[He has supposed since coming here that, since this is an alien planet, he'll have to be honest with his name (or lack thereof) in public. Hell, if any of these people go back to his neck of the woods when the ship's fixed all he has to do is send out a team and have a nice new memory written down for them. Everybody else should be in the clear.

So a little bit more honest of a public introduction than most civilians get. Though he doesn't look as official as he'd like, he's wearing an old overcoat and a high collared shirt that he's scavenged. But his expression is stony and earnest and makes up where the lack of suit detracts.]

If I've not spoken with you, my name is Agent K. I'm a protection officer from Earth. Right now, I need a technician, if we've got one, to help me have a look at one of these.

[He holds up the collar that came from Charles.]

I got a few ideas on how it might work but I'm not 100%. I also want to make sure this three person business is the most reliable way to get one off.

I'm not all that technical, but if you need a spare hand, let me know.

...Hand, singular, literally, I'm afraid. One of mine is currently up in a sling.

Cracked a bone for me and put a hole through my shoulder. I was lucky it wasn't worse; I think he was a bad shot.

Add that to the list of weird things about this place. What have you figured out so far?

[His assignment is to find out about the ship, not the collars, but any new technology piques his interest. And making contacts with the others outside the dome might help him in the long run. So he answers the call.

He's long since ditched the outer layers of his Time Lord robes--hidden them along with his spare staser in the ship--and is in a simple (and to him unbearably filthy) tunic and trousers.]

Narvin. Formerly First Technician. [All true if one takes 'formerly' to mean '800 years ago' and not 'before I was dragged to this planet.']

I'll take a look at it, give you my professional opinion.

I've been down there a couple of times myself.

It's ... got a lot of stuff.

[Implicit: all in heaps.]

Earth. At least, that's where I was trained. My work occasionally took me to other planets. [He's already let the robot assume he was human, and the lies must stay consistent. And if someone finds out the truth? He's already got an excuse planned out to explain the lie.]

I'm examining the ship now. Bring the collar here.

Hope so. Good luck. I've gotten some history lessons, which is interesting, but only a little helpful.

Would you believe it's been like this for something like a century?

Well—the community has been like this, all separated and authoritarian, for that long. I don't know about the library. But from the looks of it, I wouldn't exactly be surprised.

[Narvin crawls out from an access hatch, a little wary. It's an unfamiliar planet with unfamiliar people and the last few times he'd been in situations like that, it always seemed to go badly for him. And this time he doesn't even have Leela to protect him.]

Here. Where's the collar?

If you could keep it quiet where that collar came from... it may be a futile effort, but I would appreciate it.

[Flip, flip go the pages of her notebook.]

Not entirely. Apparently not everyone thought the dome system was the greatest idea back when they were originally constructed, and some deliberately chose to live outside them. So clearly their descendants make up some part of the population. The rest are exiles. No idea of the ratio.

Which is, in itself, extraordinary. I wonder how many of us have exceptional ability or expertise.

[Narvin, in contrast, looks both bothered *and* scared. He tries to hide the fear behind irritation, but the fact is he has no idea how to survive without civilization and he's been here for days. If he weren't a Time Lord, he'd be in far worse shape by now. And even as a Time Lord his body could only manage for so long without regular food, shelter, clean water.]

Other than the obvious: it's alien, it's barely functional. No, I've found nothing of value. Not who made it or why. Or how to fix it.

[Narvin tries to look for a clean spot to sit down with the collar and eventually gives up and sits on the ground. He's going to want to burn these clothes once he gets out of here. He takes the collar and starts to examine it.]

Please do. I've had quite a bit of experience training such individuals in my world.

Anytime. The name's Diziet Sma, by the way.
