So about this fog...

[Hey guys, there's a redhead on your network looking magnificently scruffy. That is full Irish beard right there. Actually... that's way more than a week's growth for those of you that knew he was leaving. He's currently sprawled out on the stone floor of his cavern hideaway, holding his arm up so the video's looking down on him.]

I was hoping to make it back into town today but apparently Verdana had other ideas. [And there's a knowing smirk that comes with that because he at least has spent most of the last weeks (as far as he knows) talking to her.]

So, I don't know when I'm going to be able to get back but... [His free hand comes up to thread through his shaggy crimson curls.] Anyone out there good with a pair of scissors?

As soon as this damn fog clears we need to go hunting... Oberon is bored out of his mind and we both need to stretch our legs. You in?

That...is a disturbing thought, yes. But men always find inventive ways to kill each other. It's a little sad.

[She sounds disgusted, and...for once it's not an act. For all her evils, Lanfear wasn't terribly fond of killing unnecessarily.]

[And Atticus might be surprised. Lyall has no real compunctions against sharing his age. Unlike some, like those prissy vampires.... But he does end on a slightly less sarcastic note, saying before disconnecting:]

I'll see if I can't catch you something, anyway. Good day, Atticus.

[Of course, that's a little bit strange to say, but he's a little confused. Forgive him.]

[Pepper laughs at the sudden addition of dog, a sound as delighted and relaxed as only a Pepper enjoying a period of enforced vacation time can get.]

I see you're not holed up entirely without a friend. What a lovely dog.

[No octave jump here, but she does seem to be peering off the edge of the screen after where Oberon's been shoved before bringing her attention back to druid rather than dog.]

I'd have to ask around to get you one, but if you do want a chicken, I'm sure I could find one. Either that or I recommend one of the smaller dinosaurs -- I'd say that they taste like ostrich rather than chicken, but they have the advantage that nobody's trying to keep them for eggs.

[He stares at that text for a long moment. It was ironic that “it makes the most sense” was in there because really it made no sense. He almost asks what MiM stands for before he places it himself, recalling the story Jack had told him not so long ago.]

The Man in the Moon? So you know Jack Frost? Is that why you’re using text? You don’t think I’d be able to speak to you otherwise? I assure you I can and if you are from the same world as Jack then I have a few things I should tell you anyway.

I have to agree, the red is much more fetching. [He smiled, teasing and trying to ease her worries about the true effectiveness of the cure. He was glad she was feeling better even if it wasn’t permanent it gave her time enough to look into other options.]

Of course… if it’s not a permanent thing… maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea to get a hold of some of this Sephiroth’s cells maybe? Just to have a backup supply… in case something happens, you understand.

[Not that he wanted her to worry about her friend (erm… acquaintance?... person from her world anyway… or… kind of…) being injured, or worse, but preparing for such things were what had kept him alive all these long years. It’s only paranoia when people aren’t hunting you.]

They do. [There’s more pity in his voice than disgust, though there was a small thread of that as well. Hypocritical though it was. He had been part of enough wars in his time. It was just how he was, a warrior at heart and he’d long ago decided that if he could not fight for his fair Ireland he would fight elsewhere in her honor.] Honestly, with how advanced the rest of the tech is around here I’m amazed things aren’t worse.

Lovely? You only say that cause you can't smell his breath. [He grinned, laughing at Oberon's indignant huff.]

We'll manage until it's safe to go out and find something ourselves, no worries. [Oberon might be grumbling and whining like he's starving to death but he's not. Not really, he's just spoiled.]

I'll have to keep that in mind. Though I've gotta say it's not every day I meet a lady that knows what ostrich tastes like.

[He nods understandingly, remembers Akito can't see that and then responds a bit sheepishly.] Right, got it.

So here's the deal. My name is Atticus O'Sullivan. I'm a Druid. I know you've got no idea what that means but you need to make sure you don't get too close to me. Ever. I have cold iron bound to my aura and I don't care to find out how much that will affect you -or Jack. It is enough to kill magical beings where I'm from.

[He sighs and shakes his head a little, his expression slightly pained. Really, he'd prefer not to get into the details of the poor plant's misfortunes.]

I haven't been here too long myself, just a couple months but... [He snorts softly, derisive.] Lets just say the people here have abused their planet beyond all endurance. It's a slow process but she's dying.

[ he is about to respond in text before pausing, hesitating for a moment. he switches the communicator to text, and when he speaks it's soft, feminine, and nervous. ]

Iron is... Um... It affects only fae, doesn't it?

On my Earth, druids were a class of priest in the Celtic European regions during the Iron Age. There is no archaeological evidence that can be directly linked to the druids. Other than the fact that they existed, there is no other available information.

Trust me, I've handled engineers coming off of a 72 hour R&D binge. I can handle smell.

[Her attention shifts for a moment as an indistinct but emphatic sound that's probably 'Hey!' filters in from off camera right on time for someone to have been eavesdropping on her half of the conversation. Amused dimples have blossomed as she turns back.]

Do you only encounter ostrich-eating ladies every second Tuesday, then?

Oh, I could tell that just from the sky. There are rips in the Pattern here. It's a miracle that it's holding together here at all.

Well you know a hell of a lot more about it than Jack, that's a relief. [And it's apparent from his tone of voice that it really is.]

Not necessarily only fae. It's magical beings and I know you're saying it's the man in the moon that made you and all but you're still some kind of resurrected spirit so I'd rather not touch you just to find out if you're going to turn to ashes.

As far as Druids go... yeah I guess back in the old days they really didn't write shit down. Oral traditions and blah blah blah. [He's cursing a bit more than usual but that's mostly because he immediately needs to dissuade this little air spirit of this notion of the iron age and old Druids. Old? Nope. Not him. Really.]

Unless I mistake your accent I don't really meet too many east-coasters that eat ostrich. That's more of a... uh... well an African thing, really. Don't exactly see a lot of ostriches in the US.

Jack is busy with his work at home, but I had a lot of time to study and try to figure out what I was.

[ he frowns to himself, though he keeps his tone consistent. ] So is it only direct touch that would hurt then? And... You don't have to pretend to be something else.

Ah... Um, that is... You don't have to act differently. Changing your speech patterns..? U-Unless that's normal for you! I don't really know... But, um, if you're from the Iron Age, or if you're from the modern age, it doesn't really matter? To me, at least... If that's what you are thinking about! Because I don't have a big interest in the Druids anyway...

[Pepper's accent is definitely East Coast professional class, but there are a few notes here and there that say she wasn't always born to it. Just where is indistinct, although still American.]

There was a fad for ostrich ranches back in the late 1990s and early 2000s, if you're from the right time and place to remember them. I think I must've munched my way through about twenty venture capital raising presentations.

[There's a long moment of silence. Most people don't pick up on the shifts in speech patterns when he makes them and no one actually calls him out on them unless they know exactly what he's doing, usually friends. Or the closest thing to friends he has these days.

He tries to shrug it off though, tries not to draw any more attention to it.]

Hey just because they started back then doesn't mean they ended then. [See? Casual and dismissive and he still knows a good deal more than he should about these things but he's not going to flat out tell this guy, spirit or not, when he was born.]

There were still Druids around and being trained in the 11th century. [Which isn't exactly a lie. He was around and training Cibran then. The fact that the boy never became a full Druid and that all the others had died some 300 years prior was completely irrelevant.]

[It's something that sounds vaguely familiar. That was the time he'd been moving into Arizona, after all. And the Southwest was as close to their natural habitat as America got.]
