This is Gaheris Rhade and I've returned from a brief scouting expedition- [and he adds because Dylan had announced his alone-time.] -after unexpected delay. [Unexpected delays being a lot on his mind and curiosity about anything remotely dangerous.] Does anyone know anything about the body of water that used to be where the Wasteland now is?

I can't determine much. [Other than there was a dome in the middle of it. A lit dome. And he highly suspects it's the cause of that body of water being gone.]

Perhaps this is a very typical inquiry, but what have I missed?

*OOC: I need a way to break off the end of a boneblade for Loki's plot and am open to ideas, accidental and purposeful for ingredients.

Certainly, at your convenience. I'm at the house where we talked before. I've sort of moved in here, actually. There's a fireplace that works and a well with clean water in the garden. [And loads of privacy.]

[the Doctor's voice is visibly relieved] Oh, thank goodness.

[and then his tone immediately shifts to concerned] He did find you, I hope?

I welcome a bit of quiet, personally. A lack of Outer Authority intrusion is a good thing in my book.

I'll be there in a while.

[And he is. He looks mostly alright, he's just more tired and now that he's healed past the sunburn, a shade or two darker. He knocks at the front door when he reaches it.]

Quiet from someone who actively works against you usually indicates they're waiting intentionally, or they're inconvenienced. I hope it's the latter.

But quiet is still better than constant bombardment.

Yes. [With all the exasperation of a friend who didn't want his friend to do a risky thing because he was doing a risky thing.]

I was returning when I encountered him. My trip ran longer than I anticipated because I wasn't satisfied with what I was finding. [Which is the best way of phrasing it, he supposes.]

Yes. We're both unharmed.

Not that there's a lack of things that can harm someone out there, but I didn't go out of my way to confront any of them. [He has good ears and he put them to use this time.]

[Private]

I believe they drained the water out of a lake. Out of the entire area.

[The front door is actually slightly ajar, and in the pause before Sma opens it all the way, Rhade probably hears some banging about inside. When she opens the door, there's plaster dust in her hair and she's holding a mallet in one hand.]

Hey. Come on in and please forgive the mess. I was trying to fix one of the doors.

[The rooms are still a work in progress, but she leads him down to the stone-walled kitchen, where a fire burns in the fireplace. Of all the rooms in the house, this is the warmest and most home-like—the fact that she's primarily living out of this room is underlined by the bed pushed up against the wall. There are a couple of chairs, stone counters, shelves, but no table.]

[Before his adventure, he was playing the part of Dylan's carpentry bitch. So he comes in and has a seat on one of the chairs.] Plaster is a good look for you. [He'll never be too tired to tease. Never.]

[and the grin is back] I'm glad to hear it. Though I would love to know what's wandering round out there, in safer circumstances.

[Private]

[and his expression turns thoughtful] Well. That's either selfish or ruthless. Both, probably.

[And his is determined. This sort of behavior makes a mockery of his beliefs.] Ruthless and selfish and nowhere near enlightened. They're destroying the world that they live on for temporary gain rather than permanent security. Weakening themselves to only exist in their carefully constructed environment while they destroy the outer one.

How did that work out for you?

[She doesn't want to admit to how concerned she'd been]

So you were told who kills you. That's gotta be a lot to process. What's a Nietzchean? Is that your race?

[For once her tone isn't judgmental. Maybe it's because he's made a good impression.]

It is. My ancestors were genetically engineered to survive in harsh conditions, to be creative and strong. To be independent. But

I'm a would-be traitor. I've been talked out of it, but if history had progressed along the expected path, I would have turned against my military for betraying my people. I intend to try to change history now that I'm more aware.

But if I don't recall what I've learned here, if I can't go back, then I will place my faith in parties that don't deserve it and I will die. [And from what he's heard, by his own choosing, which is a monumental shame to what he is.] For someone whose culture is steeped in survival, it's a lot to take in. [Not to mention that his own people fail him as certainly as the Commonwealth did.]

It hasn't happened yet. And if you need to fight it, you will.

[She may not know Rhade well, but her gut tells her that he's not a traitor. Or if he is? He has his reasons.]

Where are you?

I'm at home. [Home is a strange way of putting it, but it's the best that he has right now. So he'll use it.]

Can I come and see you?

[There's an odd vulnerability in her tone. She's uncertain of where she stands with him.]

[He can't really understand why she does. He told her he's a traitor, and potentially dangerous. But he's greedy and selfish, and he's spent days alone. Now he wants the company.]

I would like that.

[He doesn't have to tell her twice. She heads out to the place where he and Captain Hunt are holed up. She has some 'shine with her, but really? She just wants to see him and reassure herself that he's okay. She knocks on the door, fidgeting a little on the doorstep.]

[He's alright looking when he opens the door. He heals quickly, so he's a shade darker and just a little tired looking, but that's more the thought he's been putting into things.]

Come in. [He holds it open for her with his shoulder.] I see you brought company. [He nods toward the bottle.]

[Kara heads inside towards his room, tossing him a look.]

I brought something to celebrate you getting back in one piece. But hey, I'm open to other ideas...

[He follows after her, hands folded behind his back.] I won't argue. I think that's a worthwhile celebration, and it was my intention all along.

[Though he doesn't exactly feel as though he's in one piece. He's actually more aware of a fracture he had barely contemplated before.]

[As soon as she gets into Rhade's room, Kara spins around and starts to give him the once over, checking to see how he really is.]

I told your Captain that I thought you were a testosterone fuelled idiot for running off.

[She confesses, flashing him a rueful sort of smile.]

Ah. He only called me a "reckless" one. [He holds up his hands in mock surrender, letting her check him.]

I have exceptionally sensitive hearing. Nothing was able to sneak up on me, and there were enough left over land formations and boats to sleep safely around.

[She tilts her head at him.]

I get called that on a daily basis. Good thing you didn't get yourself killed, otherwise I would have been really pissed.

[Kara surges forward and kisses him on the lips. But then she pulls back, realizing how forward she's being.]

[He's surprised enough that it takes him a moment to pull his hands from their position, resting them on the sides of her face lightly before she pulls away.

And he blinks.]

I suppose the point was I wanted to survive, but- [- I've already lost my life. He cuts off, then he steps forward and hugs her. Still baffled, but unhappy that she's so unhappy (and with himself for letting all this affect his judgement). He's not very good at being supportive. This is what he can manage.]
