[ Early afternoon on Thursday, particularly psychically susceptible people might suddenly feel an agonizing, splitting pain down the center of their skull. Psychic overload, if any of them have experienced it before, drowning in a stream of information too much for one person to handle.

Brief impressions: the ship, no, the other ship, go back for them, four more, woke them up, the first, the first.

The contact cuts off as abruptly as it was made. ]

[ The contact doesn't resume until minutes later, when there is a quiet, clumsy apologetic touch, and a soothing feeling spreading through her mind. ]

[ The mental touch pushes, chasing the thread of that last question, trying to find its source.

It's a violation, but Charles is off-balance enough, violated enough himself, that he doesn't care. ]

[Where the last few psychic touches he'd encountered were gentle brushes, this is like a punch to the face. He grabs his head with his hands although that doesn't stop the pain. By the time it ends he feels dizzy and ill. He's also sitting in an ungainly sprawl on the floor, although he doesn't remember falling.]

Could he be wrong? Did they somehow take him back to probe him again? ]

[Rush's mind does not soothe easy. The panic does ease. But the fact someone is in his mind doesn't sit well. He's unfortunately not very receptive to the apology or the soothing no matter how good the intention. He closes off everything he can and pushes at the other mind.]
