[As he speaks he holds up what looks like a clunky digital watch from the late nineties with too many buttons that don't do anything. It is slightly smashed.]

So this is probably kind of dumb, since I barely use it anymore, but my image inducer broke... back in one of the other timelines. Not important. It's a pretty weird piece of technology und I totally have no idea how it works, but I know there are techy people here. Sometimes from the future in space. I know back home the professor can usually fix it, but once in a while he sent it back to... whoever made it for him? I don't get all the secrets. I just get a hologram that can sometimes keep me from looking like Satan started a line of plushies.

[Well, that's... really scary.] Right, ja, so... [It's probably not worth it to point out context or the fact that he looks like most people's idea of a demon.] They're not likely to stop being that if you turn around und terrorize them, you know?

Pretty sure fear is the opposite of protection. [Nobody caved his skull in because they were feeling particularly brave and sure of their place in the world.]

[Wanda shakes her head.] It can hold people off, a little. But -- you're right, it doesn't always work. And when it doesn't things just become worse.

The only ultimate answers are education or extermination.

Ja, that second one's not actually an option. [He is increasingly not in the mood for this conversation. Why was he thinking of this Wanda as less crazy, again?]

[Wanda feels bad about upsetting Kurt, but... if it was the only way, and she had the power, she'd do it.] Not now, no.

[Not good enough.] Angry mobs aside? Every person who's really made my life suck has been a verdammt mutant. There's nothing about a gene that makes people awful.

No. I think you're right about the genes. Being here has proven that to me. [Almost, anyway.]

But it doesn't change the reality of war.

It may be that I'm German, but I have this funny thing where my main goal is for there to not be a war at all.

Of course that would be better. But you can't avoid war at all costs. If you do, your enemy will just keep forcing you into worse and worse positions until you die out.

Pretty sure that's what they say about us, too. [Damn it, how did he end up defending the people who cracked his skull open?]
