Video: Friday, Week 73

[No one who knows Wes will be terribly surprised to see that the background of the video feed shows a local bar. LIstening to angry drunks? Just plain drinking? That's the trick isn't it?

But he's grinning into the camera.]

So, any of you spacey types want to hear more about the satellites?

[After another short moment to think it over Luke finally nods. If he were going to be there by himself that's one thing but he'll feel a lot safer with Wes around.]

Alright. I'll see if I can find someone to walk with me.
last_ofthe_jedi: (esb: is that so)

Right, fair enough.

[Luke likes space stuff and this sounds like just his kind of thing. Wes, you know his weakness. He smirks in resignation.]

I'll head out in a bit. Where is this place?

[He nods.]

I know the place. Alright, I'll see you soon.

[Luke arrives pretty quickly. He really didn't want to take his time walking through town. As he enters the bar he keeps his head down and immediately seeks out Wes, finding him at a table near the back and taking a seat next to him.]

Hey. I left the safety of my cave for this. It'd better be good.

[He's smiling to let Wes know that was a joke, he's not quite that bad. It was an attempted jab at himself, mostly to lighten his own mood.]
last_ofthe_jedi: (esb: you think you're so funny)

[Luke squints and stares at a spot on the table for a moment as he tries to remember. That was a while ago.]

Yeah, I think so. Let me guess, someone's been reverse-engineering it.

[Luke wonders to himself about the "our people" part.]

This sounds like a lot of work for science types. What would my role be in all this?
last_ofthe_jedi: (esb: calling you out)

My expertise is in ships, droids, and moisture vaporators. [He smirks at Wes' confidence in his abilities. It's not that he's clueless, he just doesn't have that much experience with satellites in particular. Still, he has a couple ideas just based on his time in the military and his own common sense.]

Well, the controls would have to be triangulated with the satellite in one way or another. Do we know if the satellite had its own controls or did it share them with all the others?
last_ofthe_jedi: (rotj: that's how it's done)

[Luke chuckles. The Alliance did tend to be pretty lax about things... which is probably how Luke became a commander before he even turned nineteen. Well, part of the reason. He'll gladly take some of the credit. You don't blow up the Death Star and have nothing to show for it.]

There might be a couple ways to do it, then. The individual controls could be found by locating those of the other satellites, assuming they're evenly placed and assuming they could be located. If the other satellites are active we might be able to detect and track their signal patterns down to the planet's surface.

As for the main controls it might be a similar method. It would mean that all the satellites communicate basic controls with each other and, assuming we can follow the triangulated signal, track it back to the main console. Even if we don't have direct access to them the other satellites could teach us a lot about the one we have, if we can find the right equipment.

I know that's a lot of ifs but that would be the obvious answer to me and it's where I'd start looking.
