[Video: Thursday Morning, Week 21]

Wanda is hardly happy to find herself naked in a pod. She’s even less happy that this is the second time in six weeks she’s found herself in an alien environment without prior warning.]

[She’s dressed now, though, and she’s got her communicator on. She’s not exactly smiling, but she looks much further from smashing everything in sight than she feels]

This is getting ridiculous. I’m the Scarlet Witch. Does that mean anything to anybody? [That echoes in her ears for a few seconds before she realizes how stuck up it sounds.] That’s not what I meant. [deep breath]

What I mean is: My name is Wanda Maximoff. I’m a mutant. From Genosha. [She takes another look around her surroundings.] Which is a country on Earth. I… [Wanda does not have much experience socializing outside an island nation ruled by her father, and her discomfort as she tries to figure out what a proper greeting sounds like is obvious.] Who else was abducted by aliens? [It’s a start]

Scarlet witch? [Briar scratches his head] What sort've magic's that? Because somehow I don't think that you've got magic over the colour red.

And what do you mean, 'mutant'? [He'd heard that term before, from Tris and Nico, though he hadn't paid much attention to it. But he'd gotten the impression that 'mutant' referred to creatures gone wrong, not people.]

It's... just a title. [Wanda seems puzzled by how best to explain for a moment, then her expression hardens] And who are you? At least tell me your name before you go asking these questions.

[Aaaah, a mage name. That made sense. Briar nods to himself. Why she'd closed off though, he didn't know. Why mention her magic if she didn't want to talk about it?]

Briar Moss. No titles for me, though. Never really saw the point of getting a mage name when I already had a name like mine. [Briar grins]

Genosha? I've never even heard of a country by that name.

[She looks a little skeptical, though that might just be due to the initial greeting.]

What year are you from?

[For a moment, the screen lurches around fast enough that the background is only a sickening blur. There's muffled talking and the occasional odd beeping sound in the background. Then a strangely familiar face appears. Except he's far too young, and so thin and pale that it can't be healthy, even for him. Pietro is gaping at the viewscreen.]

I- But- You- How- Wanda?!

[His voice squeaked a little, a mixture of surprise, fear, and disbelief.]

No, you're not- who are you?

[Yes, he knows about the alternate realities thing, but his brain isn't quite keeping up its normal pace right now.]

[There's a good deal of confusion on Wanda's face, though under it there are hints of a smile]

It's -- It's me, Pietro. I'm here. Relax. [Wanda also doesn't have a great handle on this situation, but she figures both of them freaking out won't help much. She tries to wipe the frustration and confusion off her face.]

Briar Moss. You're a sorcerer, I suppose. [Wanda's expression lightens a little. Briar seems too goofy to be much of a threat.] Mutant means that my powers are genetic rather than mystical in origin.

[Wanda does not like hearing that. She fumes a bit pondering what that might imply before responding.] Two thousand and eight.

Huh. So much for that theory.

[She shakes her head, as though dismissing something.]

Ashley Williams. From, uh, 2183. I don't think anyone who's woken up on the ship comes from more than a few years beyond that, but that doesn't mean much.

Whoah.

[Have a kid version of the Toad staring at you, Wanda. He's peering at you like you might be some kind of scientific specimen. One that's potentially poisonous.]

So you're Wanda.

Uh... uh no, you're not. I mean, I don't think you are...

[Pietro squints suspiciously at the screen. Wanda. Looking at him with... some sort of affection? That just didn't happen. Even after their father brainwashed her, she still seemed to find him unsettling. Not that he blamed her.]

Well, you're here, obviously. But you don't look like Wanda. And whatthehell's Genosha?

I think there's some sort of... timeline discrepancy. But Genosha is the country where we grew up. [frown] You don't remember?

Even if there was a war, and the humans won [there's a derisive quality to that clause] there should have been a historical record.

[She blinks as the impact of that settles in.] A hundred and seventy five years... there's not going to be any going home, is there?

[Wanda is looking at Toad as if he's... well, Toad.] I am. I guess we haven't met before.

Mage.. [he scoffs] Only people I've ever met who call themselves sorcerers were much too puffed up with their own self-importance.

[He looks confused at her explanation, though] I don't understand. Doesn't magic run in families, sometimes? And I wouldn't really call it mystical...

[Kurt's using his image inducer, as he usually does on unsecured channels when he's got video on. Shouldn't be a problem, after all. Wanda's seen him with his human face on plenty of times.]

Wow, und I thought running into that younger take on the professor was weird. What's the future like?

[He's had so much weirdness lately he'll just role with this one. And hope she's not in a mood to try to murder him right now.]

Mage. Of course. I haven't met any sorcerers personally, but my father's intel on the Sorcerer Supreme says he's much the same. As you'd expect from a man calling himself that.

[she rubs her index finger and pinky against her temple] Sometimes it does, yes. But that's because magic is about mindset, and sometimes families will share similar mindsets. [Not hers, so much] Sometimes.

[She doesn't look very murderous right now. Just confused. And okay, maybe a little hostile.] Do I know you?

I don't know. There are people working on it, but it's - not exactly my area of expertise. I think Lieu - uh, sorry, Major Alenko could tell you more.

Uh, Kurt Wagner? The Amazing Nightcrawler? You threw me out a window one time?

[He says it without acrimony. He did kind of deserve that particular defenestrating.]

[Then he remembers Jocelyn and feels stupid.]

Or you're a different Wanda than the one I know and I'm an idiot. That happens a lot.

Kurt? [Wanda can't manage to keep the smile off her face or the excitement out of her voice.] I didn't recognize you! What happened to your fur? [She doesn't remember throwing him out of a window, but it sounds embarrassingly plausible to her.] Sorry about the window.

[Why Wanda should be particularly glad to see him is beyond him, but it beats hostility.] I've got my image inducer on is all. This network is monitored by the bad guys, so it seems like a good idea. They may have a bunch of reasons to be annoyed at me...

I'm sure they do. If the network is monitored, then... we could meet in person. I'm still not sure who these 'bad guys' are.

Well, ja, that'd make a lot more sense than trying to talk in code. Though you should probably see your brother before me. Oh, wait, did you know he was here? Because he is. Don't be too mean to him. He was just sick.

[So was Kurt, leaving him a little more verbally discombobulated than usual. A little.]

Pietro's sick? I'll see to him first, yes. And don't worry, at this point I've outgrown the sibling rivalry thing. [Wanda assumes Kurt's just referring to regular brother-sister tormenting, a habit she did have before Quicksilver got thrown out.]
