[Video] Week 37 - Tuesday Evening

[Hi there people of Verdana. There is a man with a dog, both trying to look especially harmless. In fact the dog's main purpose on the screen is to reassure everyone that Atticus really is nothing to worry about.]

Well this has been barrels of fun, huh? [He can't hide the slightly sheepish look, he's trying really hard to though. Publicly taking the blame for the whole... altered time reality thing isn't something he's really looking to do but he's gotta know how much of this is him and how much is... anyone else.

Someone had to screw up something along the way right? It wasn't just him.]

Just out of curiosity did... anyone [And there's just enough emphasis on it that someone remarkably perceptive might catch the quiet anyone else that is faintly implied by his tone.] do anything in particular that might have caused any of... well... time shenanigans? Not the traveling bit but the arriving part of the deal.

Hey, I know you're probably busy with all the changes but can Oberon hang out with you for a couple days? I guess the lakes are still intact but I've gotta see it for myself.

((OOC: Fari warning! Genesis might be threadjacking periodically as she is staying with Atticus now and likely hovering nearby laughing at him.))

Weird. I will remember that.

[Not that he knows what an urban dictionary is, either, but he'll let that slide, since apparently they don't have those here, either. He'll just be happy to trust Atticus that it's what the word really means.]

But yes, there were seriously tentacle monsters. I fought with them on two occasions, there, though I only succeeded once.

[He would have succeeded the second time, too, if it hadn't been for Elissa. Ah, well. The godling just cocks his head innocently at Atticus, and asks,]

Is there significance to this?

A few of us attempted to sabotage the Domes. That attempt failed, but I suspect it still may have altered things a bit. Add that to everyone else, in multiple timelines...

Well...

[She sighed and made a slight face.]

It really was for the good of the Planet. We... made sure the Domes had a hard time being built. Guess it worked.

[She looked to Atticus for approval.]

Puca?

[Startled and incredulous. He cocks his head to the side, looking magnificently confused.]

They don't have anything to do with time and they certainly aren't extinct- or even in danger.

[A pause, a sigh, and he scrubbed a hand over his face.]

Okay at least the Puca in my world. They're mischievous shape-shifting spirits that like to scare the crap out of people and give advice in riddles.

[Atticus is immediately heading for the door, slinging Moralltach over his shoulder without hesitation.]

I can do more than see through glamours. It's hard to explain but there's certain signs in a person's aura if they use magic or if they're controlled by it I can see the bindings holding them to the caster. And if there's something else squatting inside her I'll be able to see that too. And then I'll kill it.

[If you're coming Genesis, keep up. Druid is on a mission and he has no time to waste chatting about the specifics of his magic.]

Not Puca, Pooka.

[There's a very subtle difference in the pronunciation.]

It's spelled differently.

Pooka were also shapeshifters, and warriors as well as rather clever engineers and gardeners. They were the ones charged with protecting the light from the beginning of the universe and keeping it alive. They look a great deal like oversized rabbits crossed with a kanagroo.

[He laughs a little, shrugging it off.]

Well then guilty as charged. I just don't see how it's a bad thing. I mean... this is a lot better than how things were before.

[Thor was defeated by tentacle monsters... holy. shit.

Nope, sorry Thor, he's in too good a mood and this is just too damned funny. He can't stop himself from laughing but at least he keeps it to a minimum. One hand gets pressed over his mouth and the other waves it off, trying to excuse himself before he can trust himself to talk again.]

No, not really, sorry... there's... cultural significance to tentacle monsters I guess you could say but... it's... never mind, it's ridiculous.

[He at least looked a little sheepish as he nodded.]

Well... rather I worked with the elemental and we made sure the dome would go up... and come down relatively quickly.

[Part of him really wants to tell her that he was responsible for this, that looking at things in the long term, things that would endure beyond their brief stay in the past was what had brought them here... but he doesn't really know enough about her to trust her with the knowledge that he is powerful enough to have pulled it off so he bites his tongue and flashes her a smile.]

Hey well at least something worked, somewhere along the way? And things are kind of better here now?

[Or at least he hopes she thinks so.]

[He smiles at Akito, shaking his head in amusement at the kid's defensiveness.]

It's a simple binding that affects me and nothing else, I promise. Come on, I have a binding contract with the planet not to harm any life upon it. [And he taps his tattooed right hand as evidence of that. Akito he's not going to hurt her, he just wants to look at her cellular makeup, calm down.]

