[There's a series of muffled clicks and thumps as he fiddles with the phone settings for a bit, and then his voice comes through clearer, more decisive.]

This is Hawkeye requesting a situation update on what the hell just happened to my team. And, uh. The entire operation, while we're at it.

Can anybody read me?

You didn't happen to spot Thor on your way out of the giant alien wreck, did you?

Shoot. I knew I forgot to pick up something.

Pepper tells me you found someone else though.

We found a stasis pod. The name's right, but we won't know what shape he's in until he wakes up.

[He lets out a long breath.]

No way to wake him up on our own, I'm guessing?

None. The genius who designed the things apparently translated 'manual override' as 'kill switch'.

Sounds about right.

Maybe the crash screwed something up. I can't think of a good reason to stagger pod openings like this.

[Actually, he can, but none of them are good scenarios.]

Really? Because I can think of a few - ranging from 'smarter in theory than practice' to flat out bad.

The crash definitely damaged the systems. Almost as much as a century or two without any maintenance. We should probably consider ourselves lucky that the locals didn't just start carting pieces off to decorate with.

I dunno, Stark, I think you'd definitely be a conversation piece in anyone's living room.

Does anyone... actually remember what we were doing on this ship in the first place?

[There's a low huff of amusement at that.]

Well, obviously. Being able to move around of my own accord just makes it a little less boring.

And no. Or if they do, they're not talking. It actually gets even weirder - there've been a few people who've turned back into popsicles, and haven't remembered even being here when they've woken up again.

Wait-- You mean someone put them back in the pods? Or they crawled back in on their own?

[Because he's looking at the Old City now, and he can kind of see how someone would want to put themselves back to sleep after something like that.]

There hasn't been any evidence of force, but I'm kind of doubting that every single one of them has just gone and decided they really need another decade or two of nap time.

[Beat]

Not that the lack of a decent satellite network hasn't made me wish I hadn't even bothered to get out of bed once or twice.

[He wants to high-five you so bad right now, Tony. Instead he just chuckles.]

You're telling me you haven't managed to build your own yet? You're losing your edge, Stark.

I've been saving it for a weekend project.

Besides, there's something up there. It just doesn't use any of the familiar protocols.

I heard it took you less than a day to get into S.H.I.E.L.D.'s system.

Yeah, well, you guys needed to upgrade your security anyways. I was doing you a favor.

Do you really need to ask? [That is probably a yes. Tony? Pass up a chance to be irritating?

Guess not. [He doesn't have to ask about Fury's reaction to that either.]

So you're saying their security is that much better?

No, I'm saying it isn't like anything we've ever seen on Earth. It's - incredibly weird.
