Fifth Howl [Video | Wednesday morning]

Good morning, everyone. It's Lyall.

[See how far he's fallen: he's not even putting up both names anymore. It's been a while since he's come up on the network of his own accord, rather than replying to someone else.]

I have a few things here I need some help with, and I've come to the end of my direct contacts. First, I have a list of numbers that are apparently some kind of directional coordinates-- from space. Destination unknown, origination point unknown, though I have a few guesses I could make. Are there any pilots who might be able to assist in finding where they lead to?

Also, I've got a piece of glass here that I'm told is potentially full of data. If anyone would like a crack at translating it, do let me know? It could be fairly important.

Assuming that coordinates here aren't significantly different than back home, I'll be able to read them for you. I'm not quite flightworthy yet, I'm afraid, but I'll help however I can.

Unfortunately, these coordinates mean nothing to anyone who has not piloted in space. As in, between planets. They don't mean much to some of them, either, to be honest. This is more of a shot in the dark than anything I really expect anyone to be able to help with.

I haven't tried space travel before
There's no wind to travel with there.
If you end up needing any help with the wind currents
I can help guide an airplane or ship somewhere.

I'm afraid to say they are significantly different from anything anyone I've shown them to so far. I'd be happy for you to take a look, but unless you know how to go between planets, I don't know that you'll recognize them at all.

Theoretically it should be possible.
The speed I could increase it by would be dependent on the aerodynamics of the ship though.

I imagine so. It's all tied into physics, so it couldn't go faster than the wind you could summon and the speed the ship itself is actually capable of. But you could, I suppose, make a ship at its most efficient. Very useful, indeed.

[Gives him momentary visions of derigibles and rolling land-ships guided by magical wind, but he knows better than to think he can actually create such things. Maybe with help.]

I'm a starfighter pilot. I'm not sure where this planet is located, but I can take a stab at this.

[The backdrop is the small training salle Ashley has set up. She looks to be preparing to give a lesson - she's dressed in loose pants and a tank top rather than her usual heavier fare, but shows no sign of recent exertion.]

How'd you manage to get your hands on navigational data from a starship? I thought all the computers were offline.

I can send you the coordinates, or you cane come to my office and have a look. The latter might be safer for security reasons, if you're willing. I'm at the hospital, anyone can direct you.

From a charming old woman who is generally difficult to understand. Hence my taking so long, and already a bit of help, to figure out just what they were. Do you know anything about space travel, then?

Space travel, yeah. Navigation, not so much. It's a pretty specialized field - most of us had other duties. Besides, I'm pretty sure we aren't even in the same galaxy I'm used to, so even if I could triangulate your ship's path, I couldn't tell you where it was supposed to end up.

Would this be the piece of glass we found in the shelter?

Ah well. I do have one lead, anyway. But I think we can make a few guesses as to at least one or two points of reference. Verdana is possibly one, Antigua another possible one. Earth may well be another, given how many of us come from there, it seems like a common reference point. Perhaps that can be of some use.

It would indeed. I took it to Edmund, and he at least told me what he thinks it is. Now we just need someone to tell us what it says.

Huh. I wonder how you read something like that. It must fit in some kind of machine or device that can retrieve the data.

I think I know what you're talking about, and where it can be read. That's their version of data storage, and if the ones that Solus and I tripped over during the hunt for the plague cure are an indication, very stable over the long term.

It might involve a small road trip.

[She looks excited. It's not a medical mystery to solve, but it might be linked to the hunters, and it'll do to stave off boredom around this place.]

How far away are we talking?

[This is interesting. Lyall takes a beat to poke at the aethographer screen and its new function, here. Well, new to him. Then he finally replies.]

And will you be traveling on foot or commandeering one of Mister Stark's contraptions? If you have to travel by horse, I'm afraid I can't come.

[How charming. Lyall is a little amused at the comment, but just replies:]

I can take a look at those coordinates, if you'd like. As a CO I spent most of my time staring at galaxy maps.