[ He hesitates, shaking his head. He doesn't understand bindings enough to be comfortable with letting Aura be examined. ]

I... No. That is... I don't understand bindings, and even if you say that... I have... She is all I have, so... Eventually, maybe.

Bindings are Druidic magic and-

[He sighs, and gives Akito a sad kind of smile.]

No, you're right. I'd not let anyone near Oberon with magic I don't know or understand. [He reaches out a hand to scratch at his hound's ear and somehow he looks sad. Not because Akito won't let him, but because he's had it in his head that these spirits are little more than the children they protect and here is the first proof that they are more than that. They are burdened by the same troubles that longevity has given him.

He offers the other a small, sad smile.]

Be careful, Akito. [Paranoia is a painful, lonely path to walk. And with that, somewhat cryptic, bit of advice he cuts the feed. Suddenly in no mood to talk.]

And I can't understand that.

[She presses her lips together and looks away, as though searching for an answer offscreen.]

Oberon can stay with me for a few days. He won't mind visiting the library, will he?

[And now Christine waits, folding her hands in her lap and bouncing her legs: the very picture of nervousness. She takes a deep breath and moves her hands to grip the bottom edge of her chair instead in a white-knuckled hold. What happens if he doesn't believe her once he sees her? Does he have some kind of power she doesn't know about? She took Starfleet's basic combat courses, but she wasn't especially good at them, and if he has laser eyes or something, it won't even matter.

Okay, now she's just freaking herself out. Her arms hug her middle, hands sliding up and down like she's warming herself. Hopefully everything turns out all right, with all her limbs still attached.]

[Briar's eyes go wide]

[he doesn't say anything more for a moment, just staring wildly and trying to take this in. He broke the dome. He broke the dome.]

Okay. I...I have to confess, I'm impressed. But please tell me that you did not cause all of that land to become diseased too.

[Genesis quickly shook her head.]

No, no, that wasn't us. I think that was something that was suppose to happen anyway and the Domes would have protected those inside? Really, the Domes were the only things that were tampered with, nothing more.

[She's keeping up! Quite easily, in fact. She listens as Atticus speaks.]

...You know, one day, I need to find a way to your Planet. It sounds delightful.

[No, really, it sounds awesome. Not that Gaia is bad but they didn't have what Earth has.]

Then why do you look like you're in trouble?

[Thor takes a minute to figure out just why Atticus is laughing-- it's really not that funny, Atticus, at least not from his perspective-- and then he gives him a rather less amused look of his own. He doesn't really like being laughed at by strangers. It wasn't as if he didn't fight bravely when he had the chance, or wouldn't have done a better job of it had the monster not vanished.]

I am obviously not understanding something. Regardless, it disappeared before I could give it a proper battle. It was very disappointing!

[Chew on that one, there, Atticus. Mun is not sorry.]

[He's catching that 'anyone' bit and sort of tilting his head with a grin]

I don't think an invisible winter spirit like me could anything. But you, on the other hand...

Depends on when you landed, I suppose. Lots of us landed when Verdana was in its heydey, so I don't think we did much to change anything, though Akito brought home a cool lookin' cat.

[Atticus is good with languages, he catches that subtle diference but he's only ever heard of one kind of puca... pooka... phouca... whatever. Same creature, different cultures, always a pain in the ass.]

Bunny-Roos that protect "the light". [Someday he'd find someone from a normal world.] Right... that's a new one.

But hey people are from all kinds of different places so... if I'm believing in other planets and gods know what else I suppose Pooka aren't that odd.

[Atticus shot her a warning look as they made their way out into the city proper. Now was not the time for idle chatter, not at all. It didn't take too terribly long to got to the Flop and Atticus wasted no time heading inside to find Christine. He even held his hands up to show that he had no weapon in his hands but he hesitated at the doorway to the room, eyeing her suspiciously.]

Would you be willing to step outside with us?

[If he was going to get into it with something powerful enough to take over the bodies of the dead he wanted room to move, fewer civilians in the way, and access to Verdana's power.]

There are others who might not agree if they knew. I know for a fact Belle's still pissed at me.

[Brighid give him strength. It took every ounce of willpower he had to keep from falling over laughing right then and there.]

I'm sorry... that sounds mo-pff- [No, no he can't do it. He shakes his head hard, hand coming up to slap over his mouth. Speaking is beyond him, this is too funny and Thor looking so damned grumpy only made it worse. Well, of course he's grumpy if he had tentacles-

And then he's smashing the button on his phone to end the feed so he can roll off the couch in a fit of hysterics. So sorry Thor.]
