[River is actually outside the ship. She's in the Old City, sitting on the street somewhere, arms wrapped around her knees. She's wearing the same dress she arrived in, and still hasn't gotten any shoes. There's a collar around her neck.]

I can't see them...can't pull out the bits inside. They talk to me, but I hear words that mean nothing.

[she says the next bit quietly, as if she's reminding herself] I could function like I'm a girl...

[Strange moral quandary for a Nietzschean. Someone who knows that much about you, without trying, is extremely uncomfortable from a man from a species that encourages people to look closer and read more deeply, because people should have to earn your secrets. But morally, he's an individualist. Her needs should be her own, not anyone else's.
