[Video] Early Saturday

[The screen flickers on to show an annoyed, ruffled, white-haired young man, clearly standing right outside the spaceship. The image is in focus and right-side up, even. Somebody knew what a video phone was. He brushes some hair back into place with quick fingers before speaking, his voice irritated instead of scared or worried.]

What the hell, man? Think you coulda warned me, huh?

[He scowls at the screen - clearly, a reply that's not instantaneous isn't quick enough]

Hellooo, Magneto? Cut the mysterious crap and get with the program! This another one of your tests? What more do I need to prove, huh?

Uh-huh.

[Jerk. Todd isn't convinced, but hey, Pietro's about the only thing he knows what to expect from around here, so. He (somewhat reluctantly) makes the offer.]

You got all your stuff? I'm stayin' at this place called, uh, the Flop? There's prob'ly room there for you, too.

[He gestures at his street clothes with some irritation]

This is all I woke up with. Not even my costume - can you believe it? Now let's go check this place out. Can't be worse than the boarding house, can it?

[Whatever that means]

Yeah, sure. Buh-bye now.

[He's so done here]

Geez. I at least got that.

[He can't help but sound a little big smug, at that. He turns to head back the way he'd come, to lead the way to the Flop.]

But yeah. It's pretty messed up, but it ain't that bad. 'Least it's clean. But it got, like, bombed sometime, or somethin', it's missin' stories on the top. Kinda cool lookin', really.

Yeah, yeah.

[Bombed? This isn't making it easy to blow off all the warnings he's gotten. He starts following Todd]

Be just like home, then. Except the bombs make a mess instead of Alvers.

[Your outrage doesn't begin to touch Hudson's upon his awaking. Let the old soldier show you how it's fuckin' done.]

Sorry, princess. Guess I forgot to set your aromatherapy alarm clock.

[Not even going to ask? She bites back another sigh, and nods. She's not going to force him.

You'll want to tread carefully in the city, as well. The last attack left certain areas highly unstable.

[Todd snickers, at that.]

Yeah, kinda like that, I guess. People ain't all very... friendly, but some of 'em are. Like that big robot guy. He kept talkin' like the goodie-goods, all about stickin' together and helpin' each other out, and stuff.

[He obviously is still skeptical about it all, but hey, he's willing to be convinced if they're really serious about it all.]

One of the local myths actually has it that we're here to bring freedom to a downtrodden people.

[Pepper's delivery is several strides beyond dry for that statement. It's not that she thinks the myth is without merit, just that there's a shortage of chisel-jawed heroes running around. (Captain America excluded.)]

Alternately, the ship just crashed accidentally, and our purpose is still unknown. In the mean time, you may as well help out while you're here, mm?

[Robot? Well... that's not any weirder than some of the other things he heard over the network.]

Well, I don't know about you, but I'm not planning on teaming up with those losers. They'll just slow me down.

[He zips around in a quick circle to illustrate. Damn, does it feel good to stretch his legs a bit.]

[Pietro rolls his eyes]

Maybe for an amateur, that'd be a problem.

[Sorry, Xavier, he's hanging up on you now. The brat.]

[The expression Pepper gets back is just about as disbelieving as her tone]

Uh-huh.

Well, the only person I need to help out is me, lady. And I don't particularly care why this ship's here unless it'll get me home.

And who're you supposed to be? The welcome fairy?

[This kid's got pretty thick skin, assuming he's not in any physical danger]

[Todd just rolls his eyes at the showing off. Nevermind that if it were him, he'd be showing off all over the place.]

Long's you don't get yerself shot, or somethin'.

[Pietro might've been a jerk-- and is being more of a jerk than usual, today-- but he was still on his side. Sort of.]

Toad, Toad, Toad. Have I ever gotten shot before?

[Being tagged by Spyke's spikes doesn't count, for some reason.]

So. Bombs and guns, huh? Guess they weren't exaggerating. Ah, well. I don't plan to get involved.

[Really, when it comes to bombs and guns, Todd would rather not get involved, too. He isn't going to fight Pietro on never getting shot-- it just ain't worth it-- but he does roll his eyes and ask,]

Then what do you plan t'do?

I... haven't figured that out yet.

[Darn Toad, poking holes in his logic. He looks a tad annoyed]

Probably gather information. See if I can figure out what's going on here, and how to get us home.

[Todd, using logic at all? The world must be coming to an end.]

Well, goin' home's probably better than bein' stuck here. They keep talkin' about not having enough food and bein' careful and stuff. It's like hidin' from normal people all over again, only worse.

[And he knows how much he hates that. They'd even tries getting rid of it, and look how well that had gone over? Geez.]

Fair enough. But...

[And there's always a 'but', isn't there? Pepper looks wry as she explains.]

The economy here is trade based, and it's pretty limited. There used to be some basic supplies provided to new arrivals, but after some recent events caused by one of us, I wouldn't count on them continuing as a sure thing.

Oh, I've got a few tricks up my sleeve.

[No, Pietro isn't above taking what he needs to survive. Though he's not a total asshole. He'd be sure to steal from people who already had more than they needed.]

It's gonna take a lot more than that to convince me I should do the whole teamwork - buddy system - commune thing.

And I hate hiding.

[At least they could agree on something?]

Leave it to me, and I'll figure out what makes these so-called 'authorities' tick.

Okay, sure.

[So it's more just wait and see, apparently. Well, Todd's happy to let Pietro see what he can do. He can just... uh... wait on Thero, or something.]

Just keep me in the loop, right?

[Pietro, of course, has no idea what's he's going to do here. But he's not about to let that stop him.]

Sure, sure. I'll let you know if I need you for something.

[The idea that Todd might refuse to do anything he orders hasn't occurred to him yet.]

'Course you will.

[Todd says it at a grumble. At least Thero was kind of nice about it. He decides then and there not to mention Thero anymore at all. So there.

He mostly keeps to muttering under his breath until they reach the Flop, unless Pietro has something more to say.]
