outer_divide | Network - VIDEO - closed to Thor (Elissa's learning!)

[A somewhat damp and dripping Thor responds to the message after about an hour. He's apparently been out and about in the storm. The expression on his face is sober, but not unfriendly.]

My lady. I imagine this could be arranged. I am in the Old City, at the moment, with a delivery, but I should be back in Poseidon within the hour, if you would like to arrange a meeting.

[Elissa's reply is quicker, but not immediate. She bears the same expression as she did in her last message.]

I would - at the place and time of your choosing. I do not wish for you to think that you might be in danger from me again, so I leave the choice up to you.

Thank you so very much for your graciousness in this matter.

[He smiles a bit.]

With a lack of giant tentacled monsters to push me at, my lady, there is likely very little you can do to make me feel in danger. I am not concerned that you might harm me, I assure you.

I will fly over Poseidon and meet you at the docks in an hour's time. Is that well with you?

[Public, for her sake. Easy to find, for his. He still doesn't have street names down for most of the city.]

Yes, that is well with me. I will be there.

[A bit of a smile touches Elissa's face.]

I am sure that it shall not be too difficult to find *you* in a crowd.

[He smiles a bit more, back, at the expression on her own face.]

The armor does tend to stand out a bit. And the flying. I will see you soon.

[And with that, he disconnects again, to finish his delivery. True to his word, though, he shows up circling over the docks in Poseidon less than an hour later, skimming the people below for Elissa. There aren't that many who aren't hard at work that they can't avoid doing, not in this rain, so he doesn't take him long.]

[Elissa waited beneath the dripping awning of a merchant stall, conversing with the owner about the weather. She had met Ruth earlier in the week when shopping with Koz, made her acquaintance, learned of her five children during the course of working up to haggling with her, and saw that those children could often draw the shopkeeper's attention to the back just long enough for some enterprising young thieves to make away with the produce sold there.

So, as she had to wait for Thor and it was raining, Elissa decided to stand here to discourage away the sneak thieves while Ruth handled a fussy toddler. She leaned against the wall at the awning's edge, the colorful, over-saturated tarp dripping upon her, but not as much as if she were out in the rain.]

[Another discouragement for young thieves: having a large blonde godling land with a splash in the middle of the sidewalk right in front of that awning. A large blonde godling in partial armor and bearing a rather heavy-looking hammer, one that makes a resounding thud-- louder than the one Thor had made, himself-- when he dropped it to the concrete and straightened up from his landing crouch.

He brushed his dripping hair back from his face and offered a slightly lop-sided smile from beneath the hand keeping the rain from his face.]

Greetings.

[What was it about Thor that made it hard to remain downhearted around him? At that lop-sided smile, some of the tension drained from Elissa's shoulders and she offered up a rather shy smile of her own.]

[Was that a bit of a break in her voice? She swallowed past a lump in her throat before her voice threatened to crack again.]

I am so happy to see you looking hale and hearty.

[Probably the puppy-like enthusiasm and boyish energy. Yup. Well, and the fact that he's obviously not dead or even injured probably helps, in this case.]

I am rather difficult to damage, lady Elissa. I daresay that even that beast would not have been the end of me, if it had dared remain to be fought.

[He still doesn't know why she did it, though, and is really pretty confused on the whole matter-- and he's planning on asking, while he's here. First, though:]

What of yourself? Are you well?

As well as can be expected in my current circumstances. I fear my newly arrived state and then my actions in that other place have forever stained whatever reputation I might try to build here.

When one is unknown to others, tis difficult for them to tell when one is not behaving in a normal manner.

[She steps closer to the edge of the awning, a few drops plipping atop her leather hood.]

Perhaps so. You may have to find some way to win trust back, now that it has been lost.

[And since she broached the subject, here's him asking about it. And he does it carefully, trying not to imply that he thinks he should be dead. He did, after all, put up a terrific fight for as long as he had the opportunity to.]

What came to pass to lead you to such a thing? To setting me at that monster with so little means to defend myself properly?

