[video] Sunday: Week 38

[Bruce is sitting at a small kitchen table in his house, which is much nicer than his last one. It's small and simply decorated, thankfully, but living somewhere with things like heat, electricity and running water is a little weird. Of course, he was used to going without some, or even all of those things even before Verdana.

There's a pile of papers in front of him: messy notes on information he's gathered from various people and library books. He's wearing his glasses and a professor-like outfit, and is also enjoying a cup of tea.]

For those who know me and haven't seen me yet...well. I'm awake, obviously. I've already been filled in on what happened, but I'd like to know who's still here and how things have changed for you.

I've found my house in this timeline, but I'm not sure if finding out where I worked before would even be worthwhile, considering my absence. I would, however, like to help out on the ship and in the hospital again, if possible.

For those of you who don't know me, I'm Dr. Bruce Banner. I've been in a pod for the past two and a half months, but I was here prior to that. My skill set includes nuclear physics, biochemistry, medicine, engineering, and various languages. If you need help in any of those areas, feel free to contact me.

[What a coincidence. Christine woke up from her pod around two and a half months ago.]

Hello, Doctor. My name's Christine Chapel and I'm a nurse at the hospital here in Poseidon.

[Have a small smile, Christine.] It's a pleasure to meet you. Is there someone you could get me in touch with there about a position? I used to work for Dr. McCoy, but I don't know if he's still around.

((ooc: PG said official hiring done by the NPC hospital director can just be handwaved, but Christine could facilitate that!))

Sure, I know the person in charge. I'll ask them to get in contact with you.

[Her expression turns fond, and she nods.]

He is. And he was actually my boss back home too, to give you some idea of my medical training.

Thanks, I appreciate it.

[He laughs a little at the last part.] It certainly does...he must be glad to have you here. And I'm sure I could learn plenty from both of you.

He'd better be.

[She kids, she kids.]

I'm happy to teach anyone who's dedicated to learning more.

Most of my medical knowledge admittedly comes from field experience and personal research; I worked as a physician in India for awhile, though not in an official capacity. Or even at a hospital, for that matter. [That didn't mesh with his need to keep a low profile.]

It sounds like you enjoy being right in the thick of things. I'm sure I can fill in any gaps you might have.

I do, yes...I enjoy being as useful as possible wherever it's needed most. And I'm sure you can do a lot more than fill in gaps, considering when you're from.

Here's hoping! Did you learn much from Dr. McCoy during your time here before?

As much as I could. I enjoyed working with him when I wasn't busy with other things. [he pauses for a moment] He also helped take care of me while I was sick, so I suppose I've been a patient of his as well.

Then you must have received the best care possible, even if his bedside manner leaves something to be desired.

I actually found it more comforting than anything else would have been, but I can see how most wouldn't enjoy it. He did as much as he could for me, though. [It wasn't enough, but he's not saying that.]

I'll keep that in mind in case you're ever under my care in the future.

[She writes an imaginary note to herself.]

Greetings, Doctor. My name is Elissa.

Do you know anything about brains?

Hello, Elissa. We spoke about plants, didn't we? I'd still like to take a look at those.

[he pauses at the question] You're going to have to be a little more specific. I know some things about brains, but there's a lot to know. Particularly where people from different worlds are concerned.

Yes, I thought your voice was familiar. Someone has suggested to me that I make my way to Poseidon's infirmary to have my brain ... what was the word? Pardon, twas unfamiliar to me, but I think she use the term 'scanned'.

[She struggles to confess her deeds to this man who seems so kind.]

My friend fears I may still be under some sort of mental control.

[Bruce frowns] I'm not sure a scan is what you need. If you're under mental control, you'll need a psychic's help...unfortunately, I don't know if there are any around anymore. You could ask the general population via network, though.

Twas Haruka who suggested it. Perhaps she believes there is something wrong with my very brain. I do not know. I just want to be able to placate her fears that I shall somehow lose control and begin murdering people.

Unfortunately I'm really not sure how to help you there, but addressing the network about the matter might turn up some better results. And if you want to drop by sometime to discuss the plants, you can find my house here. [have an attached map to a little house at the tip of the peninsula, which is otherwise fairly uninhabited]

Thank you for your information, ser. I am already trying to obtain an amulet to shield my mind from such things, so perhaps that shall be enough.

Dr. Banner, it's good to see you returned. And still interested in repairing the ship.

I'm glad to see you too, Nem, and more than happy to do what I can. Do you know anything about the temporal anomalies everyone experienced?

I know only that everyone who has wakened on the ship disappeared for twelve days, and now recall a very different world. If it wasn't so widespread, I would suspect a particularly tasteless joke.

The world they recall is what I remember before waking up, so I can vouch for them if that means anything.

That is all the more troubling, I'm afraid.

Has anything like this happened before, to your knowledge?

I've never heard of anything like it, but the implications speak for themselves.

Study of convergent evolution across multiple realities.

I'm interested already. How do you intend to go about it?

Recovering genetic sequencing equipment. Examine genomic data.

Do you know where to find said genetic sequencing equipment?

Acquired during plague. Appears to have still occurred.

Is it connected to the ship? Apparently the temporal shifts only happened outside of it, based on what I've heard.

At hospital. Relocated with rest of settlement.

Well that's convenient, particularly if I'm working at the hospital again. I'd definitely like to take a look sometime.
