All who can hear this, you will be so good as to grant me a moment of your time to listen. My message is both of stern significance and brief.

For those who've not yet met me or don't know my voice, my name is Fa Mulan. In the land I come from I am a warrior of great renown, and no small amount of skill. [She rarely ever boasts like this, so it must be important - and not about her.] The young prince and novice sorcerer known as Loki Odinson is under my protection. I know there are some of you who may take issue with his presence, or wish him harm for another unvoiced reason. But I care not what these reasons are. They are irrelevant to me, and to the oath I've taken upon my name and honor.

I don't seek out battle with this young man's would-be enemies. But if you make quarrel with him, then you will quarrel with me. That is the way of it.

I expect when I return from the short journey I am undertaking I will find Loki perfectly safe and unbothered. If not, then any who have failed to heed this warning will answer to me.

[There's a pause and then, in a softer tone, she begins as if almost in a separate message.]

Jack Frost, will you be so obliging as to allow me to request of you to keep an eye on him while I am gone?

Actually... I'm pretty sure he's older than even me, Mulan. Also, it sounds like he's got a serious case of mistaken identity. Or, um, mistaken... timeline? I don't even really know what's going on, with him not being the same Loki as before or something.

[He nods.]

You're welcome. Just try not smother him too much? I doubt he totally appreciates this when he's trying to keep a low profile on his own.

In literal years? Perhaps. [Assuming everything he says about his origins can be entirely trusted.] In attitude? A different story. But then, with all due respect, you're not exactly the aged man the numbers of your lifespan would prompt to envision, either. [She's almost teasing, really.] And as to that...I don't entirely know what's going on myself. But I don't need to. I only know I need to fulfill a promise.

Loki's already let me know of his disapproval, believe me. I can try to be more careful from now on. But I can't deny his comfort comes very secondary in my concerns to his safety.

Well, it's not like I go around telling people how long I've been around. [He grins slightly at that, with a shake of his head.] Besides, no one would believe Jack Frost to be some old guy. But I dunno, I'd like to know what's going on myself. Seems a bit unfair to compare Loki to, uh, another Loki without really getting to know the guy first.

[He sighs.]

Bet he would have been more comfortable had Sigyn not made that broadcast about his existence. Only made things worse, I think.

Perhaps. But she did, and it's far too late to rectify that error. It's in the past now. The present is not for regrets, but for handling things better.

[More softly, with a note of reluctance.]

I can't speak for anyone else but I am not comparing or trying to hold this Loki accountable for whatever crimes another man may or may not have done. I've never even met any other Loki. This is the only one I care about. The concern comes from people who might not be so...open-minded. Yes, you're right, it isn't fair. But that doesn't change things. Or the way that people are likely to behave.

I know. I just... I feel for the guy. I have had a similar experience.

[While he was never confused for anyone else, there was an assumption about him because he was a winter spirit, bringing cold and storms about with him.]

But thanks. At least there are some out there who are willing to keep an open mind.

[She didn't know that. Briefly she gives him an analyzing, more thoughtful look.

Perhaps in time there will be more than just a few of us. Until then, this seems to be the best recourse.

Yeah. I won't be getting my hopes up though.

I should go. My thanks again for undertaking this task for me. I know you don't seem to consider it too much of a burden, but still it takes some of the load off my mind.