Do you know Chime? The dragon-man? He was also affected. He explained to me that we were under some sort of control by something or someone else. I believe that, after hearing it, and knowing what I felt.

You must understand that... that what makes me a Grey Warden also gives me tremendous appetites. My first wrong thought was that to kill others would mean more rations for the rest of us... But when I spoke to Inara, she had seen a food thief and she wanted to poison the rations to make the thief ill. That is when I decided that it would be best to poison Inara and the foodstuffs.

Why would I do such a thing in my right mind when rationing food already had my belly gnawing at me? Twas when I faced you that I realized something was horribly wrong.

Never.. *Never* would I have set you upon a possible path of death had I been myself. Do you not remember my struggle? I kept seeing my former king as he lay dead because you are so very like him in some ways.

[Elissa's voice breaks.]

Twas that resemblance to Cailan that made me try to help you, but it was too late.

Nay. There is no logic in it.

[Thor listens while she speaks, expression sympathetic. While he isn't particularly familiar with mental compulsion or mind control, per se, he knows magic can do all kinds of terrible things. Wonderful things, for sure, but also terrible things. And with her so broken up, and him perfectly all right... well.

He splashes across the last couple puddles to reach her, and puts a hand on her shoulder.]

There was no "too late". I am well. I suffered no injury from that monster, and I hold you no ill will. And if someone was meddling with you, then it is not your doing.

[Elissa releases a sigh of relief and is hard-pressed not to hug the stuffing out of him for being so understanding.]

Thank the Maker. And thank you. Others have been... less understanding. I am in your debt, Thor. Whatever I must do to make things right between us, then I shall do it. I promise that to you. If e'er you see me behaving in such a way to you again, please know that it is not truly *me* - I would never do that to you. Not truly.

[It probably helps that he considers himself pretty much indestructable and loves a good fight, so even if he had good reason not to trust her, he probably wouldn't really be worried, anyway. Thor, after all, comes from a position full of Asgardian privilege.

But he's not mad, which is probably enough for her at this point, either way. He gives the shoulder he'd touched an encouraging pat.]

I believe you. Give the others time. If you are steadfast and trustworthy for long enough, surely no grudges will be held.

[He's also an optimist in just about every way, too. Sorry about that, Elissa.]

Where are you staying? Do you, too, have a home you did not recall having?

I do not know. I spent but one night in the Flop in the Old City before we were taken again to another place. For now, I will be living in the forest with a man named Kozmotis. He has appointed himself my guard to satisfy the metal man named Tony and the girl Haruka. Shepard seems merely cautious - and that I can understand. It seems those three are my judges.

[Elissa spreads her hands in an expressive shrug.] I understand why they do not return my weapons, but by doing so they also deny me the ability to fend for myself. I must rely upon Kozmotis for everything - even hunting. Tis vexing.

[Her frustration is obvious, though she knows why she is mistrusted. The girl's optimism has flown off with one of Akito's winds, leaving her feeling bitter and guilty.]

Ah. Then no wonder you have no home of your own, or much trust built up here.

[Tilting his head in thought for a beat, Thor offers,]

I could probably help you find a worthy occupation within the city that does not require weapons, if you would like something of your own. Work at a shop, or teaching a skill, or handling shipments. That is what I do. I make deliveries, as I can fly faster than most of the machines here.

[And he sounds inordinately proud of that, like it's a boy's first job. And, technically, it is. He's never worked a day in his life. It'll get dull before too long, but for now? He's proud of it.]

[Son of a king meet daughter of a Teryn. Elissa hasn't done much in the way of actual work, either - unless leading a band of adventurers or aiding the people of the Terynir of Highever counts. She looks embarrassed for a moment - and not at the idea of working.]

Do you think those who hold me accountable for my murderous actions would allow that? I am not certain they would want me to be away from my guard for that long. Even now, he is not too far away, but he is allowing us privacy. Thankfully, he has become more friend than jailor.

Oh?

[Thor pauses to look around for this "friendly jailor", curious and a little wary.]

