[The message pings its way across the communicators, encrypted and filtered to the Ship contingent (and Thor) on a lazy Saturday morning. ]

Kaidan Alenko here.

Now that we've all had a chance to catch our breath, I should share what I learned for my part of the timeslip. To give some context, I was dropped back a hundred years or so relative to now, to a point on board Salvation roughly a week before her crash.

The ship was functional, and I was able to speak to the AI and learn a few things about the nature of what's going on here. Most critical is the fact that we weren't brought here by Salvation or her crew for a specific purpose, we were rescued after having fallen through a dimensional rift out of our own realities and into the spaces in between, where it's pretty lethal to the point where several weeks of regeneration in the stasis pods still left one poor guy looking like what might some day become hamburger after the pod dislodged him ahead of schedule.

I'd say 'accidentally', but Salvation's AI suspected sabotage, but was unable to prove it due to gaps in her memory logs, likely intentional. I was unable to access key parts of her systems in that timestream, but if we can get her online again now, I bet I could learn more.

Back to the reality rifts thing -- one opened on the ship at one point, letting these energy-sucking creatures on board the ship. Exciting stuff, if you can imagine, and I wonder if they were the same things that people in the future timeline reported seeing.

Salvation has the computing power needed to get us all home again, if we can repair her enough, but to my mind the stakes are higher. Something's destabilizing different realities, and the goal of the ship was to figure out how to stop it. If that's the future of Verdana, and I have my suspicions about what that countdown on the ship is about, I think we might need to make a stand here before we think about going home, or we might not have homes left to go to.

Alenko out.

[In a private message to Tosh, Bruce and Tony]

On a lighter note, I scored an equation for calculating time travel off the AI, if anyone's curious. It's huge, though, you'll need some serious data storage just for the equation alone.

Keep an eye on your watch if you're heading below the collapse. Some of the instrumentation down there's screwing with them.

[Private, encrypted message to Tosh]

How quickly could you pull together equipment to detect a temporal rift?

McCoy here. I'm out of town so of course something that could use my attention crops up. If you're able to rig up a refrigerated storage room on short notice, talk to me.

It needs to be proofed against scavengers, so to my mind the Ship's a good location, but I'm open to ideas.

Additionally, I'm going to be teaching some of the locals a bit about determining cause of death. If you're not going to faint and land face-first in a resected spleen and this sounds like something you want to learn a little about, let me know.

[Locked to the Avengers, Pepper, Lyall, Bones, and Tosh]

I'm back. The trip was worthwhile, I think.

[Locked to Kaylee and Tosh]

Kaylee, Tosh, I have a project I could use your help with. The area where the ship's power core is located is going to need life support routed there as soon as possible. Between the three of us, we should be able to rig up a solution fairly quickly.

[OPEN]

For anyone who might venture out into the mountains, be careful. I encountered some saber-toothed cats and an Andrewsarchus there.

[Bruce is sitting at the table in his house, which looks like this, and making himself a list of things he needs to do in the next few days. His glasses don't do much to hide the fact that he hasn't slept in a couple of weeks, save for a few times his body forced him to nap.]

For those who haven't met me, I'm Dr. Bruce Banner. Before the plague hit, I was working with a team of scientists to figure out how the pods functioned. Now I'd like to focus on increasing the ship's power supply, but I'm not sure who is still around to help, or if anyone else is interested.

I would also like to know if anyone would be interested in attending lectures on various topics relevant to some of the problems that we face here. Things like basic engineering, first aid, hydroponic gardening, chemical analysis, and really anything else you can think of that would be useful. The lectures would be aimed at those who haven't had much previous education in these areas.

I don't have a location or specific times planned out yet, I'm just gauging the level of interest at the moment.

[Locked to the Avengers, Pepper, Bones, and Lyall]

[This part is delivered far more awkwardly.] I need to go away for a few days. Up in the mountains, I think, where I won't be able to hurt anyone. Company is probably a bad idea, but I thought you all should know where I'm going, at least.

[The video starts focused on the space a few inches above Usagi's head, showing the obviously alien decor of one of the pod rooms on the ship. Someone is not quite sure how to aim the camera on her cool new communicator at the moment, but she corrects the angle a bit ham-handedly as she starts to talk. Usagi looks tired, and nervous, and she's speaking Japanese.]

Everybody? Are you getting this? I'm-- I think I'm some place pretty weird.

[She glances around. Yeah. Weird is an understatement. She lowers her arm a little, showing a wider angle: Usagi is seated, slouched, on the floor near where she emerged from her pod, with her transformation compact in her lap. She's got that 'about to cry' trembly face going on.]

And just--just when we were all back together again. Is this some kind of enemy? Could I just be having a nightmare instead?

We're having a festival a week from today, to celebrate Winter Convergence. That is, ah, when we'll have a full view of Antiqua in our sky. It's usually in the square, but - this year we'll be holding it in the common building, out behind Edmund's shop.

[Because the square was a little bit burned down in the last raid, and that's just depressing.]

You're all welcome to attend. If you want to help with the decorating, or with the music - that would be welcome, too.

