[The image that appears is of Briar, sitting on the grass just outside the ship and frowning at the device in front of him. Settled next to him is a potted miniature pine tree. But the most striking thing about him is the intricate leafy vine tattoos on his hands and forearms - which if you look closely at, you might be realise are actually moving.

When Briar starts talking, he seems to be addressing the mirror itself rather than anyone on the other end]

You can't be working, you know. I've never been able to scry - and besides, you don't even have any magic anyway, so I don't see how I'm supposed to talk to anyone with this.

[Not that Briar's all that sure he wants to talk who whoever brought him here. But magical objects without any magic is just plain bizarre, so his frown deepens]

Er...you perhaps ought to be a bit careful the sorts of things you talk about on this device. It isn't entirely safe.

[Briar looks sharply at Remus at that. He's not really surprised - why would whoever brought him here have good intentions? - but that doesn't mean he's happy to have his suspicions confirmed]

What sort of things, exactly, do I need to be careful about? Or is 'talking about what's not safe' also not safe? [He wouldn't be surprised if it was. People always seemed to expect other people to do what they wanted without ever telling them what they did want in the first place]

[Remus frowns into his mirror, running a hand through his hair briefly.]

It would probably be better to tell you in person, yes.

[Briar snorted] Figures. Alright, how exactly do I meet you in person?

Do you know where the Flop is?

The what?

[No, Briar doesn't have any clue]

Right, well...

[He pauses a moment to think.]

Where are you?

I'm outside this...whatever this building that I woke up in is.

The ship, you mean? Er...stay there, then, I guess. I'll come to you.

Ship? [Briar turns around, looks at the ship, then turns back to raise an eyebrow at Lupin] You call that a ship?

That's what I'm told it is. [He shrugs. He hand't really known what to call it either when he first arrived.]

Whoever told you that can't have ever seen a real ship!

Oh, it's not a proper ship. It's a ship for going out in, er, outer space.

Space? [Briar blinks. Space? As in way up in the sky with all the stars?] You can't just go to space.

Sure you can. Even the Muggles are doing it back home.

The Muggles. The people without...erm...

Perhaps this should wait until we meet.

Well you'd better hurry and get here, then. [Briar grins at Lupin]

[It's so much easier to just apparate than to actually walk all the way out there. And in just a few moments, he's outside the ship.]

Hello?

[Well, Briar wasn't expecting him to hurry quite that quickly. He gapes at Lupin when he appears, but his shock soon turns to curiosity as he scrambles to his feet]

What spell did you use to do that?

[That is a much less extreme reaction than Remus is beginning to become used to around here.]

It's just...apparition. Can you not do that either?

Apparition? [Briar shakes his head] I've never heard of it. I'm am ambient mage though, not an academic mage. I don't really do spells.

[Remus sighs and shakes his head, of course it was too much for him to hope this man would practice a magic similar to his own. He offers his hand.]

Remus Lupin. It's nice to meet you.

[Briar grins, and reaches out with his own hand to shake Lupin's. And if Lupin hadn't noticed Briar's tattoos before - the moving, leafy design that stretched from his hands to his elbows - then he certainly would now.] Briar Moss. So, do I get to hear about these secret things that I shouldn't say to my scrying mirror now?

[Remus shakes his hand warmly and then gives him a wry smile.]

Well, for one, the fact that you have a scrying mirror.
