[ So, since she's the last survivor of Krypton with her cousin and that clone, she's taking a wild guess no one will answer her if she talks in her native tongue. Instead she puts out a text post. ]

< I... where am I?

This isn't Earth, is it?

.... You can understand this, right? I played with this device a little to see how it works. It says that it has a translating function on it. I can't be sure if my words are going through well or not since I don't know the language.

Thank you.* >

This planet is named Verdana. I have no idea where it is located in relation to Earth.

I'm sure there are a number of theories already circulating. But nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

We're on an alien planet. Even the locals aren't entirely certain as to why we're here.

You've been abducted and taken to other worlds before?

You aren't originally from Earth.

And is interplanetary travel commonplace amongst those from Krypton?

Then those answers you found related to why you were sent to Earth as opposed to how.

I'm afraid not, no. Did you awake on the ship?

And may I ask what you're translating from? I know quite a few languages.

Kryptonian - no, I'm afraid not. I am, however, a fast learner.

Can I ask where you're from? [it isn't a language of Earth, he knows that much]

As is my own world.

[he's hearing of entirely too many unknown planets, all told]

Have you enjoyed your time on Earth? I'm quite fond of it, myself.

Yes - Gallifrey.

I'm sorry to hear that. There's a great deal of good to be found there, but...just as much malevolence. Like most worlds, really.

Certainly not Earth, unfortunately.

Only that it must have been for a purpose. Of some kind.

Quite, but it can't be helped. I don't plan on adhering to anyone else's agenda, if that helps.

Kara. Good to meet you. You awakened on the ship, am I right to say that?
femshep: (I'm listening.)

[personal profile] femshep 2012-04-29 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
[The newcomer's already had the tour, so to speak, so Shepard's holding off for a minute and then sending a text back:]

Any chance you'd give me some of that out loud? I'm a little curious to see if my translator'll pick it up.
femshep: (look out now)

[personal profile] femshep 2012-04-30 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
It's either glitching or not in the system. So I have to ask: Who are you?

[Who is she, what is she, why isn't her language one of the thousands in Shepard's translator's system--even some of the other non-Citadel languages here are vaguely translatable, in a bits-and-pieces grasping-at-straws kind of way.]
femshep: (denial)

[personal profile] femshep 2012-05-02 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[Shepard's fortunate to have spent her whole life with the translator chip--she's never quite had to feel the way Kara's feeling right now.]

Don't take it personally. Not too many people know much about life outside of the known galaxy.