[He pauses as though uncertain, before hurrying on with,]

It's customary, if you've lost someone during the year, to burn something at the close of the celebration. A token, something small. We celebrate their lives, you see - and then we let them go. You're not expected to follow our traditions, but - if it will help, you can.

[The following is sent Monday morning to anyone who was present in the Old City on Thursday of Week 19 (November 19th OOCly, for player reference).]

[Filtered to Tosh, Lyall and the three Avengers still above ground and breathing:]

I'm a little concerned with how the second stage is hitting me. I don't want to worry people generally, but I know all of you can keep on top of things.

[Pepper honestly sounds more dead level than concerned, voice a colourless murmur and the video kept off.]

Just in case I'm too out of it: if we get samples, or a dose of vaccine. Anything. Let people know to talk to Captain Silene. She has a communicator, she's a contact at the port town. Knows me. She might know where manufacturing facilities are.

[Filtered to Tony:]

I... Tony. I would really like you here right now.

[This, spoken privately, is where the concern has gotten to. Beyond that, there's a thread of naked fear that's been missing from Pepper's previous determined sulking her way through Stage One.]

[ the feed comes on, hello everyone. Ianto looks pretty impassive, despite what he's been reading over the last few days since waking up in somewhere that was very clearly not Cardiff. ]

My name is Ianto Jones. I understand that this is obviously not Cardiff, and that there is obviously some sort of illness going around. Can't say I appreciate the unexpected trip, or the not so great timing of the Rift...

If there is a Jack Harkness or a Gwen Cooper about, or if anyone has seen or heard anyone by these names - one's a man in a big flashy coat, almost as flash as the man himself, the other is a Welshwoman, I would appreciate hearing of it.

Thank you for the help, I understand this can't be a good time to ask - but anything else about this place that anyone can tell me, or what is going on, I would also be grateful.

[ a solemn nod and then he's gone. ]

[After a little thought on how best to say this without letting the Outer Authorities know too much, Lyall finally makes an announcement. He feels it's something everyone ought to know, and he'll be happy to field questions, but still: it's a bit vague. It's also very late, but he's nocturnal, anyway. What did anyone expect?

Despite the usual tiredness, though, he actually sounds light-hearted for the first time in days, to anyone who's been paying attention.]

This is Randolph Lyall.

[Yeah, officially dropping the Professor at this point....]

Chime is alive. Apparently that ship has more uses than we thought. Please reply encrypted if you wish details, or find me at the hospital. I'm afraid I can't send a mass message with any kind of locking protocol on it, but this seems rather important.

[Understatement of the year. He disconnects after a moment of trying to decide whether he should include a farewell. In the end, though, it just seems silly.]

[Open]

Unfortunately, I'm unable to assist at the hospital or with any projects on the ship until further notice. I'd like to discourage anyone from visiting my house, as well. I've been showing symptoms of the disease spread by the bandits. But I'm not staying at the hospital, as they need the room for those in worse condition.

In less horrible news, we've successfully predicted the opening of a pod. But our prediction rate is not 100% accurate. Two pods opened simultaneously, and we were only able to predict one.

[Locked to the Avengers, including Wasp]

I hope you're all well, at least. If you are, Dr. McCoy insists that someone checks up on me, or directs him to my house if they can't. [He's not super-happy about this part. Or any of it, really.]

[Michiru only hesitates a moment before coaxing a finger over what she hopes will be the switch that turns this on to broadcast -- though broadcast to whom, she's not entirely sure. Still, they're in the dark. And they need answers, even if she's not sure how well she'll be able to trust any of the answers that come.

But there wasn't much choice.]

I'm not sure who is out there and hearing this, but we're looking for... answers. Any answers. Where is this place. Why are we here?

[All business, a plainly guarded expression on her features, blue eyes fixed steadily on the video screen.]

And how did we even get here? Who kidnapped us and who do we need to defeat to get home?

[The deeper voice comes from somewhere off screen, and a dusty blonde head looks briefly over Michiru's shoulder to frown at the screen, too. Then it's gone again, as Haruka pulls back and gets back to finishing getting her things together.]

If we were brought here, there's a way to get back where we came from. There has to be.

[Michiru's gaze flickers back only briefly towards her partner. Who do they need to defeat. It's crossed her mind too; if this is another battle they need to face to fulfill their duty, she's willing to face it.]

We'd appreciate any answers anyone has. That's all. Thank you.

You're too nice, Michiru, you should have--

[And that's all of Haruka's growled complaint that the feed gets before it shuts off.]

((OOC: All dialogue is in Japanese! Replies may come from either Michiru or Haruka or both.))

Not long after I woke up here, a request was made for someone to study the pods and how they function, in order to determine whether or not it was possible to open them without harming the person inside. I have made significant progress on this project, with assistance from several others. This is an update on that progress. I've decided to share our findings with everyone, because they are relevant to all of us.

Pod Project Results )

[Locked to Jane, Pepper, Tony, Natasha, and Steve]

[Oh he's so glad he can use text here.] This is only somewhat related, but I thought you should all know that Natasha and I found Agent Coulson's pod. He's not awake yet, but he might be eventually. It's possible that the pod is in the process of reviving him. Of course, it's also possible he could be from a previous point in time. I'm not sure if there's a way to know for certain until the pod opens.
