[Video] Week 34 - Friday Evening

So about this fog...

[Hey guys, there's a redhead on your network looking magnificently scruffy. That is full Irish beard right there. Actually... that's way more than a week's growth for those of you that knew he was leaving. He's currently sprawled out on the stone floor of his cavern hideaway, holding his arm up so the video's looking down on him.]

I was hoping to make it back into town today but apparently Verdana had other ideas. [And there's a knowing smirk that comes with that because he at least has spent most of the last weeks (as far as he knows) talking to her.]

So, I don't know when I'm going to be able to get back but... [His free hand comes up to thread through his shaggy crimson curls.] Anyone out there good with a pair of scissors?

As soon as this damn fog clears we need to go hunting... Oberon is bored out of his mind and we both need to stretch our legs. You in?

I've been through this before. Not as long, but I seem to recall growling at a fence post and getting chased off by a pair of warriors of some sort.

[He has enough self-awareness to look vaguely embarrassed.]

I'll be fine. The concern is app-- appric-- blast, I can't even talk straight. This is terribly embarrassing. I probably ought not have answered. I don't suppose you'll do the favor of forgetting I'm making an idiot of myself?

Does it have something to do with the war? I merely saw it and decided perhaps it would be best to remain indoors.

[She recovers from the momentary start, at least, that odd manic moment passing just as suddenly as it came. Now back to the calm, cool, scholar's mask.]

It seems we've all left something important behind. At least, everyone I've spoken to. [She offers a small, half-embarrassed little smile.]

What were you looking for?

[Don't worry, she's not about to leap into that fog just to find out which cave you're hiding in. Her grin widens and she even laughs. She definitely doesn't sound like the tired and exhausted of a thing from before.]

That would be me. Thank you.

[When he stammered a little, she laughed again.]

I get it, it's fine. And no, it's not natural, but I think it won't last long. It's been three days, I think. Shouldn't last too much longer.

[From the sounds in the background, Pepper's apartment is hosting a party, and someone's either won or lost soundly at a card game. She herself is in her kitchen, judging by the backdrop, and is taking a moment to catch up on network messages while getting another round of snacks on the go. Taking in the general aura of beardliness, she dimples as she sends a reply.]

Judging by the delay in timestamps, I'm sure you've probably already gotten five offers for a haircut, and possibly one for a young chicken, considering the randomness of some of our shipmates, but if you still need help with the more, um, civilized facets of life here, I have a few contacts.

Verdana seems particularly good at ruining others' plans.

[there's a bit of a smirk in her voice]

Thuellai? Like the Greek storm winds? Is that where you’re from? [At least it’s not Norse? But why Greek? He is so ready to ragequit this place. Why him? What did he do to des- okay no probably best he not ask that question.]

[He switches the feed over to a private line just in case because well... paranoia has served him well. ]

Three days already? Damn… she didn’t tell me how long it had been going on just that it wasn’t safe and my hound was whining about how it smelled funny.

[He waves a hand dismissively. More importantly…]

But what about you? What happened? You found some way to reverse what was happening to you, obviously, but how? I mean, you’re a redhead all of a sudden… [Don’t mind that grin, it’s totes just him being excited because you’re alive, not because you’re hot. ~~Okay maybe a little because you’re hot.~~] I thought you couldn’t without something from your planet?

My existence was made using the myths of the Anemoi and Thuellai as a basis.
But when I was human I came from Japan.

Everyone’s been plucked out of their lives. I think it’d be more remarkable to find someone who hadn’t left something important behind. [Though maybe incoming apocalypse was a little bigger than test results but the idea still applied. ]

I’m guessing it does. They pulled out all the stops on chemical warfare from what I can tell. It’s impossible to say exactly what’s in it or the concentrations ‘cause I’m sure it varies depending on where you are in it. I bet even the scientists here would be hard pressed to identify it with much precision.

A Druid never forgets. [A chuckle that he’s obviously trying to stifle.] But I can pretend for your sake.

Which of course will do me very little good, and likely just embarrass me further.

[He huffs a sigh, one that might be part chuckle of his own.]

Well, perhaps with some luck I'll have forgotten this whole inci-- insa-- this whole bloody ordeal by then, myself... this is probably the closest to drunk I've been since the seventeenth century, but I seem to rec-- recall that there's forgetfulness involved in that.

[There's a pause, as he realizes:]

Though in that case, you may have to remind me about the hunt.

Well, it does smell kind of funny.

[Enhanced senses and all can be a real drag.]

Er, yes, I did, I- [She paused and sighed, and then frowned.] I've always been a redhead, thank you very much! Just because it's a rare hair color doesn't mean you need to point it out! Have enough trouble back home...

[Ahem]

Well, yes, see, a friend is here. She... well, oddly enough, she isn't from my version of Gaia. She's suppose to be male, but she says I'm suppose to be male so... who knows exactly what is different and what is the same but it looks like our origins are the same for the most part.

[And she's back to being somber again, leaning back against the pillow on her bed.]

