He's kicked the spider's nest, foolish boy. 'Ware the splinters.

The pieces retain the properties of the whole.

[She sounds, perhaps, a little relieved.]

It is transient, but no less dangerous.

[Now that's interesting. Both pieces, in fact, as well as her tone. Some of that is apparently right, though in what fashion, Haruka doesn't know.]

So it will go away soon? After, I guess, the splinters? Or perhaps it is only on the move....

[She thinks that's what transient means.]

Yes.

[This is probably "yes, both are correct", though, the Oracle being the Oracle, it could always be "yes, one of these is correct".]

[Haruka takes it conservatively, for now, and goes with "it's on the move" rather than "it's likely to go away"; probably safer that way.]

Any suggestions for what we should do when the splinters show? Or where they may show, so that we can be ready for them?

Thank you, obaa-san. ... do you have a name? No one has ever told it to me.

A name? I had one, when I was a girl. I traded it to heal what should not be broken.

[There's a brief pause.]

The boy might know it. He knows many things. But his name is secret.

Which means I can't ask you who he is to ask.

[Sigh.]

Not even a hint? It would be good to know to who I am speaking. More than just obaa-san.

You may call me Delphi. It isn't my name.

Like the other Oracle?

[What? She has a had a good education. She knows the Greek myths. Haruka makes a face, not that she can see it.]

That sounds impersonal. But if it is what you prefer. Delphi-san.

You pay attention.

[She sounds inordinately pleased.]

It's less disheartening than Cassandra.

I am glad to please.

[It feels a little like pleasing a favored teacher or a cared for but dotty old aunt. Not that Haruka has actually had either of those in a long, long time, but still. She's pretty sure what that feeling would be like.]
