Maybe this is a dream? But then usually Ultra Magnus is talking backwards and Wing shows up to tell me that I forgot my front plating and I have a test to take...

Uh. Is anyone here?

[Maybe he's finally somehow found the Knights of Cybertron?! ... No. His luck is rarely that good.]

[Oh man. It's a human. He winces.]

So wait. There's another giant robot dude in the city?

[Now the kid is staring with interest and without shame, trying to take in differences between the two. This one is a bit spikier, maybe?]

[Oh. Of course, Drift has lived without him, gone beyond the narrow circle of Crystal City. Wing fights a pang of envy. ] Yes, humans and some who call themselves mutants.

As near as we can figure, yes. We were intended to be pawns in their war.

[Imagine how Wing feels about the idea: to be used to fight a war against a people he's never met.]

...the Knights of Cybertron? [Dai Atlas's obsession and now Drift's? ]

Oh yes. After I joined the Autobots we-

[Right. There's so much ground to cover. Wing doesn't know anything about what happened after. He winces.]

That's... hm. [Not unfamiliar to him, but to think of someone using Wing like that makes him bristle.]

Yes. That's where we were- the ship I was on previous to coming here. We were searching for them.

[LET HIM TELL YOU ABOUT HIS THEORIES, WING.]

[Drift smiles nervously and nods.]

My name's Drift. Who are you?

[Puffing himself up a little, Todd answers with pride.]

I'm the Toad.

[Deflating a little with a grin, he adds,]

You can call me Tolansky, though. You know Wing, then, huh?

[Wing laughs, partly to release the tension of his own discomfort, and he reaches out to squeeze Drift's arm.] It sounds like we have a great deal to catch up on.

[And he wants to hear all of it, every detail, as much as Drift wants to tell him.]

You, the Autobots, looking for the Knights of Cybertron? [He's...not sure how he feels about that. ]

[Every bit of contact brings back old memories to mix into the slurry of thoughts running through his head already. He's half-tempted by another hug, but he refrains, smiling in his shy, awkward way.]

Yes. It's been... quite an adventure. But it's great! We've seen so much. Remind me to tell you about the Spark Eater incident sometime.

[He wishes sorely that he could show Wing how far he's come. But words come hard right now. He quiets down again, never quite making eye contact.]

But. For now... what do we do?

[It's such an odd mix of elation and anxiety.]

The Toad? You... look like a human to me.

Alright. I uh. I will.

[He brightens a bit out of the awkward haze.]

I sure do! He's- [The most important person I ever met? My moral compass? Someone I accidentally got killed?]

We're uh. Good friends.

[Oh there's that awkward again...]

[Good thing Todd's mostly oblivious to awkward, isn't it? He's not the best with social cues, sometimes.]

Ain't human, bro. I'm a mutant!

[Todd shows off by flicking his long tongue out, so the phone's camera can see.]

Wing's my buddy, too, yo. Nice guy. Was gonna teach him how to dance but couldn't find any music.

... Oh.

[Color him confused.]

Sorry. I uh. Didn't really have a lot of intimate contact with humans or anything like that.

[Ahh that wrings a chuckle from him.]

He is, isn't he? Dancing? What kind of... music would you need?

[It's all right, Drift. Todd is a little weird all around.]

Anythin' with a good beat, I guess!

[He eyes Drift speculatively.]

Why, you got some?

Ah... no. I'm not-

Uh. No.

[Wing is the cultured one, not him.]

But couldn't you always make some music? Of your own?

Trust me, bro, you don' wanna hear me sing.

[Todd snickers at himself. He might act like a bit of an egomaniac in some things, but that's more self-defense than anything else, and he at least knows he can't sing.]

Ah.

Well music doesn't have to be singing, does it?

[He's asking honestly. He's not exactly the artsy type.]

[Oooh, more giant robots. Bruce is intrigued, yes.] I'm not sure Rodimus is here, but I've met Wing. ...Has anyone explained the situation to you yet? I'd be happy to tell you what little I know about this place.

Wow! Seems like everyone knows him.

[Not that he wouldn't expect that. Wing is a little social butterfly.]

Wing told me some. We've been discussing it. But it can't hurt to get everyone's take on it.

Uh.

[He has to think about that for a second.]

Guess not. Don't know how to play any instruments, though. Or, uh, don't even have any instruments. You seen any guitars or flutes or anything 'round here yet?

Well. I guess not.

What's a "guitar"?

[You've taken him aback again, Drift. Todd stares at him in confusion.]

It's-- uh. An instrument. To make music with. It's got strings, uh, and a hole in it, and... uh. I guess it doesn't matter, really.

[Who made music without a guitar, these days? Well, that Todd knows of. Most music he knows about it random rock music.]

Oh. Right...

Strings. And a uh. A hole.

[He's trying to picture this and he's probably way off. He kind of stares down like he's thinking way too hard about what this thing might look like.]

Wel anyways, if I run across something like that, I'll be sure to tell you.

[This is his mission now.]

[Now Todd's just amused, and he looks it. Whether or not Drift can recognize amusement on a human(ish) face is up to him, of course.]

Spark Eater? Like the...? [He can't help the fact that his optics drop to Drift's chassis, as though he needed some reassurance. Silly, what distance and worry does. ]
