[Video] Early Saturday

[The screen flickers on to show an annoyed, ruffled, white-haired young man, clearly standing right outside the spaceship. The image is in focus and right-side up, even. Somebody knew what a video phone was. He brushes some hair back into place with quick fingers before speaking, his voice irritated instead of scared or worried.]

What the hell, man? Think you coulda warned me, huh?

[He scowls at the screen - clearly, a reply that's not instantaneous isn't quick enough]

Hellooo, Magneto? Cut the mysterious crap and get with the program! This another one of your tests? What more do I need to prove, huh?

[His eyes widen in surprise, then narrow in suspicion. The question definitely has him on the defensive.]

What do you mean?

[Nope, still going to insist he needs no one and nothing.]

Yeah, yeah. Like I'm going to need you. Just stay outta my way, all right? You're underestimating me.

[She glances up, looking downright pained.] I really would expect better of him. [To use and manipulate children - surely not, even decades later?]

Or you could tell me that I'm completely off the mark, and Magneto wasn't chosen because your boss can manipulate metal. [Not that it isn't a ridiculous name regardless.]

[oh pietro. i hope you enjoyed not knowing who you were talking to, because it's time to ruin your fun a little.]

Look, lady, I don't know how you know the bastard, and I don't have any idea what you'd "expect better" about. But at least he's got the right idea about things. Building a better world for mutants.

[He doesn't remember a time when Magneto wasn't obsessed with the cause.]

[Fun so over now. He goes sheet white and sputters for a moment.]

[His voice even squeaks a little in surprise]

[Magneto didn't play this kind of game, for one. This man really has no idea who Pietro is.]

[She heaves a heavy sigh as her hand falls.] I know him the same way Charles does. [More or less. She's still not quite sure which Charles this universe belongs to - if any.]

I always knew we wanted the same things, ultimately, and that we'd employ very different methods in search of it. There are simply some I didn't expect.

Unfortunately, it's quite possible.

[but that reaction? well, it'd be expected if pietro was a human from their world. but this?]

I take it you're familiar with another version of myself.

[His voice rises as he gets more frazzled, and the communication immediately cuts off at the end. Not to confuse Erik any more or anything]

Well, now you know to expect them. Not that it makes any difference, because it doesn't look like he's here. Enough said.

[Okay, Magneto? Clearly not this kid's favorite topic, despite supposedly working for him.]

...No. Magneto isn't. [And he won't be, if she can help it.]

You're clearly conflicted about the man. Why follow him?

Because he's good at what he does. You don't have to like someone to work with them.

[He's not saying something.]

But it's really none of your damn business.

[The questions go right over Todd's head, and he gapes unhappily at the revelation about mutants.]

Other mutants? Where? Who is it? How come they ain't talked to me yet?

[No, that Thero dude doesn't count. He's a wizard. Though he might count in a pinch, if he has to tell Pietro something. But still!]

Gee, I can't imagine why people wouldn't want to talk to you, Tolanski.

[Okay, so maybe Pietro's been a little meaner since the whole Sentinel betrayal thing]

It doesn't matter who. Besides, I think one's related to the X-geek's Professor. We shouldn't get involved with them.

[And one of them definitely isn't some bizarre version of his father, nope.]

[Her lips part for an argument - and then she stops. Considers.] No, I suppose not. I apologise for prying.

[It's tempting, to see exactly what he's holding back. But she holds herself to a higher stander than that. Or she tries, anyway.]

You won't need to follow anyone here, though I wouldn't suggest facing this world alone. It's a dangerous place, even for mutants; perhaps moreso. [One hand absently touches her neck, fingers tracing a line long gone.]

How many times do I have to say I can handle myself? I'll be fine. Though that's none of your business, either.

[Jocelyn immediately shakes her head, hand falling out of sight.] That, I'm afraid, I must disagree with.

[She speaks intently, and sincerely.] I don't doubt your capabilities. I'm sure you've been trained well. [That, at least, she has no reason to doubt.] But we're all at a distinct disadvantage. None of us are safe. Not if we don't work together.

[Even the Pietro Todd remembers isn't that mean. He actually looks a little hurt by the snipe.]

So what, you just wanna be me'n you, or somethin'? Sounds kinda dumb, to me. Though I do know this guy who calls himself a wizard. Don't seem much like a mutant, but he can do some kinda cool stuff....

Yeah, well, if I feel the sudden urge to get all touchy-feely with you lot, I'll be sure to let you know.

[He rolls his eyes. Nope, he's not taking this well at all.]

[Her tone shifts abruptly, becoming cool and clipped.] This isn't about playing nice, Quicksilver, this is about staying alive.

[...And then her lips curve, just slightly.] We don't need to like each other to work together.

[And Toad should know better than to expect Pietro to be friendly, exactly. At least since he turned traitor for Magneto's sake.]

They wouldn't accept us, anyway. The one was talking like the X-men do. They're all too good for us.

And it has nothing to do with him being a stubborn ass about accepting help.

He just sounds annoyed

I'll get back to you.

Because he wants to check out this 'dangerous' place on his own, first.

[Her voice is softer, now.] I appreciate that.

Do try to avoid the Outer Authorities in the meantime.
