[Natasha's dealt with some strange things in the last few days, but waking up a space ship is probably the weirdest. the disorientation is frustrating, but she works through it, quickly finding her things before examining the pod she'd woken in, twisting her phone around in her hands before turning it on and speaking]

I'm looking for a Clint Barton and Nick Fury. Preferably intact and as soon as possible.

[she's all ready beginning to browse through the network it hooks to, gathering what intel she can as she starts making her way through the ship]

Alien spaceships, prehistoric worlds, giant cities and dinosaurs. Anything else I should know? If this is another one of Loki's games, I'd like advanced warning this time.

[and she steps out of the ship to finally see the world herself, going still a moment, lips pressed tight and head tilting to the side]

Yeah, definitely not Earth.

[Oh, right, she mentioned more names. He just fastened onto the one he halfway recognized.]

Fury. He knows one of my... teachers, I guess?

[Whether or not Mr. Logan is on the planet, he's not going to bring his name into things without permission. Kurt's got at least that much sense.]

Coping mechanism. Some people drink, some people smoke, I... organize, apparently.

[There's some self-deprecation in Pepper's smile, but not so much as to dismiss the observation -- you aren't as good at your job as Pepper is without knowing it.]

Weapons are, unfortunately, both scarce enough and valued enough to be a form of high-value currency. Speaking of, there's no actual currency -- barter and trade, of goods and skills. I can put you in touch with the head of the local trade, if you like -- I've been doing a few things for him.

The probability is very low, considering the wide range of people who arrive here, as well as the fact this is supposedly a possible future for humans, even though we're not on Earth itself.

Fury knows a lot of people. I can't say I'm surprised.

Apocalypse?

We're on some sort of colony?

There are worse coping mechanisms than organization.

I'll be sure to keep my weapons close, then. But if they value skills, I think this barter system might work well for me. I take it the trader comes recommended if you're a repeat customer?

[Aaaand suddenly Kurt remembers how Todd and Pietro are from different times than he is, that Magneto apparently pays attention to his charges, that there's a woman who's apparently the professor...]

Um, Apocalypse the mutant, not Apocalypse the... thing. Not that it's a mystery where he got his name or anything. His real name was, well, something Egyptian. Entschuldigung. Mostly I was paying attention to my part of the plan more than the history lesson.

[Which turned out to be mainly lying there unconscious after Apocalypse swatted him like a gnat. But he doesn't have to own up to that.]

[okay then. Fury keeps his secrets, but Natasha is pretty sure she'd know about something like that, secrets of no. so she's just silent, processing what he said, because mutants and shit? yeah, no real idea what's going on there ~~stupid movie licensing~~]

Sounds like fun.

[Usually he's a fan of sarcasm, but on this subject?]

Not even a little bit.

His first loyalty is to profit, but he's fair, and he wants to do well by the people of his city -- village, really. They may be living in the ruins of one, but a population in the low thousands does not a city make.

I, um, should probably also warn you that open network posts are monitored by the dome Authorities. You can filter communications to a single person, but if we have wiretapping in our world, I imagine the Authorities have the same -- they have hovercraft, for god's sake.

[And, by an expression caught halfway between disbelief and resignation, it looks like she just knows Tony's going to get in on that somehow.]

[Really. He might actually, literally explode if he doesn't annoy someone at least once a day.]

Apparently. Which says something for the impact zones on that spaceship, actually, if you think about it.

[His smile turns a bit wry.] A sensible philosophy, but it does tend to take the wonder out of things.

[And a slight nod, with a gesture towards his shoulder.] The enforcers of the giant city. You'll know them by their protective suits and advanced weaponry.

It worked out though, didn't it?

So communication should ideally be on contained channels. That's not unlike home. [it's nice to know some things never change, even on alien planets]

What are these Authorities and how do we get to them?

Thinking about spaceships seems more something for you and Banner, to be honest.

I take it you've explored the ship as much as possible so far. Any leads on who brought us here and why?

In my experience, there isn't much to be awed over.

[head tilt] What are they after?

Ja. Or so I'm told. I was unconscious for most of it.

[He shakes his head.] You're entirely too young to be so jaded.

[His smile is edged with bitterness, now.] What are their sort ever after? Devastation. Domination. They want no competition for their own city, so they'll keep the rest of the word cowed and compliant.

That's almost a pity.

[eyebrow arch] I'm old enough.

An alien world with alien technology, and the motivations are the same as any other despot the world over. Some things never change.

Nein, it definitely isn't fun when I wake up.

I assume you know how to defend yourself. Do you need extra lessons?

Usually I just go ahead and... leave. Unless someone else needs defending.

No. I'm afraid I no longer have it in me to be disappointed.

You won't always have the option to leave.
