[Life has been fairly amenable to the Chosen, particularly since her return. Her alter-ego in the other timeline had done exactly as she'd have done: tricked some poor merchant into her service. So, set up with all the proper comforts she could find in this world, she's turned her brilliant and wicked mind to the acquisition of power and control. A bargain with Elissa Cousland had given her just the information she'd needed. A hook, as it where. So, with that air of false modesty she's put on before, she addresses the ships network.]

For those of you who have not met me yet, I am called Selene. For those that have, greetings to you.

I am a scholar of some note where I come from, and it has come to my attention that some of you have had trouble with mental domination through dark powers. Other people have influenced your minds and used you to weaken our collective standings. Moreover, I'm given to understand that there were murders due to this outside influence.

At the request of one victim of said sorcery, I have begun to craft ter'angreal, small objects of power, to shield the mind. A fairly common thing in my home, that. I'm willing to provide them to anyone who feels such protection is necessary. After all, we do not want a repeat of the last set of incidents. I'm told they were...unfortunate.

Oh, is that how humans manage sorcery? I hadn't heard before.

[He sounds sincerely interested. This was, after all, his idea to a degree. But there's a little note of disdain. He still doesn't like groundling magics.]

No. This is how people who lack the...gift...use the magic of others.

Oh, I suppose that's convenient. How long does it last before it needs to be retouched by someone who does use magic? Does it need to be the original caster? How's the range?

[At home, magical objects needed a mentor's touch to activate or invigorate. He didn't mean anything by the wheedling questions, just wanted clarification.]

Indefinitely. And without the need for charging. It's such a simple thing, really. A child with the spark could manage such a thing with the proper training.

How common is that, come to think?

[He knows the rate for mentor births, but how often the other races produce sorcerers is beyond him. And as much as he doesn't really like that sort of magic, it might be important to know.]

Oh, it's quite common. Thousands have the spark trained. Millions choose not to.

[Airy, dismissive, and cold, she looks at the camera.]

Now, it's my turn for a question. Who and what are you?

[She's not very pleasant, but he'd never be surprised by arch imperiousness from an unfamiliar female of high standing. He'd try to be more polite, but he can never figure out human etiquette anyway, and this is important.]

Chime. I'm a warrior caste aeriat raksura of the Indigo Cloud Court of the Reaches, under Reigning Queen Pearl, Sister Queen Jade, Consorts Ember and Moon, and Line Grandfather Stone.

[So he can be arch and imperious, too. He's not pushing it too far, by his estimation; he hasn't started reciting anyone's lineage.]

Any idea what kind of dark powers? [Wanda's not worried for herself. Her powers are very good at cancelling other people's. But the implication of general danger worries her.]

I do not know. My information was limited, though Lady Elissa Cousland may have more of an idea.

[Wanda nods.] I'll speak to her. It's good that you're helping protect the populace.

My powers protect me, but I can't make anything like that. I might be able to break the hold of whatever that something is if necessary, though.

[She can break most things! Powers, buildings, bones and so forth.]

Someone I am actually fond of was led to his death by this influence. I would rather not see that happen again.

But if your powers are capable of protecting you without the ability to create, may I ask what their nature is?

My powers are disruptive. I can manipulate chaos and probability to interfere in the workings of just about anything

Interesting. And that shields you how? Disrupting the magics being worked on you?

[Sounds familiar to her...not entirely dissimilar from simply being ta'veren.]

Well that's awfully generous of you.

[You just leaped to the top of his "most suspicious" list, Selene. A magic user, a witch, that's just conveniently offering to make charms that screw with people's heads? Yeah no, he's seen what those kinds of charms can do. Laksha is one terrifying woman.]

Someone I am fond of was hurt as a result of these mental powers, during our trials in that other timeline. And I myself was fortunate enough to avoid being poisoned.

[She liked Thor, actually. He was an oaf, but he was a friendly oaf. And she remembers you...grumpy]

I would see it less as generosity and more as prudence.

[Voice]

[Just because he's not tripping over himself to thank her for her for offering to screw with people's heads doesn't mean he's grumpy]

Prudent, right... so how is it that scholars can make something as powerful as all that where you're from? Or when you say scholar do you mean something else? [Something that might be more unfavorable.]

[Voice]

A scholar in my world is someone able to channel the One Power, the energy that spins the Wheel of Time itself. The Wheel gave me that power, and I've sworn oaths to act for the good of the people.

And yes, I do mean something else when I say scholar. [Lanfear sneers, unable to hide her irritation] Though I doubt the term Aes Sedai means anything to you.

Yeah, see, most places "scholar" means someone that is well educated, usually in a particular field. So... you say scholar but you mean magic user, whatever kind of magic it is you're using is irrelevant. I just think, maybe, people have a right to know that your offer of ensuring their heads aren't messed with by magic... means that you get to do some messing of your own.

[And like hell a witch isn't going to be able to track her own charms and enchantments and probably screw with it and the people attached to it to achieve their own ends.]

Have I at any point hidden my nature? Have I at any point, in any conversation indicated that I am doing anything harmful? What goal could I possibly have in interfering with people who have been quite kind to me, are a source of protection for myself and the inhabitants of this settlement, and could possibly help me find a way home?

Selene, that is very kind of you to do! Have you already spoken with Lady Elissa, then?

[Since that's the one he knows the most about, in the harmed by mental coercion department. He doesn't consider himself much of a victim, since nothing really untoward happened to him, anyway.]

I have, and I have already crafted her a ter'angreal. The Lady Cousland was the one who informed me there was a problem.

[Thor...you are an oaf, but she can't help but be fond of you. Even if she means to use you. Lanfear actually smiles. And it's almost genuine.]

So I thought...'better to not have our water poisoned if I can.' And thus, this.

Is there a cost to this aid? Do you require payment for supplies or effort spent?

[He may get one for Loki. Because that is a good idea, isn't it?]

That is very kind of you, as well! It would be for my brother, most likely, however.

[He gives her a slightly lop-sided grin and raps on the top of his head, making fun of his rather more simple reputation.]

Mine is probably too thick for anyone to bother with.

Oh, yes, Loki. I can do that, certainly. I'll need to meet with him, though. To make these protections I have to have some idea what I'm working the shield around. It's called Delving, a sort of...scan of the body.

[She keeps her smile more neutral, certainly not nearly as lopsided as that.]

And I highly doubt it too, but one can never be too careful.
