[Kaylee was decided not on the ship when Jane woke back up. From the dark circles under her eyes, it's clear she hasn't really been getting a lot of sleep recently. But she smiles all the same, even if she's slightly disappointed it wasn't someone else with that face. But Thor will be happy, and Thor deserved to be happy.]

It's good to see you again. It's been... gosh, must be more'n' a year now. A lot's happened.

Kaylee! You're here still? And more than a year here since I left. And years I think back home, since I remember at least two years there. Well.

[she forcibly stops the incipient science babble and peers at Kaylee.]

Like what?

Not even really sure where to start. Lotta strange things with time, space, things comin' through that shouldn't, the locals not bein' too happy for a whole heap of reasons...

[She's jumping around a lot because it's hard to string the whole year together in one sitting. Though right now stringing anything together coherently is hard.]

Sorry, it's a lot and...

[She turns the camera toward a nearby bassinet where a newborn baby is currently sleeping deceptively peacefully]

Kinda got a lot goin' on right now.

[okay, she's a bit too much science to hear her own biological clock, but she's gotta say that's one cute baby]

I can see you've been busy. The baby's adorable. And I'm actually familiar with space and time not acting right. Lucky I woke up now, hmm?

Thanks. Her name's Padme Beru.

[And she's the cutest baby in the world.]

Tony and Kaidan are probably the best ones to talk to. Maybe Doc Solus.

[If only say they can really technobabble each other a lot]

Oh! I remember Padme. Did she leave or she still here?

[Jane hummed a little at the names, remembering them from her previous stay]

They're all still here?

Left, came back, left again.

[There's a note of sadness there]

Wish she coulda met her granddaughter.

It's weird how that happens with some folk and then some of us have just been here this whole time.

[Jane gets a half-abstracted look, one that says

SCIENCE

is being pondered]

So do I. And yeah, you're right about how weird it is. I think I've woken up three times now in the ship.

And sometimes when people wake up, they don't remember bein' here before. The second time Padme was here she didn't even remember she had kids much less being here.

[Of course the first time it had been pretty complicated with the kids...]

And then here I am, for the third time, and I remember being here twice plus what went on back home. The pods probably have something to do with that, I think. I would poke at them, but I think I'll be needed elsewhere.

From my understanding of the pods, you may already have made that presentation, but you're only remembering from a certain point in your memories... or it's possible that you're actually exactly from the last time you were in our reality.

[Pepper sighs, as if the untidy state of the multiverse is some failing of a housekeeping service she'd like to send a sharp note to for overburdening poor Salvation.]

It's good to see you back awake, though -- Team Science has been stretched thin, and naturally the stakes have turned out to be a lot higher than we last thought. It's been about a year, more for those who spend a lot of time on Salvation.

[SO UNTIDY. Jane agrees while sighing and fussing with her hair.]

Well, I remember Thor going home to Asgard, then I was shipped to Norway and saw what happened in New York. Then two years later I'm in London with Darcy at my mom's house, and well, I went to Asgard then back to London. And all that's mixed in from what I remember of here.

I... think you're ahead of me, then.

[Pepper looks oddly discomfited by the notion that her reality's carried on without her while she's been having adventures with mammoths here. Even if that's not actually the case.]

We'll have to compare notes some time, but that's not as important now as it should be. We've learned what Salvation was built to do, and what the nature of Verdana is. It's... not good. And it's likely to get a lot more not-good pretty shortly. You woke up again at a very good time.

Oh dear. Um. Did not mean to spoil you. I'll tel everyone once I get settled in. If you want.

[Jane tilted her head and blinked]

Now that I have to hear. And see. Well, once I get off the ship.

I'm not sure that 'no spoilers' really applies to life rather than fiction.

[Pepper's tone is dryly amused.]

Not... that I don't think I've been trapped in some tween's comic book at times over the past few years. I converted the second apartment into hostel space, which you're welcome to, but I expect you're probably going to be spending more time out at the ship.

Well, there is the possibility of changing timelines, and having to deal with future problems when you haven't done it yet. That's not a good thing.

[And Jane's just getting warmed up! She giggles a bit at the comic book line.]

I should point out not just tweens read comic books, but I see your point.

a small shrug and sigh. So inconvenient to eat and sleep when there is SCIENCE to be done.]

Well, Thor might have an objection or two if he thinks I'm not getting enough food or sleep.

[Pepper's amusement is dry, yet absently fond.]

Oh dear. My father had a bunch of them, too. He was a bit of a fan.

[oh blush]

[The dark, glossy metal that provides a backdrop makes it clear that Tony's on the ship.

Where on the ship is the real question. Certainly not somewhere that was open the last time Jane was awake.]

You'll make it. Time travel, remember?

The universe might be ending. I'll fill you in on the details if Thor doesn't accidentally crush you before I get the chance.

Um. That doesn't look like a part of the ship I've seen before. [she sighed a bit in relief at hearing Thor was here still.]

Well, it nearly ended back home, but I fixed that. Pepper said the same thing, so we'll call a symposium, okay, and everybody can fill me in, and we'll see from there.

We have a few more systems online. I'll give you the tour.

[There's a pause, as he digests the rest of what she's said.]

...And you can give me the disaster update from home. If you've already seen what we're dealing with, that might give us a leg up.

Oh lovely. I'll wait until Thor gets here, since he might be a bit peeved if he has to look for me.

[she nods]

Well as much as I can. I don't want to mess up any timelines back home. Just in case.

[Here, have a wide-eyed and grinning Asgardian, Jane.]

Jane! Jane, you awoke! Where are you?

[Because he will fly there in a second, just watch.]

Still on the ship, Thor. Hi. I'll stay put. Um. I have a few things to tell you when you get here, and I'm sure you've got a lot of things to fill me in on, right?

[She was going to tread lightly. She wasn't about to tell him his mom died, and his brother too, but she can tell him about defeating a mighty enemy and saving the universe. Again.]

It has been a long time, so yes, I imagine so. I will be there shortly!

[And he will. He actually ditches his patrol with a quickly radioed apology to his superior officer, and flew there as fast as his hammer could fly him. He comes pounding into the pod chamber he's been visiting for months, now, since her repodding, expecting her there.]

[and she's there, and awake, and poking at her device, looking up at Thor's arrival with a smile]

Thor! I'm awake now.

[He doesn't even exactly bother with a greeting. There's just a bright, relieved smile, and then he's scooping her up into a tight hug. And at least, without his powers here on the ship, he's at no risk of actually smashing her on accident.]

[she appreciates not being squashed too much. And even without his powers he gives good hugs.]

I think you missed me?

Do you think so?

[Thor laughs a little, putting her down but not letting her go. He ends the laugh, though, by leaning down to press a firm kiss to her mouth.]

[Well that answered her question, or she would have said so if she wasn't busy being kissed by Thor and kissing him back]

[They come up for air again soon enough, though Thor isn't letting her go any time soon.]

Have you been sleeping all this time? Were you gaining new memories? Some who have slept have woken remembering new things, or changed in other ways.

[He has one hand around her waist and the other holding her hand, but now he's looking her over, as if afraid she might have changed, herself.]

[she smiles up at him. She did miss him, and well, he missed her.]

Well. I learned new things, yes. And Asgard's a beautiful place.

[She's seen the entire universe and visited two other realms besides Earth. But other than that? Nothing's changed physically. No physical side effects of her stint as the host for the Aether.]
