I'm back. The trip was worthwhile, I think.

Kaylee, Tosh, I have a project I could use your help with. The area where the ship's power core is located is going to need life support routed there as soon as possible. Between the three of us, we should be able to rig up a solution fairly quickly.

For anyone who might venture out into the mountains, be careful. I encountered some saber-toothed cats and an Andrewsarchus there.

Ah. I have seen those, though not yet actually tangled with one. I shall look forward to the experience.

[He smiles, perhaps a hint of predator in it.]

Between myself and Chime, we may be able to bring it down. I am less interested in removing it from its habitat, but potentially eating it. Meat is growing a bit scarce, with winter coming on.

[Bruce chuckles a little.] Normally I wouldn't advocate for eating an animal previously thought to be extinct, but given our situation, it might not be a terrible idea. Avoid getting in the way of their jaws if you try, they're supposedly incredibly strong.

As I hear, most of the wildlife in the vecinity is previously thought to be extinct, but it all appears to be quite well here. I cannot explain it, myself, but some of the further advanced individuals might have theories.

Regardless, I thank you for the advice. I notice you managed to come through your encounter unscathed.

Oh, I have a few theories myself.

Yes, well, some of us are special that way. Regardless, I would love to hear these theories sometime. I was a bit of an amateur ruminantologist, back home. I confess to miss my work a bit, but haven't had the time nor the contacts to attempt to pick it up again. Dinosaurs, still, have always been outside my realm of expertise.

I'm not much of a dinosaur expert either, to be honest. But there are a number of possibilities, and I intend on doing a little research before I say anything definitive.

Ah, well, far be it from me to rush your research. Only be sure to share, once you've come to a working theory.

[Maybe a faint tease, there, again. As if Bruce would forget to tell people what he found out. Though really, for all Lyall knows, he would. Some scientists do.]
