[There's a rueful werewolf on the screen this morning, with some fields in the background of the miniature aethographer's video feed. He's obviously outside, on the edge of town. It looks a bit odd with him completely lacking a coat like everyone else out and about at this hour, but then, he doesn't really need one.]
Ah. This is Randolph Lyall. I could use some help from anyone who might be available....
[And he turns the camera to show a shaggy, vaguely wolfish-looking dog with tawny fur on a rope he's using as a leash to keep it from running away. It's sporting a patented Outer Authority collar and it looks rather hangdog.]
I don't think the poor thing needs to have that stuck on its neck, now, do you?

Once you get that thing off, bring it by. I might be able to do something with it.
[Voice | Private, Encrypted]
Gladly. Will you let me in this time, or shall I leave it at the door?
[Light tone, there. He's trying to be pleasant, really, since... well, the whole situation is just ridiculous.]
[Voice | Private, Encrypted]

[He does pause before continuing, though, to wonder whether that means what he hopes it means. He decides that he's done enough prying into Tony's affairs, though, and manages not to ask. This doesn't pertain to the man's health, after all, which is all he's been trying to concern himself with.]
Do let me know what you learn. We had someone here earlier who had one grafted directly to her spinal cord, and having some more detailed knowledge of how they function might be of use if that sort of thing happens again.
[Voice | Private, Encrypted]
[He pauses, then clarifies, because it's become clear by this point that the two of them don't speak the same language, even if the words sound alike.]
I'll let you know if I figure anything out.
[Voice | Private, Encrypted]
Thank you. Good luck with your delicate work on the ship.
Oh no! What happened to the poor boy?
[He coughs lightly, raises his brows at her, and hopes she'll not decide to elaborate when he admits:]
There was a certain wolf of about this coloring causing them a bit of grief, the last time couple of times they decided the city needed cleansing by fire.

[There's a pause, as Kaidan looks back at the initial video image.]
So... whose dog is he?
[Voice: encrypted]
[Lyall shrugs, a little helplessly.]
It's possible whoever owned him before is in the hospital, or no longer with us, though, as he seems at least mostly tame.
[Voice: encrypted]
If he's mostly tame, well... at least there's no shortage of kids around here that could probably really use a dog right now.
[Voice: encrypted]
[He has to chuckle a bit, bending-- and momentarily putting the camera at an odd angle, so that it doesn't show much-- to ruffle the animal's ears.]
One can almost feel sorry for the soldiers, being told to track down and collar a dog. Not quite, but almost.
[Voice: encrypted]
[Kaidan sounds readily amused, if dryly so.]
I think that's one of those cases where you decide that the brass is all crazy, but for once it's better than having to face something that can kill you.
[Voice: encrypted]
[He can just see the poor, tame animal trotting right up to them with his tail wagging, an easy catch.]
[Voice: encrypted]
[There's a brief huff of a laugh at the mental image.]
I'll head over to your location now. This, I have to see.
[Voice: encrypted] => [Action? :) ]
[And by the time Kaidan finds him, he's found himself somewhere to sit, and has his hat brim tilted low over his eyes to keep as much sun off his face as he can. Not that there's much of it, but it's enough to irritate a little.
The dog has given up on trying to pull away, and is flopped at his feet.]
[Action!]
That? That is definitely one collared dog.
[Kaidan's huff of laughter is tempered with a crouch before the flopped out animal, and a few murmurs of greeting, not unlike his initial attempts at befriending an unknown werewolf. That parallel has his ears coloured a little as he glances up at Lyall again, noting the tilted hat.]
Ah... should we find you some shade?
no subject
Perhaps. I didn't want to be difficult to find, but between yourself and the pup there, I imagine we'll stand out enough even in the shade. Would you like to lead him?
[He offers the rope leash to Kaidan with another amused look.]
no subject
I think this guy's new jewellery would make him stand out enough on his own. And, well, you don't exactly look comfortable. Werewolf thing or 'comes from a foggy, rain-soaked island' thing?
[Kaidan has, apparently, decided that the way to approach the supernatural is to frame it as something new and unusual in the universe. And therefore something to be curious about.]
no subject
Werewolf, I'm afraid. I might prefer a cloudy day merely out of familiarity, but werewolves are affected by sunlight as well as moonlight. Younger werewolves or those with less control over their changes take dreadful burns from sunlight, though not quite to the extent of a vampire. At my age and rank, it is merely uncomfortable-- moreso the longer I have been awake.
no subject
[The question is innocuous as Kaidan ruffles the collared dog's ears. His eyebrows are only raised sightly.]
no subject
Kaidan's question. It is an unusual feeling to have people actually asking after his health, even subtly, and he's still not used to it, even after a few months now.]
Just since sundown last night, I assure you. Not that long at all. Should I ask you the same question?
no subject
No need -- with the plague not a problem any more I'm actually being a sensible adult again.
no subject
[He's not terribly serious in the prod, though, and is quick to add, with a smile,]
I am glad you are feeling more yourself, however.
Want to wrap this? I need to close out some threads so I can make new ones. :D
[Terribly serious or not, it does provoke an Awkward Alenko to appear, before the major catches himsel f with a cough and a very mild glower at Lyall as if he suspects him of poking fun.]
Yeah. It's... nice. You definitely appreciate health more when you lose it for a while. But how's the shade working for you? OK to wait until the third shows up...?
works for me! since Ruby-thread kinda died, and we have a full moon log to start anyhow...
I was only teasing, my friend. And I am fine here to rest. You can tell me what you are turning your hand to now, in the workshop, if anything. I haven't had time to drop by in weeks, it seems, but hopefully soon there will be more time.
