A New Arrival

[The video comes on to a young man in his mid-twenties. Fit, tanned, and very attractive, his eyes - a bright sea-green color - are confused and he seems to be struggling to hold his concentration on the task at hand - which is operating the handheld device that he found in his room. He's dressed only in what appears to be a pale greenish hospital gown, and is making no particular effort to hold it closed. He looks rather lost, and perhaps too confused to even really be afraid. His eyes have circles under them, and a telltale puffiness that gives away that he's been crying recently, and perhaps for some time. He looks into the device finally, his eyes focusing for the most part]

Can someone tell me where I am? I don't think this is Thirteen anymore...did the Capitol get us?

I...I just...

[He trails off, distracted by a piece of rope he holds in his hands, quickly tying several knots before looking back at the screen]

Yeah, thanks in advance.

[the Doctor takes a moment to look him over, concern clear in his face, before speaking softly] You're on a world called Verdana. I doubt the Capitol can reach you here.

A...different world.

[He's too out of it for that to hit him with the impact that it probably should. He blinks a couple of times, ties a few knots in his rope, then looks back at the device.]

Huh.

[Another pause, he ties a few knots while worrying his bottom lip]

Any good fishing spots around here?

[Yeah, it's rather a non-sequitur, but he's not exactly operating on all thrusters right now, and the idea of getting away to the water sounds like something that could help put everything into perspective at the moment.]

[his eyes widen at that, before he smiles faintly] There's an inlet filled with all manner of fish, or so I've heard.

It's not far from the city. You may want to stop there first - rest up a tad, get some food.

City? Huh. Yeah, maybe I should. Should probably find something to fish with, too.

[He falls into silence again, staring rather blankly, not really looking like the kind of person who should be wandering anywhere by himself, before snapping slightly out of it again.]

Yeah. Okay, thanks.

[that only deepens his concern, and he makes little effort to hide it] I could show you the way, if you like. I've been meaning to stretch my legs.

[He looks a little surprised, but shrugs. He's not opposed to having company.]

Uh, sure, okay. I'm not...exactly sure where I am, though.

Have you wandered very far from the ship?

Uh...I just kind of woke up and grabbed this phone thing.

You're probably still inside, then. That's where everyone abducted awakes - it's crashed star ship.

Wait...it kidnapped me...then crashed?

I have all sorts of bad luck, don't I?

[He ties a few knots before lowering the rope]

Is there...there's nobody named Annie here, is there?

[his smile is wryly sympathetic] I'm afraid so.

[it fades as he shakes his head] Not that I know of, but I haven't met everyone quite yet.

[Finnick sighs, and turns back to his rope]

Figures.

[He ties a few more knots before looking up again]

Thanks, though...and if...if you hear about any girls named Annie arriving, would you let me know?

Of course. Is she a friend?

She's my wife.

And I need her.

[his expression is - oddly poignant, for a moment, before he nods]

Of course. I'll keep a look out.

Whether she's here or not, I...hope she's all right. [he'd love to say he's sure, but how could he possibly be?] I'm sure she'd want you to be seen to, in the meantime.

Yeah...but it's really hard, you know?

Neither of us really do well without the other around. We just don't.

[the Doctor nods; it's not something he's felt, not for a long time, but he can still be understanding] All you can do is try.
