[There's a rueful werewolf on the screen this morning, with some fields in the background of the miniature aethographer's video feed. He's obviously outside, on the edge of town. It looks a bit odd with him completely lacking a coat like everyone else out and about at this hour, but then, he doesn't really need one.]

Ah. This is Randolph Lyall. I could use some help from anyone who might be available....

[And he turns the camera to show a shaggy, vaguely wolfish-looking dog with tawny fur on a rope he's using as a leash to keep it from running away. It's sporting a patented Outer Authority collar and it looks rather hangdog.]

I don't think the poor thing needs to have that stuck on its neck, now, do you?

[Tony sounds a little strangled, like he's trying very, very hard not to cackle like an idiot at the view on the screen.]

Once you get that thing off, bring it by. I might be able to do something with it.

I'll be out, actually. I have some delicate work to do on the ship.

Direct access to the central nervous system would give them control over a lot more than just crazy powers. I'd be willing to bet if you got an inside view the thing she had grafted on, that'd only be the tip of the iceberg.

[He pauses, then clarifies, because it's become clear by this point that the two of them don't speak the same language, even if the words sound alike.]

I'll let you know if I figure anything out.

[she hasn't seen an OA collar before, but she knows a sad puppy when she sees one. She and Pongo are good friends, back home]

Oh no! What happened to the poor boy?

Well... that's not something you see every day. Poor guy... if you need some extra hands, I could probably take a break right now. I'm guessing it's the usual three people drill, yeah?

If you can't get her, let me know and I'll try and find a third.

[There's a pause, as Kaidan looks back at the initial video image.]

So... whose dog is he?

Poor guy.

If he's mostly tame, well... at least there's no shortage of kids around here that could probably really use a dog right now.

Ah, well, speaking as a soldier...

[Kaidan sounds readily amused, if dryly so.]

I think that's one of those cases where you decide that the brass is all crazy, but for once it's better than having to face something that can kill you.

Still, unless they're just that brainwashed, you'd think one of them would figure it out. Although I guess given the immune system issues, having your standard model waggy-tailed dog trying to give you kisses might actually be terrifying.

[There's a brief huff of a laugh at the mental image.]

I'll head over to your location now. This, I have to see.

[By the time Kaidan finds him, he's also found time to make his arrival in the company of a small packet of dried jerky. Dogs, after all, often respond well to bribes.]

That? That is definitely one collared dog.

[Kaidan's huff of laughter is tempered with a crouch before the flopped out animal, and a few murmurs of greeting, not unlike his initial attempts at befriending an unknown werewolf. That parallel has his ears coloured a little as he glances up at Lyall again, noting the tilted hat.]

Ah... should we find you some shade?

[A little more of the jerky is converted into dog bribes, and Kaidan takes the lead with a nod, and a ruffle of the dog's ears.]

I think this guy's new jewellery would make him stand out enough on his own. And, well, you don't exactly look comfortable. Werewolf thing or 'comes from a foggy, rain-soaked island' thing?

[Kaidan has, apparently, decided that the way to approach the supernatural is to frame it as something new and unusual in the universe. And therefore something to be curious about.]

standsentinel: (quasi-eyebrow raise)

[personal profile] standsentinel 2013-01-01 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, and... how long have you been awake at this point?

[The question is innocuous as Kaidan ruffles the collared dog's ears. His eyebrows are only raised sightly.]
standsentinel: (looking down)

[personal profile] standsentinel 2013-01-03 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
[Kaidan's answer comes first in the shake of his head and his smile, but he does give an answer, mixed in between further fussing over the dog, who now droops across his legs.]

No need -- with the plague not a problem any more I'm actually being a sensible adult again.
standsentinel: (awkwardsauce)

Want to wrap this? I need to close out some threads so I can make new ones. :D

That's not what I-- I didn't mean--

[Terribly serious or not, it does provoke an Awkward Alenko to appear, before the major catches himsel f with a cough and a very mild glower at Lyall as if he suspects him of poking fun.]

Yeah. It's... nice. You definitely appreciate health more when you lose it for a while. But how's the shade working for you? OK to wait until the third shows up...?
