If anyone needs a place to stay, I have extra space in the flat above my shop. I have some protective charms up, so it should be fairly safe.

Mostly spells against fire and reinforcing the windows against things people might throw. Nothing really impressive.

Ours is pretty straightforward. You just need to know the spell and have a wand that matches you properly.

What happens if you try using the wrong wand? It doesn't work?

Spells go wrong. It can be dangerous. Some wands are very particular about who uses them. Others work fine even if they get passed down through families. A lot of it depends on what they're made of.

I take it that means they're not just made of wood. Which is what my guess would have been.

It's wood wrapped around a core material. Unicorn hair, phoenix feather and dragon heart string are the most common. The one I use now is cherry wood with unicorn hair.

Is it really so easy to come by such creatures in your land, that their parts can be used so...commonly?

Dragons mostly live on reserve pretty far from where humans do because they're hard to hide. Unicorns and phoenixes are common enough though. THere aren't that many wizards.

All those creatures are incredibly rare in my own world. And...considered somewhat sacred.

Harming a unicorn is a terrible thing to do. We get the hair off trees when it's shed, there's a herd near my school. Phoenix feather's probably the rarest because they don't donate them very often. And we wait for the dragons to die naturally.

That's reassuring. Not that I was accusing you of anything personally, it's just that I know it's in the nature of some out there to harm anything they can get their hands on and think nothing of the consequences, if they think it can get them what they want.

It is... there's been a lot of problems with wizards going bad. More than a lot of people want to admit.

What happens when a wizard goes 'bad'? They start using their magic for personal gain?

To... hurt people. They go after Muggles... or Muggleborns.
