But he's grinning into the camera.]

Definitely.

[Luke's looking a bit more confident than he has been, but this is the first time he's used the network in over a month so he keeps his answer brief. He's heard about the satellites and he's wanted in on the research for a long time. It's time to stop hiding.]

[Which is definitely not a plan to get Luke out of the house or anything.]

Turns out academics get downright chatty with the right combination of coffee and alcohol at the right times of day.

[For a moment Luke observes the background behind Wes in the video feed.]

What, to a bar?

[That confidence he had before is fading fast. Luke is still a bit wary about running into angry people in the street but spending a whole evening in a place where people might be angry and drunk? He may not be ready for that.]

[After another short moment to think it over Luke finally nods. If he were going to be there by himself that's one thing but he'll feel a lot safer with Wes around.]

[Luke likes space stuff and this sounds like just his kind of thing. Wes, you know his weakness. He smirks in resignation.]

I'll head out in a bit. Where is this place?

[From the backdrop, Kaidan is out at the ship and somewhere deep within a maintenance tunnel. One of the smaller versions of the ship's surviving repair robots is currently trying to work somewhere behind his head and having minor difficulties clinging to the wall.]

I want to be sitting in that bar, but you know I'm all ears anyway. Let me know if you need me to scramble the feed a bit.

Might be a thought. The academics have been busy. And can be made chatty.

[The feed fuzzes briefly, as Kaidan makes a few adjustments, and then settles back with a contented grunt at his own handiwork.]

So, ah, are we talking bribes of coffee or of alcohol? I take it the one we hauled back's been getting some attention, or is this the astronomers having a field day?

So, is this new satellite information of the kind that might help us see space again without having to play dodge the laser blast?

Hopefully. They've managed to work out a bit about how they work and how the grid comes together.

Way I see it, the more people who know this stuff, the better the chance of someone being able to use it.

Can they actually be used? What sort of shape are they in?

We're more interested in figuring out how to work around them. So we still need to figure out what sort of state the ones in orbit are in.

I don't think we've had the pleasure of meeting, but anything that gets us off this planet is absolutely of interest to me.

[ outside of the 'major,' his credentials mean little to her, but a military credentials exchange is pretty much always the same regardless of if it entirely makes sense to you or not. fast-talking turians taught her that one. ] Planets are just asking for trouble. [He salutes the camera out of habit at the word Admiral. They had managed to instill some notion of military discipline in him.

And then he scrambles the signal out of far stronger habit.]

Verdana has a spacefaring history. And one legacy is a network of defensive satellites. One of them crashed a few months back, and the academics have been having a field day.

I can imagine. Defence satellites can come in handy for more than just defence. [ like intel. or communications. or who knows what else depending on the civilization. tali's pretty sure she doesn't need to add it. ]

Do we -- people from the ship, I mean -- have access to it? Or is it local eyes only?

They've been pretty cooperative about giving information on it so far. I figure we can sweet talk them with enough coffee.

[They certainly haven't said he can't unleash spaceship engineers on it]
