[ So there's this girl chilling out on some rock outside right now. She ventured out a little to try to get an idea of where she is, but... ]

As unlikely as this is, I have to ask- Did I timeslide in my sleep? [ She looks around warily at the landscape. She looks a little confused, but mostly annoyed as she addresses the video again. ] Not that I can without a time device of some sort, but this looks like the places I grew up in.

[ A pause. ]

Or did Bete Noire get a remodel while I was away? [ Because that's the only other option here really.

Behind her a large dog pops up to nuzzle at her, making her nearly fall and drop the communicator as she tries to shove it off a bit. Just enough so that she doesn't fall before she's reaching out to hug the big ball of fur. ] I'm leaning towards nuclear apocalypse in Bete Noire that somehow The Dog survived right now.

[ Hope hesitates a bit at that. Everything in her tells her that living with mutants never works for her. She's usually too isolated. ]

/ I can do my best. / [ She concedes. But if it turns into another Utopia incident she might have to skip out. ]

[She doesn't let Hope feel just how sad that makes her.] We sometimes surprise ourselves.

[ So she opens her mind up more, trying to do what she's learned to to transfer memories as a telepathic. She shows her what she knows about Wanda ending mutantkind, and shares how there was nothing, then she was born. ]

/ Now the rumor is I'm the savior for our kind. /

[The stunned whisper escapes her lips even as it echoes in her thoughts. She can't help but be overwhelmed by it, for a moment - by the knowledge that this is the future of mutantkind.

Then she takes it in her stead, and she carries on, as she's learned to do.]

That's a heavy burden, particularly to carry alone.

[ Yeah sorry. sometimes she forgets how much of a shock it can be. Five new mutants was an overwhelming amount to her before. 200 a miracle. The fact that that's less than before doesn't always hit her. ]

I don't doubt you. [She seems relentlessly capable - it would be easy to forget her youth, if Jocelyn weren't staring into her eyes. She wonders how many people have.]

I've yet to find a saviour, however, who faced their challenge alone.

/ Everyone else was smart enough to avoid the job. / [ Plus... Hope has some trust issues lately. She does not want anyone else working with her. ]

Perhaps you haven't met the right people yet. [...Except she remembers thinking she had herself, and there's a sudden pang of loss she swiftly shoves aside.]

[ Hope definitely felt that, though. ]

/ We're kind of a small community these days. And we all lived in one place. Someone would have spoken up if they really wanted to help. /
