[On screen Jim is calm, a man clearly used to making announcements and to taking care of himself. He might be a little lacking in spit and polish, but his background of command is probably evident in his air.]

For those I haven't met, my name is James T. Kirk. I'd like to talk about our situation, and what our plans are. I say "our" because I believe it is imperative that those in a similar situation with similar goals band together to achieve them. I don't know why we're here, or where here is. I do know that we stand a better chance at both survival and getting home if we work together.

To that end, I suggest we form exploratory parties to learn as much as we can. About the ship, the surrounding area, and the domes.

Further, I'm willing to share whatever I have. Unfortunately, that's almost nothing and I have nothing to trade but labor. So I'm offering my services as well. You can find me at the provided housing, for the time being.

I am certain that, together, we can get through this.

I wouldn't mind doing it with a team, if the idea is as popular as it seems.

I've been doing the same. But I think that organization confers some benefits, be it for food or information gathering. There's strength in numbers, and there's also no sense in replicating effort.

[Daniel's mouth quirks into a half-smile. There's something earnest about Jim, rattling off simple tactical truths and idealism as if they were always so easily meshed, and Daniel doesn't feel like being the one to point out how meaningless numbers are when they have so little reason to trust each other.]

Mmm. Well, if you've decided to try and shoulder our efforts into something like organization, I'm good with most types of wilderness terrain, and I'm up for it.

[Is the man mocking him? Jim doesn't care--he's seen that look before, but it won't deter him. It doesn't matter why: things need to get done.]

Good. [He nods, as if he'd guessed as much.] And your name, sir?

[It isn't mockery - it's too honest and bittersweet. He'll always have a soft spot for America, and Jim is terribly American.]

[he nods]

I'm set. And if you're doing the rounds - well, I'm not a doctor, but I'm pretty good with field medicine if you find somebody not-fine.
