is another matter, of course.

I figured. Could you check and see if the word "Salvation" appears in the records? [He's sure that it has something to do with the ship outside of crazy old woman rambling.]

Any place I could meet up with you to work this out?

Salvation is the name of the ship. Salvation and the Earth symbol for infinity.

[There's another hesitation. This time not because he's unsure how much truth to tell but because he's a bit humiliated about how poorly he's faring at low-tech survival.]

I mostly stay in the ship. I can meet you at the entrance.

I'll be right there. [And he takes off. One mystery down, five BILLION to go. But for now he wants to save the kid.]

[Narvin lurks just inside the entrance of the ship, waiting for Kay. He's mostly managed to keep himself fed and watered, thanks to labour trade with Edmund, but his hair is starting to look a bit wild and his clothes quite dirt stained and his appearance has become overall haggard. When he sees Kay he steps out to meet him.]

[Kay takes in that appearance as he approaches.] You look like life has been kicking the shit out of you, Tiger. [Kay? Doesn't look like he's a bit more out of shape than the last time Narvin saw him, but he adapts well.

He heads into the ship with him.] Is there any information on the ship that crashed first?

I'm not well suited to this sort of environment. [Too much nature, not enough technology. And no Leela to help him. He doesn't think he can survive like this indefinitely. He needs to get out of here, into the dome.]

The logs indicate that it was involved in a fire fight with another ship. That might be the second crashed ship, although it's not clear.

I need to figure it out. The more we know, better chance of getting the fuck out of here. [And it looked like this guy needed to get back home, whoever he was.]

Well, I need to look around for medical facilities on the ship. They're probably better than what the Authority will let those people have. [He nods back to the scant settlement.]

["Getting out of here" are like the magic words. Narvin decides to tell all he's found out and keep all of his options for escape open.]

There was a crew of eight. Strange malfunctions began to appear and the crew suspected that one of their number was committing sabotage. Suspicions were raised, accusations were hurled and in the end they turned on each other. The rest is encrypted. I haven't broken into those files yet.

I do, however, have a layout of the ship. I can call it up on one of the computer screens. Perhaps we can narrow down where a medical bay would most likely be located.

[Oh, hell, did Narvin just word barf at him? How long has he been holding back?]

[But damn, he's curious now. But the kid is more important to finding out what goes on underneath the dome.] Look, that boy they're after, he's worse off than you are out here. If this thing is as advanced as it seems to be, there has to be a way to help someone with those sorts of immunity deficiencies. [Or at least the facilities to do what he has planned.]

I don't wanna go find him until I have something I can offer.

I can hold my breath. [Not as long as Wing, obviously, but both her training and her synthetic modifications have seen to her ability to hold it for... well, 'a damn long time' seems to fit just fine.]

[Narvin's used to working with a team, or at least a partner. It's difficult being so completely on his own with no one to report to, or give orders to, or even just confer with.

He goes to one of the computer consoles and pulls up the ship's layout.]

If all else fails, I can try to activate one of the empty pods and put him in stasis. It's not a permanent solution, but it might keep him alive until one can be found.
