Hey, I'm looking for someone who's handy with tech who can maybe help me out? See, I have several medical tools that came with me from home, and they run on a certain kind of battery power. As you can imagine, this power's running low now and I don't have a proper docking and charging station for them, so I was wondering if any of you could take a look? I can search for scraps or do errands for Edmund to get the parts, I just need to know what parts I'd need first. And, well, someone to put it together for me.

[She sounds a bit sheepish there. If she could figure this out herself, she would, but it's not her area of expertise.]

Obviously I don't want to take anybody away from any important projects they're working on now. This is sort of just an offer if you're bored and want to build some tech. And I could... [What could she do to pay such a person back?] I don't know. You can tell me what you'd like in return and I'll see if I can do it or get it for you.

[After this, there's a pause, but then she goes on.]

Anyway, have any of you experienced this fog that's coming first hand before? What does it do, exactly?

Cobbling things together from disparate, degraded bits and pieces is kind of a specialty of mine. And I don't see why I'd have to be bored. If you get your medical stuff rolling, that's a quality of life issue all around, right? So if anyone complains about me falling behind a bit, I'll have Dogmeat bite 'em.

Are you looking for a power substitute, or are you looking for a converter so you can plug into the generator at the hospital and recharge?

I guess I said "bored" because I didn't want to act like my tools were more important than whatever people have going on around here, like trying to get us out of here. The hospital has tools and machines of its own, but I'll admit, mine are more advanced.

I take it Dogmeat is your pet?

Oh, good question. I guess since they're medical tools, that justifies using the generator...

Hmm, which is easier to construct? Or would you have to see the tools first to say?

The converter's probably easier. An alternate power source would be more efficient in the long run. I'd need to take a look to be sure, in case we have something on the ship that'd cover you.

Okay. Are you one of the people that spends most of your time on the ship? I'm usually up there once a day.

Yup, he's a mangy old mutt, but I like him. And he will totally bite if I tell him to, but that seems like a bad precedent... Anyway, I should say to start that tech where I'm from seems a lot different from stuff here, but I'll at least give it a look.

Indrani. Where and when are you from? Just curious. Where I started out it's 2277 in the Capital Wasteland, the general area around the D.C. ruins on Earth.

[There's a pause, and when she speaks, she sounds a little worried.]

It was 2258, and I was on a starship. I hope-- I mean, we're probably from different realities, different Earths. At least, I hope in twenty years nothing leaves D.C. in ruins.

Oh, we definitely are. That's why I'm curious. My home reality's kind of an oddball, I guess, because the bombs fell two hundred years ago, and I live in a shack mostly made of airport scrap next to a recently diffused warhead that for some reason didn't go off when it was dropped. I mean, you get the picture. Maybe?

Yeah, I-- I think I do. Who dropped those bombs?

Not a lot of accurate news left over from the period, but the big players were China and America, even if the details are buried in propaganda posters and Enclave rewrites.
