[To say that Pepper's looking like she's been over twenty miles of bad road is really just stating the truth at this point. (And underselling it -- it's been a lot more than twenty miles, all totalled.). Still, she's back in town, her apartment's spartan furnishings visible behind her as she lays claim to a couch that's seen better days but is, blessedly, not a horse.

There remains a businesslike gleam to her eyes all the same: Pepper, it appears, has A Plan.]

I haven't managed death by horse, thanks largely to Captain Rogers and Dr. Banner, and I've got potential good news on the food situation. However, it's not really straightforward, and not really something to discuss over the network.

What I can say is that we've been asked to retrieve some goods as payment, that I have a map, but that it's very old, and that I've been warned about hazards in the location. So, while I can bring this to you, it's not something I can honestly handle myself.

If you're interested in either going along with or leading an expedition to do some treasure hunting, let me know. And if you have experience with translating very old maps, I'd very much like to hear from you. I'll be at my apartment for, um... well, let's just say that not moving sounds like an absolutely amazing idea right now.

And I can't make any promises about the map but I do know basic surveying.

There looks to be a certain level of technological familiarity required. This could be something up your alley, assuming the vault's large enough. Other than that, there could be a niche for aerial surveys, like Chime might end up doing, or transport to and from the site, once it's pinned down.

Any use you have for me I will gladly do.

[He gives a sheepish shrug.] Being not very useful here is...unpleasant.

I can understand that -- I'm not exactly sure what I'd be doing with myself, if there hadn't been things I could start organizing. I don't think I'd make a very good farmer, and I'm certainly no warrior.

What sort of capabiities do you have, in terms of transport capacity? That's one thing the other flight-capable person can't really do much of.

Knowing what you're good at is a wonderful gift, especially when you can apply it to help others.

[That's his belief, at any rate.]

I have limited cargo space but if something could be rigged, I could lift a great deal.

Chime -- he's a member of a species that has wings. Or some of them have wings... it's a little confusing. He can fly, in any case, but he can only carry about one person's weight, and it's tiring to him.

You and he should talk, some time, if you haven't already. And I'll be sure to pass on that information about lifting -- we really have no idea what's in that vault.

I shall have to look out for him: having a flying companion would be...nice.

[Beyond nice actually. He'd really like that.]

And how did we find out about this vault? What's in it? IS it safe?

I was given the information by a woman who owns and sails one of the trading ships that docks at the port town. It's part of a pretty old installation, and she wants the contents of that vault in trade. No idea what's in it.

Which... is a lot more blind than I'd like to be, going into something like this. But in return, she's going to bring us enough grain to feed all of these people over the winter.

She wouldn't send us--you--there if it was safe, Miss Potts. There's a reason she's not going there herself.

[It's simple logic.]

[He nods.] It sounds like a risk worth taking.

That, and she's a sea captain and this is inland. I won't be going on this expedition personally, so all I can really do is share the information I do have, and hope that the team's a good one. I have hopes, at least.

[Somewhat wryly, she concludes that]

It's not like we really have much else of a choice, in any case. I'd prefer to not see a few thousand people starving on my watch.

But she could find a crew not of us outworlders, Miss Potts. All I'm saying is to be careful, but it sounds like you already are.

Yes. We do have an obligation to the Old City.

Well, you can't really go wrong with additional people advocating caution. I'm not offended that you're saying so.

[She finds a smile for him to cement this sentiment.]

If you want to get involved in organizing things, talk to a man named Kirk. James Kirk, he's a captain of some sort. Spaceflight, I think, but he's got some experience with leadership, apparently."
