Audio/Action | The ship | Monday before the riots
[Currently a petite strawberry-blonde teen is clutching the pendant hanging from a ribbon around her neck as she scuttles between hiding places in the ship and stares with wide-eyed curiosity mixed with finite fear at the names located on the other pods located all around her. Yes, she is looking for specific names and is both dreading and hoping she might come across one she recognizes. There are thousands of pods here, however, and the fingers of her other hand begins to clutch more firmly at the small device she found with her clothing where she had first awoken. After a short hesitation, Chloe presses a button and brings the device to her lips.]
H-hello?
[A hesitating pause, then Chloe seems to find her courage--and outrage.]
Wh-whoever is in charge here, I really don't appreciate being left in the dark. Where am I, and why am I here? Wh-where is my Aunt Lauren, Derek, and the others? Haven't you done enough? Just l-leave us alone!
[If she was thinking clearly, she would realize the Edison Group never would have left Chloe her Swiss Army knife or can of mace... But she was kind of freaking out after waking up naked and without her pendant around her neck.]
Or else.
[Those two words sounded almost like a growl--something Chloe may have loosely picked up from her werewolf boyfriend. Despite the threat, her panicked mind silently taunted her: 'Or else what, Chloe?']

[Action]
He pauses in the doorway, head canting slightly in amusement that is, perhaps, just a little bit impressed by the human girl's spirit, if not necessarily by her sense.]
Or else what?
[The words are in English, but the flanged voice is distinctly inhuman, and Garrus himself - well. Nearly seven feet tall, digitigrade, with tridactyl hands tipped with sharp claws, and a face that looks like it belongs to an unholy cross between a hawk, a cheetah, and a preying mantis, he'd be unnerving looking even without the heavy armour and the weaponry mag-clipped to his back.]
Not that I'm in charge, but I am curious.
[Action]
Wh-wh-who are you?
[Apparently that mattered more than answering his question about her ill-made threat. Her mind blanks as she tries to rationalize what it is she's seeing. Ghosts, sure. Aliens and possibly being abducted on some kind of space ship? So not what Chloe wanted to experience in her young life. The odd looking being before her didn't mind chatting, however, and if he was talking, he wasn't killing, so maybe she'd get through this alive.]
[Action]
Easy, I'm not planning to hurt you. My name's Garrus. What's yours?
[Action]
I--I'm Chloe. Where am I and--
[And what are you? She wanted to ask it, but even through her fears she didn't want to be rude. She had so many questions. Was she really so far away from home? Were the people in these pods being experimented on? What was going on here? Taking a deep, steadying breath, Chloe attempted to push all her fears aside and focus on what was most important. Obviously someone here would have answers.]
Why did I just wake up on a space ship when I don't remember ever getting on in the first place?
[With a sweeping gesture, Chloe motioned to all the pods around them.]
And what's going to happen to all these people?
[Action]
[Garrus sighs, lifting one hand to scrape a knuckle over the silvery scars along the right side of his face. The gesture's almost unconscious, like a bad habit he hasn't quite shed.]
The prevailing theory is that this is a rescue ship. Something happened to knock you out of phase with your reality, and Salvation retrieved you. The same thing happened to everyone here. Those pods are medical stasis bays - they're all live, so the people inside are fine. The ship isn't - we've crash-landed on a human colony world. So far, the people here have been happy to let us stay.
[Action]
Everyone? So that means you were picked up by this ship, too? Salvation?
[Sounds more like a setting to a sci-fi movie to Chloe, but if she's learned anything this past year, it's that things aren't always as black and white as one may think. And he did say human colony. Did that mean almost everyone here was human? Did it make Garrus feel ostracized at all, if he was a minority? That didn't sit well with her.]
I--I'm sorry. You probably have dozens of people asking all kinds of questions and threatening all kinds of things when they 'wake up.' It's not your fault we're all here. It's going to take some getting used to, though. I still have over a hundred questions.
[Suddenly her throat closed up, and her vision began to blur. Taking a deep breath, Chloe fiercely attempted to keep any and all tears at bay as thoughts about her family, Derek, and the others flooded her mind. They were okay. Had to be okay. She'd search for their names here one by one--however long it took--even if it was just to come to terms with the fact that they...might not be here. Her eyes darted to the pods near her, but she couldn't read the names through her blurred vision.]
[Action]
[Garrus lopes forward, crossing the distance from the chamber's door to rest his hands on Chloe's shoulders, as much so that he can catch her if she collapses as to offer what scant comfort a stranger from an entirely different species can. He'd seen the reaction often enough during the Reaper War, and while the circumstances may be drastically different, losing your world is still losing your world.]
It's going to be okay. Once this ship's spaceworthy again, we can work on getting everyone back where they belong.

