[Video] | Week 65: Monday morning, early

[The view on the screen is not actually Thor's face, but rather mountainous trees and a canyon a little ways below, lit by the just-rising sun. Thor's voice, however, is loud and clear, if a bit shouty-- obviously, he's hovering, Mjolnir whirling above his head.]

Did anyone else see the meteor shower beyond the city, last night? I have found where it should have touched ground, or where some of it should have touched ground, and I see nothing, no damage... except these.

[The view takes a dive, as Thor swoops lower to hold his communicator over the ravine, flying a slow pass over it to record the cluster of separated pods, many of which appear to be empty.]

Was anyone aware of this collection of pods?

I know this is the first that I, at least, have ever heard of them.

[She looks long and hard into the video, frowning. Trying to make something like sense out of all of this.]

Do you think they are what could have fallen from the sky instead?

[Thor takes a little bit to reply, because he takes the time to land at the bottom of the rocky crevice. The view he shows now is himself, with rocky and uneven walls behind him.]

They appear to be pods from the ship, only that are outside the ship. I think. It is possible, perhaps, that the ship is under the earth here, and that is how they have power.

[He makes his way carefully, and with the sound of much shifting dirt and stone, closer to the pods in question.]

Pods? Like the ones that most of us awoke in?

[She's more alarmed now, and wary.]

Thor...be careful. There's no telling what might be down there.

Aye, exactly that, that appears to be what they are.

[He gets to the pod cluster and peers into one.]

This one is empty... the one beside it is not!

It's not? Who - or what - is in it, then?

I cannot see clearly inside.

[Thor turns the camera on the pod, but it's dirty and scratched, and fairly opaque anyway, so there's not much to see beyond "it's a person" and "it's not a skeleton".]

It appears to be someone like the rest of you, however, merely asleep?

[Mulan peers hard, as if she actually believed she could somehow make it out any better than Thor can. Despite not even being there in person.]

I don't know...I wonder.

[She thinks of Belle, vanished and not seemingly returned to the ship. She doesn't know if she dares to hope.]

Maybe this is what becomes of those they refer to as 'the lost'.

That they are in different pods, elsewhere?

[Thor hasn't had much interaction with this "lost" thing, so it's a new theory to him.]

I suppose it is possible. How many are these lost ones? More than two?

I'm not sure, to be honest.

There are only two that appear to have occupants. So unless there are more still buried, I would assume that if there are more than two of these lost ones, then this is not their location.

Maybe. Perhaps you are right.

[So much for that vague hope, then.]

But if that's not who these people are, then...who are they?

They could be like us, people from other realms, simply separate from the ship somehow. Or the ship could be far larger than we even guessed, and it is underneath here, as well.

Stark is coming to have a look. He may be able to learn more.

Maybe. I hope so.

There are so many mysteries and uncertainties here. Things might be safer, if only we could have a better idea what's going on. Why these things keep happening.

Perhaps Salvation herself will have an answer, as well, at least for this.

[It's the only option he can come up with, anyway. The ship does seem to know more than the rest of them.]

She ought to know what has become of part of her own... self.

[If she is the AI of the ship, does that mean the ship is her body? He's not sure of his feelings on that.]

[Luke looks dismayed at this news. The only pods he'd ever seen were the ones on the ship and they often had people inside them.]

No, I thought they were just meteorites. Can you tell if there's anyone inside any of the pods?

[Thor is by this time inching his way across the uneven dirt to get to the pods to check for sure.]

I am not certain these are what fell from the sky. There is no damage, nor marks of impact. They are also quite dirty, rather as if they had been covered by all this loose earth.

Regardless, I believe there are people in one or two. The ones I could see from above appeared empty, but there are several here....

Do you think whatever fell from the sky could have unearthed them? Like a levitation beam or something? Are they sitting at ground level with a lot of loose dirt around them or are they sitting inside holes in the ground?

[Luke's suddenly moving around as if he's gathering things and then heading for the door. He needs to see this for himself.]

Perhaps.

[Thor stops to look up at the canyon walls surrounding him, now, and then turns the camera around to show the area to Luke.]

They are at the bottom of a small ravine, and there is rubble everywhere.

There were some larger ones that broke off from a hold out there, but...that's new.

[Thor has landed, by now, and the view shows a much closer shot of the pods, as Thor makes his way closer to them.]