Remember when I told you about SOLDIERs? About myself being the prototype? I wasn't necessarily the prototype for all of SOLDIER, just... one in particular. A friend of mine named Sephiroth. She was made perfectly. Or as perfect as one could get when combining Mako and an alien parasite's cells. [Her tone is dry here and she sighs.] The parasite gets around by cloning and taking over another's DNA, eventually making that new host return to their original maker. She's destroyed other Planets this way.

It's all scientific jargon that I would rather not go into right now. Regardless, I have cells that are both of the Planet's and an alien. But I was not made perfectly, hence the degradation. Sephiroth was and somehow... apparently, she did this to the Genesis of her world, if she mixes her blood with my own it.. undoes the damage. So far, it seems to have worked and is permanent. Her cells, known as S-Cells, had been a theory of mine for a cure but my Sephiroth didn't like me and wouldn't help me. So I had no way of knowing if it was truly a cure or not.

The Goddess was my last chance, which is why I was in such despair when I was taken before I could try and activate the Goddess materia, speak to Her and ask for help.

[Chemical warfare. Aginor's department, something she never saw the use of. Despoiling the land one intended to rule had no purpose. She sniffs, indicating her distaste of the idea]

Well, chemical concoctions can have strange mixtures, yes. I know little of the war, so far. But the fog was thoroughly disturbing. I know I will be trying to protect my home from the next patch.

Just a guess. [The amiable admission's accompanied by a little shrug.] You said 'back today' like you've been gone a while.

[Oh hello redhead. Atticus grins at her as soon as the response comes and there is, almost immediately, a huge wolfhound shoving his head over Atticus’ shoulder.]

Oberon! [Atticus laughs and pushes his hound away, mentally promising him that he will pick the story back up again soon. With nothing else to do telling tales has been the only way to keep themselves amused. ]

Hey, yeah I got a few offers but it’s always good to know whose good with a pair of scissors around here. No offers for chickens though, unfortunately. A nice roasted chicken sounds excellent and I’m sure he wouldn’t argue that one either. [He nodded his head in the direction he’d pushed Oberon into and off screen his hound’s ears perked up.]

Oh she’s not all that bad. [And there’s fondness in his tone as he says it.] Besides this mess isn’t exactly her fault.

When you were hu- [And now obviously not human but…] What? Non-human isn’t terribly surprising in this place but you… used to be?

From what I understand it was quite the devastating event. I’ve never seen warfare on such a large scale before. Kingdoms and countries… even the World Wars but… entire planets against each other? [He shakes his head a little, obviously disapproving. But he still felt wars should be fought with swords and shields or maybe guns, things that damage the foolish humans fighting in a war and not the land they fight on.]

I imagine a lot of people are going to want to enforce their dwellings to keep stuff like that out. Might be hard, though, given the state of the city.

I died and Mother Nature and MiM brought me back
So that I can keep climate change from happening too quickly.
At least that's what I think happened.
It makes the most sense that it was Mother Nature
Since I am a nature spirit and fall under her domain
And MiM can raise spirits from dead people

You weren’t a redhead last time! [He grins though and it’s only half-heartedly defensive.] Hey, I’m not trying to give you shit for it. Come on, gingers gotta stick together!

[And he tugs at one floppy curl. He’s a redhead too, Genesis give him a break geez… The humor bleeds out of his expression rather quickly though as she begins to explain about Sephiroth and Mako and SOLDIER. He nods but some of it goes over his head. He’d sat in on a basic chemistry class, sure, and he understood the way all living things worked on a cellular level but he was no geneticist and this mess she was mixed up in was definitely some very advanced science. Mixing cells and alien parasites that could destroy planets and…]

Over all that sounds like a really complicated and really shitty situation. But having Sephiroth here worked out in the end so that’s good. I’m glad you’re okay now. [He’s not sappy really, he’s just had way too much death around him lately and she was just one more person he couldn’t save. He still sounds a bit sappy saying though.]

[Atticus makes a mental note about the time frame Lyall just gave him, curious about just how old his new friend is. He suspects that Lyall would be just as unwilling as Atticus would be to just outright tell him, though.]

Don’t worry, I’ll remind you… good luck with forgetting though.

Oh… yeah I wasn’t really looking for anything in particular. [He shrugs but his smirk says that he knows more than he’s letting on.] Just getting to know the place.

[She couldn't fight the grin even if she tried when he told her about his own hair. She laughed even, glowing eyes going brighter briefly as she did, but her smile went somber at the end of her tale and his reaction to it. She reached up to rub her eye, nodding.]

It's a shitty situation for a lot of people, Sephiroth included. I just hope this is all permanent. Or last long enough until I get home so I can be tested to be sure. [She drops her hand with a sigh. She was still exhausted really, but not like before. She just had a long day today and she tired easy sometimes.] Still, I'll take what I can. I feel better and the degradation is almost completely gone.

[She pouted playfully.]

I don't like gray hair.