[The voice on the other end is impossible to tell whether it's male or female. It does sound a little amused, but not really malicious.]
Whoever you think you are talking to, you are not. You're in another universe, because yours was damaged in some hard to explain way, and those people who 'have done enough' to you probably aren't here.
[Almost as an afterthought, she adds,]
My name is Tenoh Haruka. I'm from Japan, in the nineteen hundred and ninety decade. Who are you?
[Audio]
[Curiosity and confusion swiftly turn into denial and paranoia. Another universe? Hers being damaged inexplicably? Enemies suddenly gone when Chloe wakes up in a place like this one? A crazed little giggle escapes her before she can fully hold it in.]
N-n-nineteen ninety Japan?
[There is definitely a somewhat hysterical note to Chloe's question, despite her trying to remain outwardly calm. 'I'm in a looney bin. They think I'm crazy again, or something. Maybe I've really lost it.']
H-hi. Nice to meet you. I'm Chloe, from the U.S. I come from the twenty-first century.
[And those words sounded so small to her, and suddenly Chloe's dazed mind wondered if she really was the freak.]
[Audio]
[There's that good-natured amusement. It might even be a little bit flirty. Just a little.]
But now I do know your name. Chloe-san. You will not be the first one from further in time than I am.
[She's a little more sober when she asks:]
Are you all right? Do you need someone to come lead you out of the ship? Ah-- that place full of pods where you are. If you are still there. It is a little like a maze at times, I know.
[The echoing quality of the audio makes it seem like she's in the ship, but Haruka figures she could be wrong, too.]
[Audio]
[Well that made more sense than it didn't.]
I--I won't?
[Blood was rushing through her ears. Something big or strange was definitely going on here, and Chloe was almost too frightened to find out which. If she had been admitted, how would she ever get out? This Haruka person seemed nice enough, however. Chloe couldn't tell if she was speaking to a guy or a girl, but the relaxed manner of voice was oddly comforting.]
I'm fine. I think I can find the exit on my own. I just--
[It might take her a minute. Or a day. Or many days for her mind to wrap around what was really happening here.]
H-Haruka? Can I ask you a question? Why are there so many pods here? What do you think is going to happen to all these people?
[Audio]
[She pauses for a beat, considering whether Chloe really is "fine", and then there's the sound of furniture moving in the background that says she doesn't actually believe it.]
I'll come get you. At least I can show you where the Flop is and who to talk to if you want a job, and maybe it will be easier to answer questions when you can see me.
[Audio]
[Yeah, Chloe will say she's fine until her face turns blue--whether it's mostly true or not.]
Oh. Okay. Only if it isn't any trouble.
[It would be nice not to be alone. Could she trust this stranger, however? Was this Tenoh Haruka human, or something more? At least she'd have her own personal tour guide.]
The Flop? A j-job? H-how long do you think everyone is going to be staying? I need to get back...

Hey there. Just woke up?
[Action]
[Action]
[Action]
Wh-what if some people never wake up? Do you think that's a remote possibility?
Re: [Action]
[She's quite confident. They've made so much progress on the ship already, even if there was still a lot to be done]
[Action]
[Chloe senses that confidence.]
H-how are you so sure?
...You should be careful doing it, and wake them in increments. Otherwise there might be mass confusion.

[He turned when he hears the footsteps behind him, someone else in this room. The turn had a soft hydraulic sound to it, pistons shifting, and he rose to his feet. ]
Trust me, if you find out who's responsible, you're going to have to take a number.
[After Alex. If he leaves anything left.]
Action! :D
Take a number?
[A small, secretive smile tugs the edges of her lips. Even if someone got to the person behind whatever was going on before her, at least Chloe could summon the person's spirit to her heart's content until every question she had was answered. No one needed to know about that little ability, however. Not yet. Hopefully not ever.]
I take it there's a long line? Just save me a little something, and I'll be happy.
Action! :D
[Not him, though.]
Though, honestly...I just want to go home.
[He'd spare the rough justice if it meant he could see Clara again.]
Name's Alex, by the way.
Action
[Chloe hoped she never experienced that. It would feel too much like turning her back on her Aunt. On Derek, and Simon, and Tori. Mr. Bae. Her voice was incredibly small a moment later.]
Me too.
[Offering a smile, Chloe couldn't help but admire the fact that he didn't seem like the sort to forget where he came from--and all he might have to go back to.]
It's nice to meet you. I'm Chloe.
Action
[It's not as rhetorical a question as it might sound. In the back of his mind, Alex is wondering--worrying, really--how the neurosuppression had effected him. Was he thinking normally yet?]
Where are you from?
Please tell me it's somewhere normal.
Action
I'm from Buffalo, New York. [A somewhat humored smile lights her face--the first bout of humor she's felt since waking up here.]
Is that 'normal' for you, or do you come from some far off place?