Perhaps you should come inspect them, Stark. You know more about these devices than I do.

[He hadn't even woken up in one, after all! All he knew was what he'd gleaned from his visits to Jane's.]

Hold on, I'm triangulating your co-ordinates.

[That, coupled with the faintly tinny sound of his voice and the lack of video feed, suggests Thor's not the only one out examining they frankly baffling absence of any debris.]

Very well. I will not leave this position.

[Since he wouldn't want to throw off the triangulation or anything. In the meantime, he is peering into the cloudy glass, trying to see whether the person inside is all right. They don't look like a skeleton, at least.]

[Thor, you take everything so literally.

Still, it's about fifteen minutes before Tony streaks across the sky, pulling a tight loop to shed speed before he drops down toward the ravine.]

[Why yes, yes he does. Thor has by then made a full circuit around the collection of pods and peered into every one, scrubbing at some of the dust and scratches on the glass to try and improve his view. He looks up at the expected sound of Tony's blasters, and waves him down to join him.]

You were out early this morning, as well, I take it.

[Enough debris has been dislodged by whatever rockslide or impact had opened the ravine again that it takes Tony a few moments to find somewhere to set down that won't dislodge a chunk of hillside.]

Yeah. You'd think with that lightshow, there'd be something on my sensors, but it's like the meteorites vanished into thin air. If it's more of those spider things, I'm not going to be happy.

The spiders of bone, do you mean? I have seen nothing that suggests that particular enemy again-- they did not create falling debris, did they? Though perhaps it is something from another aspect of reality, a different one.

[It's as good a theory as any.]

Regardless, this does appear to be where many of them should have fallen.

Depends. Are we assuming their appearance was when they showed up, or when they woke up?

[He's quiet for a moment, attention on the spatial calculations playing across his HUD.]

I don't think it's a coincidence, but the shower definitely didn't leave these here.

But did it uncover them?

[That is Thor's working assumption, even if it has a few holes in it.]

It doesn't seem as if there is damage here, either, though. Not that one would expect from debris from space.

I doubt it. This looks like the work of a rockslide, not a meteor strike. There's no scorching; there isn't even any sign of impact.

[Which is about where his explanation for the phenomenon bottoms out, just now.]

Then either their location is a coincidence, or perhaps one of the ones from the now-empty pods are at fault. Only two of these are occupied.

[He gestures to each one in turn.]

Though I do not know enough of this technology to tell whether they even still function properly. They do appear to have power.

Or the other pods were never occupied. There are plenty of empty ones on the ship.

[Which, given the sleeper population on the ship, really does raise the question of just how bad Salvation's creators had expected things to get.

Not to mention how bad they really did get while she was offline.]

Oh. I actually had been unaware of that. Then it is entirely possible that these were empty-- is there any way to tell?

[He pokes at one of the currently empty ones, leaning in to examine it for some kind of sign. He explains his interest as:]

If there are people from these pods, they may not have been told what is happening, and could be lost.

They would've had a hard time wandering off much before now. The rockslide looks recent.

[Still, Tony picks his way over, cautious of the shifting terrain, to examine the pods more closely.]

It doesn't look like they broke off from the main chambers of the ship. See how they're clustered? It looks like the container they were in was a lot smaller.

And yet, the container is not here. What could it be? Does Salvation have detachable parts or companion vessels that might have pods in them?

[It seems a bit silly to think she does. Why would any kind of shuttle or scout vessel have pods in them?]

Nothing I've seen, but most of the ship's still buried. It could be an escape pod. Salvation might tell us if we ask her about it.

Ah, then perhaps we should do that. At the least, she ought to be made aware of them, if she is not already.

[And as he's pretty much uncertain what else he might do here, he's completely prepared to go do that, himself.]

Good idea. If it's a prison vessel, I'd rather know before we start digging the rest of it out.

[Hey, it could be one.]

[Thor eyes the pods skeptically.]

It seems as though there would be more security if it was for a prison. But! I will go ask her, if I can make contact. Will you remain here and investigate further?

Yeah, I'll stick around here for a while.

[Crashed podlike things are just so interesting.]

Very well. I should not be long, unless Salvation is avoiding me!

[It makes no matter to him, so long as he can find Tony later with his answers. He flashes the man a quick grin, then swings Mjolnir and is off.]
