[The setting in behind Kaylee is fairly recognizable as the area right outside the ship. Which isn't surprising, as the smudge of grease on her face suggests she's very recently been pretty deep in a generator or engine.]

Alright, I ain't the only one who's been feelin' right discombobulated when they go on or off the ship the past coupla weeks, am I? Thought I might be comin' down with somethin' at first, but that's the only time I get all dizzy like. Wouldn't be the weirdest thing the ship's ever done I guess...

Yeah. That. I, uh, didn't really think to ask anybody else 'bout it, I guess.

[So you're probably not pregnant, then, Kaylee. Not unless Todd is, too, which would be pretty impressive.]

Didn't really think much about it at first. But it kept up and there was a pattern so... must be somethin' the ship's doin'.

[She was pretty sure she wasn't anyway but this does help]

When Kakarot and I arrived on the ship, I almost lost my footing completely and smacked my head on something. So whatever it is, it's definitely on the ship. I haven't had a problem since.

Was that the only time you've been on the ship?

Yes, I haven't been back yet to explore. [He plans to.] But since you claim to have problems when on board, I assume the problem lies there and not with us. And the last time I checked there wasn't anything wrong with me to induce such symptoms.

Woudln't be the strangest thing the ship's ever done neither.

[Though at this point she has accepted she should probably at least see a doctor to completely rule out the other possibilities.]

Yes, you just said that. [He's just normally cranky, don't mind him...]

[Kaidan huffs out a very long sigh.]

I'd assumed it was just my implant playing up, interference from the ship hitting it or something. But there's a lot weird with the ship, if you ask me.

[The other explanation has her a bit distracted at this point]

Things that look like they're there until ya try to really see 'em. Things disappearin'. And right weird things happenin' with time.

Seems to run on weird.

Christine was askin' if ya had tools that might be able to get some scans. Radiation and the like.

The ship has induced hallucinations before? [Okay he's never heard of that happening on a ship before, and he's been on a lot of them.] How is that even possible?

[Doing strange stuff with time though? That's normal. His own wife built a time machine after all...]

Might be halluncinations, might be somethin' else. Can't really rule anythin' out.

I haven't gotten any alarms off my suit systems about radiation, but I could see about rigging it to scan for things outside the usual spectrum. Infrasound might be something.

Or, ah...

[Kaidan's hand can almost be seen rubbing the nape of his neck, despite the audio link.] Did Shepard or Solus or anyone else from my reality tell you about Reapers?

Assuming it's not normal. The ship jumps between reality - it needs to have a way to keep its internal environment livable.

[He sort of wishes Bulma were here now, she might be able to figure the ship out.]

Hmmmm. Have you ever considered that the ship may be alive by its own means?

[Now she's thinking about it a bit more]

Could even be somethin' as simple as the gravity playin' up.

We're pretty sure there's a robot brain in there somewhere. Sounds like somethin' outta science fiction, but so does half the things she does.

[No, but that word sounds like one she definitely knows better than anyone would want to.]

They anythin' like Reavers?

Why don't I just take care of that little problem then for you and eliminate the ship. So then we don't find out what else it's capable of.

[Kaidan's brain helpfully points out that he can reave. He manages to keep from saying as much, although there's another pause.]

That depends. Are your Reavers giant sentient machines on a mission to wipe out all organic life from the galaxy, apparently because somebody programmed them wrong?

[Shepard may have explained about the Catalyst and the Leviathans, but even his own last memory of staring worriedly into a grey alien sea doesn't make that last bit any easier to believe.]

[She shakes her head. Those don't sound that much better. How could anyone be so irresponsible as to program a machine like that?]

They were men, once. No one's rightly sure what made 'em go wrong. But... they don't leave survivors, and what ya find after ain't pretty.

And how exactly do you know that? Besides, you haven't seen what a ship like that is capable of. The last one I encountered sucked the very life force out of the planet. How do you know that's not what this is doing?

That's... well, it's got a few parallels to what the Reapers do, but what they do is they take people, from all the races they capture, and usually they just end up converting you into shock troops, which is bad enough -- Husks, dead bodies reanimated, stuck full of their cybernetics and pointed back at their own side.

The thing that's got me wondering, though is the other thing they do. Indoctrination.

[There's a moment's hissing silence on the line, as Kaidan shakes off dark thoughts and replaces them with useful ones.]

Exposure to Reaper ships or artifacts for long enough starts having... effects, on people. Compromising them, turning them into agents in place, that sort of thing.

Well there ain't any other interdimensional spaceship handy. She brought us here and she's the best chance of anyone ever gettin' back.
