[ So there's this girl chilling out on some rock outside right now. She ventured out a little to try to get an idea of where she is, but... ]

As unlikely as this is, I have to ask- Did I timeslide in my sleep? [ She looks around warily at the landscape. She looks a little confused, but mostly annoyed as she addresses the video again. ] Not that I can without a time device of some sort, but this looks like the places I grew up in.

[ A pause. ]

Or did Bete Noire get a remodel while I was away? [ Because that's the only other option here really.

Behind her a large dog pops up to nuzzle at her, making her nearly fall and drop the communicator as she tries to shove it off a bit. Just enough so that she doesn't fall before she's reaching out to hug the big ball of fur. ] I'm leaning towards nuclear apocalypse in Bete Noire that somehow The Dog survived right now.

They're quite strong, and fast, but I can't say if it's natural. Their most dangerous attribute is their advanced weaponry.

Their weakness lay in their body armour; rupture it, and they're finished.

[She dearly wishes she wasn't discussing battle tactics with a teenager, but what choice does she have?]

[ Yeah not much. The best they can do to survive... ]

/ So they can't stand the atmosphere out here? Hence the mask and armor right? And them falling apart when it's ruptured? /

[That draws a slight smile.]

Precisely. They also fear contaminants - their immune systems may be weak, or perhaps they're simply paranoid.

If they have, they haven't succeeded.

Confrontations tend to be quick and brutal. Their last attack on the city was devastating. [There's a ghost of guilt, to the thought; she wasn't there to help. If she had been, perhaps - no, she's not going down that road yet again.]

/ Maybe it's time to stop being the victims, then. /

[ Sorry, Hope likes to be proactive sometimes. She doesn't like hearing that they were the ones attacked and who suffered. ]

[Jocelyn studies her with a wry, weary sort of amusement.] I can see why you and Erik would get along.

[ Hope hesitates a bit at that. Everything in her tells her that living with mutants never works for her. She's usually too isolated. ]

/ I can do my best. / [ She concedes. But if it turns into another Utopia incident she might have to skip out. ]
