I'm now staying somewhere else. But if necessary, I can still be reached by the communication system. [If Dylan wants to announce where they're living, he can. But Mr. Paranoid Bastard isn't about to publicly give a location.]

As an aside, does anyone here know how to play chess or any other strategy games that might be available? Are there any musicians from the ship?

[He very desperately needs to learn about the local culture. There must be more than "the Authorities are terrible people and want to render us impotent". Survival situations or not, these people have lived here for a very long time and must have something unique and exclusive to them. They're obviously not barbarians or savages.]

Also, do either of the pilots of the ships that have crashed need assistance?

[Nietzschean style proclamation of friendly interest. He wouldn't offer if he didn't like them.]

I made a set. I've been working on it since the storm front moved in.

[He needed something to occupy himself with at the shelter.]

[He smiles at that, pleasantly surprised, then muses,]

It's been...a while, since I played last.

Then I suspect we could both use the practice. [His game of preference for the past few years has been Go.]

My father always wished I were more enthusiastic. And then once I was old enough to appreciate it, I didn't really have the time.

Is 'somewhere else' still close enough to the city? There's a building here that would serve - [a roughly sketched map, with a star over the mostly-reclaimed building, still set up with crates and planks for a chairs and a table from Daniel's breakfast with Erik.]

Or I could walk out to the ship, or another midway point, if that's easier.

[He leaves and references the map that Daniel gave him to find his way to where he's staying. He has his board under his arm and the pieces in a cloth bag.

He knocks when he arrives a short bit later, and stands oh-so-formally outside as he waits.]

[Daniel tugs the door open, careful of the slight skewed hinges, a knife held casually in his other hand. It's obviously not where he lives, but it's not a random ruin, either. A few coals glow gently in a rough stone-and-grate brazier, and a loaf of bread and a strip of jerky lie half-carved into neat slices on the makeshift table.]

Nice to see you again.

[He ducks his head in a neat gesture, as though he'd be doffing his hat if he had one, and he sits back down.]

Toasted or plain?

[As always there's a hint of teasing in her tone.]

And just what kind of assistance were you offering, Commander?

Gotta track down my Viper first. That'll take an excursion out into the wilds. But I was thinking of looking into trying to get a hovercraft functional. So yeah, if you're up for a scavenge later, I'm your girl.

Right now, though? I'm more in the mood for games.

[There's a slightly harder, more challenging edge to her voice now.]

[Off on his end of the comm unseen, he raises one eyebrow high enough to make a Vulcan blush. He's never been one to back down from a good challenge.]

I'll meet you by the Flop and show you the rest of the way.

Sounds like a plan.

[When Rhade gets to the Flop, Kara will be waiting outside. She hasn't announced that she's moved yet, so this meeting place is as good as any. Tucked under her arm is a bottle of 'shine.]

I'm good with spam! I just for some reason left you a psychic reply last night.

[He shows up shortly, with his chess board under his arm. And then brows at the booze, but... well, if he's going to teach her chess, he can always teach her again if she gets so drunk she forgets. She seems to holder her booze well usually, though.]

You look perturbed. [He is a man that would use the word "perturbed".]

[She raises a brow at him in return.]

What makes you say that? And weren't you gonna show me the way?

[He nods. He was going to stop and talk, but- well, perhaps talking wasn't of interest at the moment. He gathers himself up and... steals a drink first. Because it's there.]

This way. Have you noticed anything interesting lately?

[Dylan comes in from fetching water from the well and sets the water away in a safe place. Then he goes to his room.

There's a Go board in there. A handmade Go board and two bowls of smooth stone pieces, one full of pale stones, the other dark.

He smiles and calls out:]

Gaheris, I think the Go fairy left me something.

Oh, of course you'd blame it on magic. [He sounds teasing from his room. He doesn't know what else to do now that he's finished his gift, so he's been working at replacing the floor. But now that he knows Dylan is back he goes to see what he thinks of it.

This he was working on at the same time as his chess board, but he had to hide it at the Flop.]

Are you going to tell me that it evolved this way through competition with other game boards? [Dylan is grinning teasingly. Then drops the act.]

[He tries not to toothy grin and has to purse his lips, making his smile tight and inadvertently sheepish. He actually swipes his hand down his mouth as if he's wiping his expression before he settles it to something merely smirky.]

Much of superiority is through effort as well as evolution. So if you want to make sure it's adequately practiced, you'll know where to find me.

[Evening Go sessions used to be a regular thing. Dylan misses it.]

In the meantime, I made a chess board [And he's a social animal and likes games] and if you would like to meet somewhere, I will bring it.
