[Rhade sounds a little distant when he speaks. Less forceful than usual, because he's having a What is the point? moment. His tone is a little cracked and weary, even.]

If anyone sees Kara Thrace, please inform her her that I liberated one of her bottles of alcohol from her new living establishment. If anyone sees Diziet Sma? -Well. You're not going to. She's back in her pod aboard the ship to last until the power gives out, anyway.

I would recommend if anyone who woke up in the ship has recently disappeared, you go and look for them there. It may be a sign of further malfunction.

[And he shuts off the feed.]

I broke it. It was useless anyway. [Dismissively, as he's pulled back to Dylan.]

You don't have to be, either. Not everything is your responsibility. I'm not. I got myself drunk. I broke my boneblade. I walked out into the Wasteland. I joined the military. I joined the insurrection. I agreed to be your best man knowing what I was going to do. I knew you were... too trusting...

[He didn't call him dumb this time, at least. He trails off, frowning. And then his expression again.]

Look at how many times you've survived me. It's no wonder that I-

[And again, trailing off. But this time with a hard swallow.]

[His voice is gentle, but intent; it's not faith driving his tone, but determination.] We won't let the ship die. We'll see them again.

Easier said than done.

I'm not an engineer. My technical expertise relates to sabotage, not fixing. There's nothing I can do in this case.

[And it obviously irritates him no end.]

Malfunction?

[This is worrying news. And all the more reason to keep the ship protected.]

Do you recall if she behaved strangely beforehand? Signs we might look out for?

No. She seemed perfectly normal. [This bothers him too.]

...As normal as I could notice someone that I wasn't all that well acquainted with being.

Doesn't sound like any malfunction I've ever heard of. The pods re-sealing, that I could believe, but who put them back inside to start with?

[She's not asking for an answer--he's probably as confused by that as she is. She doesn't want to cry wolf, but this just screams 'inside agent' to her.]

I have confidence that Diziet Sma wouldn't have been taken by surprise if she could have helped it.

[He probably knew more about what she was than anyone else.]

That just means the enemy's that much stronger. Or smarter. Or-... [She shakes her head, not that he can see it.] Shit, and it's not like speculation will get us anywhere, either.

[Especially not on a public network.]

[He turns on the video feed finally, but it's not facing him. There's a slightly bobbing few of the row of pods as he's walking along with a surprisingly firm stride for being so inebriated. And then he points it up to a pod with Kirk in it and Kirk's name on it, sealed and closed.]

Like I said, you might want to have a look around.

[At sight of the name, she swears under her breath. When she speaks again, her voice is a little quieter.] It's like they know. [They're neatly picking off those she's decided she can trust, one by one, despite that she was for the most part very careful to keep it off the network.]

[He clicks off his feed.] I'm 13 rows down. If you can't find me, you'll know where to look.

[Private]

And don't let anything happen to my captain.

No. [It's firm. They're not losing anyone else. She refuses.]

Where are you? [They need to talk. Strategy-talk, talk that can't occur over the network.]

Is Kara missing?

I'm at the ship. [Though his strategy is kind of wait for things and if things come punch them in the face at the moment.]

I didn't know. No one mentioned it, but that girl is here too. The one who could see into the future.

I can't find her or her roommate. Perhaps she's out looking for her or vice versa.

[He snorts a tight, unhappy laugh] She wouldn't be here on the ship, though. There's no pod for her. The most I can hope for is that she found her ship and was agreeably selfish and left while she could.

[If that's the case, he wishes he'd have gotten at least a good-bye. But they weren't really anything for him to deserve a good-bye.]

Of course you're my responsibility. You're part of my crew. More than that, you're my friend. When you're in danger or hurt or making stupid decisions, I'm going to be concerned.

You weren't really trying to kill me. If you were I'd be dead. [He knows this suddenly, like he once knew that the Vedran Admiral's signature was false. Knows it like it's an indisputable fact.] I think, in your own insane Nietzschean way, you were trying to warn me about my own stupid decisions.

They're still my decisions. [He rests more firmly against Dylan, then, though, as if that bit of observation finally saw something that he needed to notice. A small obvious thing that he'd been hoping Dylan wouldn't be blind to.

The Commonwealth made Rhade a murderer. Conflict is in his genes, and education taught him brutality. But he spoke at Dylan instead of killing him- it had been obvious to him since the moment he heard it.]

I picked you over me.

And it's my decision to be concerned about your decisions. [And Gaheris was accepting Dylan's help now instead of pulling away. So at least a part of Gaheris must be okay with Dylan giving him a hand.]

I thought Nietzscheans didn't do that. Altruism. It's not evolutionarily useful or something.

[Okay in the way that he's using it as an excuse to sap comfort out of him like a needy sponge. He looks up at Dylan.]

We don't.

[He's halfway between saying it, wanting Dylan to figure it out just to prove that he could see why Rhade is so upset over the abrupt absence of his friends, over the idea of potentially losing him too, and thinking Dylan was happier not knowing.]

O-kay. So...either it wasn't altruism or you're not a Nietzschean. And neither of those are the case...

[It's like one of those paradoxical logic problems, where nothing turns out to be true.]

Do Nietzscheans ever consider just saying what they mean?

Yes. I have been. [He's awkwardly silent for a moment.]

I don't know why I did it. [That part is completely honest. He just has theories, ideas that make sense, evidence fact-checked in his own mind.]

Let's go home. [And he's trying to push off again to walk with determination.]

[Dylan sighs. That's the problem with it happening in Gaheris' future. Dylan can ask about what Gaheris planned to do, but neither of them can know for sure what exactly was going through Gaheris mind at that moment when he started firing in his direction, because for this Gaheris here, it hasn't happened. And may never happen.]

Right. Home.

[Maybe he'll understand what Gaheris is trying to say after he's had time to ponder it.]

[He would probably tell him to the best of his ability after they got there. Or ineptly show him.

Because Dylan was wrong. Pessimism would help him live tonight like he wouldn't have a chance to tomorrow.]

[She's on her way, not that it needs said. She and Rhade aren't particularly close, but in times like these, with a good five of their allies down already, it's no time for formalities. If he's punching things in the face, so is she. For now, at least.

At the latter part, her brow's knitting, not that he can see it. There's a pause.] See into the future-... [Thinking thinking thinking--] River? [Because her first few days here, she had boy!River clinging to her like a leech, but then he went missing and after a week or two's searching there really wasn't much to do about it. Somehow, she never thought to look back in his pod, but that makes sense, doesn't it?]

Yes, that was her name. [He'll be waiting by that particular pod when he gets there, but not looking at it.

He didn't know her that well, but she drives the situation home. She had a lot of people fighting for her. And there they were...]
