[Video: Saturday Night, Week 31] Landfall

[With night fallen, the shore that Kaidan's standing on is much like many a patch of shoreline along the coast, not immediately recognizable as a set location and likely on purpose. He looks fit, if a bit more tired around the eyes and face than his last appearance on the network, but seems to have survived the sea voyage intact. The light he's speaking by is firelight, and a few crates of unloaded goods can be spotted, along with the edge of some very makeshift tents. (Or, really, canopies, scavenged from packing, open on all sides but enough to hopefully keep rain off.)]

Well, we made it. The drugs are in production, and we picked up some interesting stuff, and an interesting person, along the way. We've got a long walk ahead of us, with cargo, if we do it on foot, so if anyone's around that has access to some faster transport, I'd definitely appreciate it.

Yeah, your new friend already introduced himself.

[And happens to be a - well, Tony wouldn't call Thor a friend, exactly, but they know each other.

Meanwhile, Tony looks perhaps a little concerned beneath the general aura of Stark Brand Flippancy, because Kaidan's already gone crazy once, and hey man, Thor introduced himself on your communicator, remember?]

[Kaidan looks nicely sane, at least. That he's including Thor in his summary of events is more down to the fact that both his communicator-lendings took the form of handing the thing over and then bolting to find a quiet corner for himself away from that much sheer exuberant energy and presence.]

Yeah -- I loaned him my comm, since it's not like they were handing them out like candy where we were. I did pick up some souvenirs that I think you'll love, although they were out of those little bobblehead dolls every tourist trap ever has in stock.

Damn. I'll have to track some down to the south.

[The feed cuts out, then returns on an encrypted band instead.]

I'm keeping an eye on the generators here, but if you can find a couple of sane volunteers to pick you up, I can give them a crash course on operating Verdana's answer to the monster truck.

Sane by our standards, or sane by normal people's? Either way, it can be a bit of a rare commodity, but I'll let you know.

We were out at another domed city, much friendlier, less with the shooting. I got my hands on this:

In Tuathal, I behaved myself and stuck to the public networks. I've been poking at it on the return trip, though, and if Hyperion's using the same sort of network tech we could have some fun.

[Whether the grin he gives Tony is boyish or mildly toothy is up for debate.]

Sane meaning "doesn't think they're a god or a magic fairy".

And that sounds very promising.

How's the ship holding? Did you get the path down to the power core cleared out?

[There's a bit of amorphous Canadian guilt to go with his more technical interest, as Kaidan removing himself to the high seas had removed some of the project's workforce.]

Yeah. We've made some headway on that project - I'll update you when you're back in the city.

Sounds good. You know the way to my place, since I'll probably head there as soon as I've handed the coffee and cocoa plants off to someone who can actually make them do... plant stuff.

And hopefully nothing's nested in there while I was gone.

You know, there's probably a sonic deterrent for the whole nesting problem. Might come in handy in the hydroponics ward, too.

Hadn't thought of that. I know some business use 'em as teenager repellent, but the fact that alien hearing isn't quite the same range as human means they've fallen a bit out of favour in recent years. Either because they don't work, or because you really, really don't want to see the kind of lawsuits that an outraged volus with an asari lawyer can land on people...

I'll add that to the pile of things to catch up on. I brought some other new toys back that could go together to help make a drone.

[Awake and, if the emphasis and the flash of a grin that leavens the fatigue around his eyes is an indication, quite pleased all in all.]

Not here, as such, though we did land ourselves in jail overnight when visiting the outpost to the south.

[That had been exciting, if embarrassing for him personally.]

Have you procured transportation yet, or should I find someone with one of those large wheeled contraptions and send them your way?

Well now, that sounds like something I need to hear more about when I get back. Over beers, I think, to be traditional about it.

And yeah -- Stark volunteered his toys, I'm just getting drivers together now.

Only if you have some that is better than what you made down below.

[Because that, Kaidan, was nasty. It doesn't help that Lyall is not a fain of beer.]

Excellent. I imagine we will be seeing you in a few days, then? Along with whatever this cargo of yours is?

I can arrange it. The locals actually brew some pretty good stuff, if you ask after it. The wine's good too, although that's not really a sit and discuss prison stories drink, traditionally.

[Kaidan's crooked smile suggests he's not actually up on post-incarceration drinking guides.]

If we can get our drivers and there are no disasters on the road, I'd say... Monday night, late-ish.

Perfect timing. I can try to be back from hunting in time to help you unload your traveling contraptions, if you think you could use the help?

[And besides, he hasn't had Kaidan's scent in his nose in a while. It'll be nice to reacquaint himself.]

Many hands make light work... and I've been doing enough heavy lifting with my biotics that I wouldn't object to less of it.

[Kaidan's smile is crooked, but friendly.]

What a handy coincidence that werewolves are rather excellent at lifting heavy things. I will see you soon.

[He tips his hat to the fellow with a smile, and disconnects.]

[Kaidan gives Wes a once-over as the feed pops up and winces, but the wincing is tempered by coming from a time and place where obnoxious holograms and lighting are considered an awesome Saturday night. At least it's not Blasto merch.]

Depending on how fast you're used to it still might not compare, but yeah -- wheeled armoured transport, a handful of 'em. Battery-powered, all-terrain, and a hell of a lot faster than horses.

Less with the kicking and the crapping on you, too.

Hah -- no, that's the one thing separating them from all my horrifying memories of our frigate's ground transport. Or my memories of my old CO repeatedly driving it off mountains because it was a shortcut anyway.

[There may or may not be a reaction from off camera about this, as both the old CO and another of her crew are hanging out at the landing site with him. Kaidan looks smugly teasing in an off-screen direction for a moment all the same.]

You a tank driver, pilot, that sort of thing?

[He looks mildly disappointed at the lack of boom. He does like a good explosion]

Starfighter pilot. You've got one of my old CO's on that ship with you, actually.

[Well, starfighter rules out the early 21st century people... Kaidan's brows furrow briefly as he looks Wes over and maps his age up against...]

Skywalker? If he's your old CO, just how young does your military promote people? I mean, not that he's not capable, good guy in a fight, especially with that whole Force thing, but... damn.

Timelines get kriffed up on top of all this dimension stuff.

[He is trying very hard not to remember that time he hit on Darth Vader's wife]

Luke's about ten years behind me. But we did end up promoting pretty young back in the Rebellion.

Generally if you're calling something a Rebellion, you don't have the luxury of a multi-year military academy, no.

[Kaidan's interest is perked, enough for him to offer that]

If you think you can pick up how to handle one of these as a crash course, and feel like picking us up get in touch with Tony Stark -- they're his toys, although he's pretty good about sharing.

We tended to be pretty unorthodox back then. Enough improvising that I can probably pick up handling the ground vehicles.

Just don't drive it off the side of any mountains because it looks like a shortcut and you should do fine.

[There's a little bit too much of a haunted look in Kaidan's eyes for that to be entirely a joke.]
