[Claire has been missing for a while now, and she's completely disoriented about waking up in the spaceship...

Again.

The pod opens and the petite blonde crawls out, first confused, and then hit with a wave of unmanageable terror. How long had she been in there? Had she skipped hundreds or thousands of years again? Is everyone already long dead and gone?

Hyperventilating and scrambling to the exit, Claire steps out into the rain. If no one is at the ship, she'll be sprinting down to the town to find someone she recognizes. Anyone. Anyone at all.]

[Claire still looks reasonably startled, but the stubbornness in her is keeping it as hidden as possible. She has the look on her face like one does when they are being brave because they have to be.]

Okay.. [She takes a shallow, sharp breath.] How long have I been gone?

((OOC: The answer is weeks to a month. Anyway, Claire's back now and I am looking to get her involved in plots again. Everyone I dropped threads with, please send me a PM, IM, or plurk and lemme know what you want to do with them. <3 SO glad to be back. Sorry everyone. ;_;))

[She cares because she feels betrayed. The 'who' matters because she needs to know who to trust.]

I heard about that. Did it affect you?

[Wing gives an easy shrug.] I am no tactical commander. But it seems logical.

Loki is conducting an experiment. And others, I believe, are working on trying to stabilize the ship.

...can I ask what happened?

[Suspicious-face.] What kind of experiment?

[She pauses, looking a little troubled. Claire shrugs.] I don't really know. I woke up in my pod again.

He can apparently create a space bridge.

[Wing sounds impressed, but believing.]

You don't recall returning to the pod? Can I ask what your last memory was?

[ A hesitation -- but, then, how often has stopping himself done any good?

He steps closer and takes her shoulders in his hands. ]

It's all right. Claire, yes? It's all right. The world hasn't abandoned you. I promise.

...it was a change of pace.

You're the first. [And she doesn't sound entirely pleased by that. Like whoever brought them here's changing the game without telling them the rules.]

[She nods, thinking in silence for a moment, hard lines showing on her face.] Then I hope I'm the last.

At least none of my things are missing.

[Space bridge sounds very sci-fi to her. Too sci-fi. She's talking to a giant sentient robot and space bridge sounds too out there.] What's a space bridge supposed to be?

I don't. I remember falling asleep in my room. Then I woke up in there.

[Oic.]

What did it do?

[Claire sighs a little, still not looking at Charles. Not until he says that. At his words she looks right up at him, a short show of real vulnerability on her face. On the inside she feels appreciative for his efforts, but in strict denial that he has any idea what it feels like to be like her.

Then she's suspicious. Because it was almost like he could read her mind. Her eyebrows scrunch together and she's scanning his face and eyes, as if looking for a hidden object there.

Claire thinks as loud as she can, repeating the question a few times for good measure: Can you hear me?]

[Thanks to Sherlock, Claire's a little suspicious about who put her in that pod. He seems to think it was David. Claire isn't sure.

Still, she smiles mildly.]

[felt about things before coming over, so we have an excuse for the delay. Also it's Daniel, not David. <3]

We never did get to have that talk. Are you okay?

No. We didn't.

[Claire looks a little.. Off.]

Look. We should talk. If you're free now.

[And she's not answering if she's okay, which means she's not. He's even more concerned now, but sadly not surprised. He nods.]

I am. Tell me where to show up, I'll bring lunch.

[The offer of place is important to him, the willingness to go wherever she feels comfortable, if she has such a place here.]

[A safe place here? No such thing. But Claire does have a place on a hill closer to the alien ship with a good view of the old city that she goes to.]

There's a hill up near the ship. I'll be easy to spot.

[Comfortable, not safe. Sometimes the lack of the latter makes the former all the more precious. And while the idea makes him feel terribly exposed -]

I'll be there.

Chemical weapon, designed to cause confusion. Stray cloud, probably left over from previous battles. We thought it might have been a precursor to another attack from the Authorities.

[ He flinches. Visibly flinches, at the volume of her thoughts, and, well, that makes it difficult to hide from there on out. ]

I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to intrude.

..Oh. That sounds bad.

I don't know if I would have been affected, so maybe I wasn't spared from anything at all.

[When he flinches, she knows. Claire's surprised, that's for sure, but she's also hiding a burst of excitement. She smiles serenely.]

It's okay. I know how- I know people who can do that.

[No longer attempting to control her thoughts, there's only one thing ringing clear in her mind. You're like me. You're like me.]

You're, uh, Charles, right?

[Claire's there, standing on the top of the hill, arms crossed. She's wearing a white shirt and jean shorts, her bare feet a little dusty and dirty from walking around with no shoes on today. But otherwise she looks fine, good even.

Except for the look of concentration, suspicion, and worry showing up in the corners of her lips and the curves in her eyebrows.

She waits for Daniel as she said she would. Visible.]
