Fettered arrival [video] (week 19 - Friday)

[ Sigyn hadn't exactly been happy when she woke up on the ship. She was never gratious upon being forcefully waken from slumber. Neither had she been happy when she'd found that she was no longer in the Vanir Fortress, miles and miles of realm space from her mother and sisters. So when she gets her hands on the communication device, she promptly presses all the buttons, not meaning to fuzzy-up the video and turn the volume loud enough that anyone within a mile radius can hear her voice. ]

I do not appreciate being taken from my home! Why was I taken? Who are you who live upon this world? Where is transportation to return me to my realm? I must warn you, I come from the blood of warriors, and never have we taken capture of our own lightly.

[ Her eyes glow, fingertips twitching with blue light. ]

The daughter of Freya demands answers!

[Oh, good, a crazy biotic. Ashley looks less than impressed.]

Do you think you could demand a little quieter? I'm pretty sure everyone in this cluster heard that.

How?

[ She takes the device into her hands and shakes it. ]

It. Is. Not. Quieting!

[Her wince isn't just for the volume - the jolting camera view is enough to make her vaguely motion-sick.]

Don't shake it. There should be a dial or a button labelled "volume". Turn it down.

Vol... [ She turns the phone upside down above her head, squinting at the tiny writing scribed on the device. ] Aha! She turns the phone rightside up, then presses on the arrow pointing down. ]

IS it wor -- ah.

[ Sigyn beams. ] My thanks, person whose name I do not know.

[Oh, an imperious woman who comes of the blood of warriors? Thero suddenly feels at home. Even the yelling is a bit comforting. Klia tends to have trouble with noise levels coming from a fight or the practice ring.]

Milady? I am Lord Thero i Procepios of the Oreska House of Skala. I'd be glad to explain as much as I understand. I and many others arrived the same way you did.

Ashley. My name's Ashley.

And we don't have many answers. That--

[Don't say coffin. Don't say coffin.]

--device you woke up in is some kind of stasis pod. Most of the people you'll find here either woke up the same way you did, or were already living on this planet when the ship crashed here.

Ashley. [ The name is a bit funny on her Norse tongue. ] You must be of heroic birth to have such a swift name!

[ At the words "stasis" and "pod", she cocks her head to the side quizzically, quirking a brow. ] Are we prisoners of war or refugees of crisis.

[The face of an amphibious creature appears on the communicator]

Demands are disturbing patients.

[ After Sigyn gets the device to work properly with a lower decibel level, she responds: ]

Theo of Skala, greetings. [ a lame curtsey made. ] So we are prisoners of war?

[ The device returned to proper working order with correct volume, Sigyn responds, blinking at the screen. ] Are you a water sprite?

[She can't quite help the brief snort of laughter, or the bitterness that tinges it.]

Never heard that before.

And we don't know - no one remembers how they got into the pods. My money would be on the latter, though. I've been on military vessels, and that ship isn't one.

It is most common for children to be given names that signify their strength and empower in times of need.

[ To this, Sigyn perks. ] You are a warrior!

That would be refreshingly straightforward, though that's actually far more unpleasant. At least, it is if you're the prisoner of a Plenimaran necromancer...

[Cough.]

Which, er, is neither here nor there. We don't seem to have captors, aside from being too far from home to return. People who have come out of those pods seem to come from all sorts of worlds and times. Why any of us was taken remains mysterious.

Physician.

[It's been the most important of late. But probably not what she was looking for now that he thinks of it]

Also, Salarian, amphibious species from Sur'kesh.

Well, the son of McCoy says cut the volume, you just made me drop a test tube full of what might've finally been a damned live culture of this plague.

[Have one Bones, Sigyn. He glowers at her, pauses, then shakes his head slightly.]

There are no leads on the mystery?

[ This gives reason for concern. ]

Healer!

[ She looks thoughtful. ]

...is that a type of sprite?

[ Even after Sigyn fixes the volume, she's a bit loud. ]

Plague! You tamper with disease!

That would depend on your definition of lead, I suppose. The who and the why remain unknown, to the best of my knowledge, but I believe there are some of us with an understanding of the technology on the ship?

[Words that still don't roll naturally off his tongue.]

And you have an addiction to exclamation marks.

[He drops out of sight of the feed, the back of his head appearin now and then as he stoops to clean up the glass shards and biohazard material from the lab room floor. This doesn't stop him from talking, mind you.]

Don't be a damned fool. I'm trying to stop a disease that someone else tampered with a century ago that got unleashed on the population now.

[Bones? Has an addiction to italics. Or an infection, perhaps, caught from Kirk.]

[ She peers into the screen, a bit doubtful. ]

Are you a healer?

Then we are ungoverned here?

Not in the least. There's a native population with their own rules and strictures, into which most of us seem to have opted to meekly opt in. It's a slightly odd command structure by my standards, but functional. However, there is also a city under an impenetrable dome of... some nature I don't at all understand. And its authorities maintain a tyrannical grip on the people here, from the ship or not. If they have any connection to our being here, it doesn't make any immediate sense to me.

[Thero takes a moment to sigh and rub his temples.]

There's also a plague burning through the populace and the food isn't very good. Welcome.

Yeah. Alliance navy.

[She pauses, and this time there's a little more humour in the laugh.]

Which probably doesn't mean anything to you. There's a few of us here - from various backgrounds, actually.

What are your battle skills? [ She's getting really excited, if you can't tell from her grinning and cheeks flushing. ]
