Hello! Um, I'm told that there are others of you out here that arrived on the ship? Which is pretty interesting! Have any of you investigated it at all? Do we know where it came from? I mean obviously we all got on it somehow—which is another thing to investigate, now that I mention it, because I have like zero memory of that—but if anyone's taken some more diagnostics on it that I was able to do in a few hours I'd love to compare notes! I guess I'd also appreciate if someone could fill me in on the situation out here, since this is... not anywhere near any place I've ever been, based on my GPS.

It seems this planet is unknown to everyone who awoke on the ship. As is the origin of the technology; there are some familiar elements, but it is impossible to tell if those are meaningful or merely a side effect of similar function.

Hm, interesting. I'm looking forward to getting a more in-depth look at it and poking at the systems a bit more. Although—well, I guess I have an engineering degree, but I'm more of a software person than a hardware person, you could say? How about you?

It seems likely that there was some data corruption during the event that caused it to crash. Which is unfortunate; I would dearly like to know who built it, and where they came from.

And no, I'm no engineer. Most of my experience with spaceships comes from travel, not training.

Well, hopefully I will be able to do something about that! I've done data recovery before, so maybe we'll get lucky. In any case, I intend to try.

You've been in a spaceship before? For travel? Are you an astronaut?

Not precisely. My people have been a space-faring culture for several millennia. I take it you are from pre-spaceflight Earth?

Not quite pre-spaceflight, although we haven't ventured far as of yet.

We started sending people into space about half a century ago, maybe...? So it's still very novel for me!

It poses some very interesting philosophical and ethical questions, actually.

Oh, I'm not offended at all! I imagine I'd be the same way talking to someone from, say, the Renaissance. And, of course, I imagine a lot gets left out of history books.

If you feel compelled to not share spoilers, I don't mind, since that's probably best time travel practices, although I think if there are time laws I think whatever brought us here has already broken a good number of them, haha.

I suppose that touches on the most pressing question. Is there any time travel in place, or have we merely all been collected at very different times in very different places, and kept in cryo-stasis so long that it has affected our memories?

That is a good question. I know there are some people who would be able to pull off something like this, but I wouldn't know why they'd do, well, this. I guess it would probably be helpful to ascertain the year relative to our timeframes. If there even is a year relative to our timeframes. If only we could get it out of the ship's computer.

I'm not sure if that would be more or less difficult than determining how long the ship has been here, and advancing from the forwardmost point in time anyone here can recall. I do not recognize the language on the few interfaces I've seen, but we may be able to find a familiar dating system, if someone could get that far into the ship's systems.