I do not see why not. You have been here several days with no vicious behavior. Certainly in a few more, you can at least look for some kind of employment. It is better that, than to sit and be angry and frustrated with no release.

[Because hey, he knows how that is, too.]

[Elissa lowers her voice to a whisper as she takes a step closer to Thor.]

Kozmotis. He is my watch guard. He volunteered for the duty because he did not like the way that Haruka and Tony spoke to me.

[She lifts her voice again, expression wearied.]

Frustration seems to be a daily thing in Verdana. In more than one way. I am very glad that you are being so kind about all of this, I truly am. In a way, aside from my apparently murderous tendencies, I find you and I have a kinship of sorts. I have a feeling we come from similar backgrounds.

Oh?

[Thor can't help but be curious, there, and he cocks his head at her. And because he isn't that great with coming up with similarities on the fly, he goes with:]

You are warrior daughter of an Asgardian king? Or, I suppose a king of any sort. There is only one Asgardian king, after all, and I believe I would know if I had a sister.

I am the daughter of the Teryn of Highever in Ferelden - a title second only to the king. In fact, my father was almost chosen to be king at the Landsmeet after the death of King Maric since the king's own son was still young.

My family also has the blood of King Calenhad the Great who united the Claynes tribes into a single nation and was the first king of Ferelden, so we also carry the Theirin bloodline the same as Maric's descendants.

It appears we do have something in common, then!

[And no wonder she didn't think to get a job. She, too, has apparently never had one! Thor smiles, sympathetic but also a bit amused.]

What a strange thing, to meet another of royal blood in such a place as this. You must feel quite out of place, indeed.

[That causes Elissa to warmly laugh and her face eases into a wry smile.]

I have felt rather out of place for longer than I have been in Verdana.

[She says it like it is a country rather than a planet. IN Verdana rather than ON it.]

Thor of Asgard, would it be terribly inappropriate for you to be hugged by someone who attempted to murder you?

[Thor blinks at her, then answers with a bright smile.]

Of course not, Lady Elissa! I am quite fond of hugs, and as I do not believe you are trying to murder me now, I have no qualms with your offering.

[And he even helpfully opens his arms so she can come do it, too.]

[Something akin to relief chases over Elissa's features before she steps up to wrap her arms about Thor's torso in a tight, needy hug. Despite everything, here is likely the one person who is not going to hold a grudge and she is so relieved by it that it almost brings tears to her eyes. This man, unlike the womanizing Cailan, is truly good-hearted and worthy of respect.]

You have won an ally for life with your forgiving heart, Your Highness. I shall not forget.

[There is nothing untoward at all about her embrace. It is simply a hug full of affection and she is grateful to find someone else who isn't afraid of such displays.]

[She should be glad she didn't meet him a year ago, before his exile to Earth. He was a lot more immature, back then. He settles his arms around her, back, as warm and comforting as he can manage. While he has a lady of his own, he still is quite fond of hugs, particularly when they make someone feel better.]

There, now. It is a small thing, Lady Elissa. Though I am glad to give you relief in the matter.

[Elissa gives him one last squeeze and eases back from Thor to look up at him with a smile. He may be one of the best looking men she has ever seen, but something about his forgiving attitude toward her and that hug really reminds her of her brother Fergus and that reminder prompts a similar fondness for Thor.]

I have taken up enough of your time, but I am so very glad that we had this talk. Thank you for coming and for being so understanding.

[Patting her shoulder lightly-- well, mostly lightly; he has a heavy hand, rather accidentally-- Thor smiles down at her.]

It is my pleasure! Take care, all right? Perhaps we can visit again another day.

[She steps back from him, certain he will leave in the same manner that he arrived - and quite aware that she doesn't want to be near Mjolnir when he begins to swing it.]

I would like that very much. Be well, my friend!

[Thor steps back, as well, back out into the rain, and he sweeps a courtly bow for her before scooping up his hammer.]

Farewell, Lady Elissa!

[And then he's off, with Mjolnir swinging into a rapid circle and carrying him up into the sky. There's a good splash when he takes off, too.]
