[Neville hasn't always lived alone above the shop. So he figures he might as well open up his home to those who need it.]

If anyone needs a place to stay, I have extra space in the flat above my shop. I have some protective charms up, so it should be fairly safe.

Been long enough?

[That's a bit of an odd way of saying it]

We don't have magic where I'm from. We haven't in at least 700 years. And that's long enough that the stories have started to overtake the truth.

Your wizards have a statute of secrecy too?

No. There aren't any. The Mage Gift died out in Valdemar. Vanyel was the last.

D-died out?

[He hadn't expected that]

Not even... Muggleborns? Children suddenly showing magic out of nowhere?

No. We don't know what happened, but Mage Gift is gone in Valdemar, though, we are learning, it's alive and well in other places. Now, though, Valdemar only has MindGifts.

That's... a strange thought. Most Muggles don't know about wizards at home, but there are still people born with magic among them all the time.

It used to be that way in Valdemar. As I said, we don't know why there are no more mages.

Every time I think I have a handle on all these different worlds, a new thing comes up.

That must be frustrating. I don't think I'll ever figure out anything about other worlds.

I'm figuring some things out, but every time I think I have it something new comes up.

That's still a fair sight better than me.

I'm still not really used to living around people who mostly don't have magic though. There was a lot to learn all at once.

I suppose when one's grown up without it, it does make it somewhat easier.

Wizards mostly keep to ourselves at home, so this has been like seeing an entirely different world.

Well, I can certainly understand that. To me, this is seeing another world.

Well, there's that too. For all of us.

I suppose that is true. Perhaps for some more than others, though.

I don't think anyone is really ready to suddenly get snatched into a different world.

Perhaps not. They didn't even give me any time to pack.

I think I probably got lucky. They took me when I was on my way home from school at the end of term.

How is that lucky?

I was at least carrying a little more than I would have been normally.

Ah. I imagine that would come in handy, yes.

It's better than turning up with nothing but pocket lint, anyway.
